Summer vacation gem!

  • 5 of 5

First, Lisa was a delight to work with. She was always quick to respond to questions, communicated all important details, and took the stress out of organizing our trip. The house was even more impressive than the pictures. It was spotless and had everything you would want for a family or friends gathering. The beds were comfortable and the property quiet and beautifully landscaped. We highly recommend this home for your next trip to the Gambier or Mt. Vernon area!

Think twice before renting!

  • 1 of 5

For the past 6 years my girlfriends and I plan a weekend in the winter to getaway, play games, drink wine, watch movies, and relax. Being hardworking professionals, mothers, and business owners we look forward to a weekend of seclusion. We had a great weekend at Lisa's cabin until we were blindsided by apparent "damage" we caused to the hot tub cover. She claimed we left two slices out of the top of the cover which is physically impossible the way we removed and reinstalled it. She said it was likely one of our wedding rings that caused the damage although after speaking to an associate who sold the spa to her this was not the case. Lisa held us responsible for completely replacing the hot tub cover and filter (1 month old) in the hot tub (total of $530). Although we left the house spotless, she criticized me for the chemical imbalance in the hot tub, small drops of wine on the concrete outside, a spot of mud on the cover, etc. Needless to say our wonderful weekend was quickly ruined. I rent from VRBO at least 8 times a year and have never had an issue. My advice is not to rent from her and if you do, be sure to take pictures upon your departure or have her walk through the house with you.

Owner's Response: In December 2016, we put a hot tub into service at our cabin. We placed it on a cement patio conveniently attached to our side deck. Total investment around $13,000. At the time of purchase, it was recommended that we purchase the bracket that holds the lid during use. This insures that the lid be handled appropriately in an effort to avoid damage. A lid for a hot tub is $495 plus tax. During your stay you completely removed the cover, irresponsibly laid it in mud and at some point damaged it. I sent pics to our spa representative and she determined that it was not repairable. On January 27th you and your friends arrived three hours early and the house was made available to you. On Sunday, January 29th, I arrived to do our routine cleanup and check the house. I would say that when I entered the cabin you performed the duties on the check out list and I found it acceptable. When I walked out to the patio, I noticed wine stains on our new concrete, many wine stains. Most contractors would confirm that wine is almost impossible to remove from a newly poured pad. Also, the perimeter of the hot tub lid was full of mud. The top of the lid was muddy as well. When I opened the lid, the water was green. There were wine stains on the fiberglass of the tub and drips down the side and onto the concrete. There were beer bottle caps in the bottom of the tub, bottle caps thrown into the yard area. Beer bottles thrown in the yard and towels frozen to the patio itself. On that day I was outside in the snow on my hands and knees scrubbing wine out of the concrete. I sent you pictures and emailed you the next day. I provided you with the name of our spa representative and you contacted her. You volunteered to pay for the damage. In closing, I informed you of the following. We will absorb any costs associated with acid staining the concrete in the Spring, if the spills are still visible. I provided you with the lid information and you have made arrangements to pay All Seasons Spas directly. We spent three hours cleaning up your disgusting mess. The filters were changed at our expense. Upon closer inspection, we discovered that somebody had vomited in the tub. With that said, the tub has been sanitized. I don't believe your behavior was malicious, things just got out of control. You informed me that you have a hot tub. Would you treat your tub like you treated mine?

Wonderful weekend get-away

  • 5 of 5

The house is gorgeous and clean. Lisa was a great host- very easy to reserve and coordinate. We had a wonderful weekend. The house is a fun place to be even in the winter time! Well stocked with cooking supplies. Convenient that linens and towels were included. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
