Great Place to Stay Aug 2017
This was a great place to stay. Cottage is vintage 1980's with everything you need to have a great stay. Kitchen fully stocked. We stayed with 3 couples in the house and a few kids in a tent outside. Overlooking Lake Huron on a bluff with stairs to Beach. Large grassy areas outside cabin on all sides for outside games and relaxing. Fire pit on bluff. Beach a little rocky but not too bad. Owner very easy to work with. We will be coming back again for sure.
Quiet and Secluded!
If you are looking for a place to get away from it all then this is it! It is 13 miles to the nearest small town for groceries and gas. The house decor is retro 70's which gives it a "throwback in time" feel. The yard is flat and is great for outdoor games. The view of Lake Huron is amazing. There is a wooded lot on one side and a house on the other, but there are pine trees between the houses so lack of privacy is not an issue. The house is very clean and tidy. A few things to note: the accommodations state the house sleeps six people - but one of the twin beds is a rollaway bed so 6 adults (which we had) is probably not a good idea. There are 5 dining chairs. There is no air conditioning which was not a problem, but one of the front bedrooms was a little warm (July) even with the desk fans that were provided for each bedroom. To turn on the shower you have to really pull hard on the nozzle. There is a large private beach, but it has not been maintained so it is weedy. The only area to sit is right along the beach front where the waves keep the beach weed free. There are rocks in the water so bring water shoes. Lexington, MI is a great place to go for small souvenir type shops. Port Austin is great for kayaking to Turnip Rock. Darlene was very easy to work with and checked in via text to make sure everything was good. However, we had no cell service at the house.
(AT &T) Overall, it was a good experience and would recommend this house for couples who want to relax and fall back in time.
Everything was what we had hoped for our weekend with family
Enjoyed our stay, weather perfect, and house was just the right place to stay while we were attending our family reunion
A wonderful vacation on the lake 😊
We stayed at this property for the 4th of July week. There were 4 adults and 2 kids.
Darlene was wonderful. She was very responsive and went out of her way to make sure we were well taken care of.
Our kids loved the property. The yard is great place for them to play and although the beach was a little rocky they still had a great time playing in the sand. With a rake we were easily able to clean up a nice sandy area to play.
Do beware there are stairs to get down to the beach which may not be ideal for some people...for us it was fine.
As others have said, the entrance to the water is rocky and a little mucky but once you are out a little ways there was a sandbar.
The house was well equipped with the things we needed.
Overall it was a great place to stay and we hope to return next year!
Great stay, Friendly owner, Wonderful time
Where to start. The cabin is awesome. While there is no air conditioning, we stayed first week of August and did not miss it. With the windows open at night you get a great cross breeze. The beach is not big, but sandy and we brought the lawn chairs right to the waters edge and watched the sunrises, which are spectacular. The water is pretty shallow. My son who is only 3 feet tall was able to walk out into the lack about 100 yards before having to swim. I would highly recommend water shoes as the first 10 yards are big rocks before you hit the nice sandy part. This cabin is very secluded, but with Lexington 45 min to the South and Port Salniac closer at 15 min to the South, there are great restaurants and bars. Plenty of night life too, though we stayed mostly at the cabin and watched the lake and stars. Pat, the property manager is also really nice and very helpful. He has the skinny on anything you could need here. I highly recommend this cabin.
Our family has stayed at several VRBO cabins through the years, and we've had some amazing finds, but I think this may be the best on yet. This one has a lot of privacy, the cabin is quaint and nice, and Lake Huron is amazing! The beach is rocky in places, so bring beach shoes. I had a snorkel and mask too, for great exploring. There are a lot of rock groupings with interesting fish and so forth further out. You can go out quite a ways and still be only at 5 feet deep. This is the most private beach we've stayed at as well. Watch freighters go by day and night, and on still nights, you can hear the soothing low rumble of their engines. The wind would come blasting off the lake as we watched lightning in the distance. If you are looking to get away, to have some quiet, in nature, with the big lake, this is the place. There is one close neighbor, elderly lady, extremely nice person, happy to have nice families renting next to her for vacations, and she's not nosy or in-your-face or anything like that at all. There is a lot that could be said, but this place is a gem!
