FAQ's About Our Home

1. Is it close to the ocean? We are about 200 yards from the beach as the crow flies from our rooftop. The beach is Puerto Juarez which is the original Cancun Beach before the Hotel Zone ever existed. It is the polar opposite of the glitz of the tourist area. It still has the innocent charm of a small fishing village with a lovely public beach which is usually filled with locals rather then tourists (see pics). My favorite restaurant is there - Kulkukan - right on the water which serves margaritas that you simply can't get in the hotel zone right under two big palapas right on the beach.

Literally a two minute drive from our house, at the beginning of Puerto Juarez beach is the Ultramar Ferry which for 8 dollars takes you to our favorite island, Isla Mujeres, which is the reason why we bought in our neighborhood. It's a great island with a amazing beaches, tourist shops, restaurants, bars and - my favorite - fantastic inexpensive massages right on the beach. You can rent a scooter or golf cart and tool around the island on golf carts and scooters. A blast!

2. Is it safe? Completely safe. Our home is in a gated and guarded community which has guard service 24 /7. Look up the location on google maps or Google earth to get an idea of where we are. Search "Cuenca, Bahia Azul, Cancun".

3. How does the airport pickup/dropoff work

Tranquility House offers our TOTAL CARE PACKAGE which we give as a free service to ALL of our guests!

Guests of Tranquility House are treated as guests in our own home. We will pick you up at the airport when you arrive and drop you off at the airport when you depart free of charge (one group only please back and forth. If your group's arrival is staggered we can arrange other pick ups but your party will have to pay for the additional trips, so use your largest group arrival for the pick up.) Scott, our on-site property manager, will meet you at the home when you arrive. He is amazingly helpful (see our reviews). He also is well connected to the travel industry and so has been able to secure great rental cars and vans for small or large groups (we do not take a commission for this - this is just part of our service), help with finding tours etc.

After your arrival, Scott will take you for a tour of the area so you know how to get around town. We will show you the best Hotel Zone beaches, bars, grocery stores, gas stations, the Isla Mujeres Ferry (only a two minute drive away) etc. He can help you get tickets to all of the tourist destinations...and he lives right in the neighborhood if you need anything.

4. Should we rent a car or van? Is it hard to get around town?

It used to be very difficult to get around if you didn't know your way through Cancun's streets. Now it is a snap. I recently paid $2 a day to my US cell carrier (Verizon) to use my cell phone in Cancun just as I would back home...text, calls, and most importantly GPS. It works PERFECTLY now in Cancun/Playa del Carmen/ Tulum/ tourist destinations.

We have had guests that have stayed without rentals and they have even written reviews about how cheap and easy it was. However, I like having the freedom to get around when I want to, so I rent a car every time I go to Cancun.

5. Is there food and groceries close? Yes, Scott will make sure you get to the grocery store. Remember, however, that this home is in a real Cancun neighborhood. It is not in a resort. There is a small local restaurant outside our gate which serves local fare and is very good and inexpensive. Puerto Juarez is down the street with restaurants, but in general you will need to grab a cab, at least, if you plan to eat out. There's lots of suggestions Scott can give you.

Everything about this luxury large group or multi-family 5 bedroom property feels like the perfect location for a Cancun Vacation. Our daily rate is only $240 and up A NIGHT ($250 12/19-1/8 and $240 between 3/1-4/5)... an amazing bargain as a jump off point to the Hotel Zone, Isla Mujeres, Downtown Cancun, and an easy link to Bon-Am-Pok, the road to the Riviera Maya hotspots like Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza and other Mayan Ruins.

1. This five bedroom home is a five minute drive to the beginning of the Hotel Zone.

2. Two minute drive (ten minute walk) to the Isla Mujeres Ferry on Puerto Juarez...the original Cancun.

3. Seven minute drive to the downtown Yachitlan restaurants and bars.

4. Five minute drive to the bus station if you want someone else to drive you to vacation hotspots..

5. Property is in a completely safe gated development of Bahia Azul with 24 hour security and a great international community.

The large roof top lounge and recreation area gives you a breathtaking views of the waters of the Caribbean, and the island of Isla Mujeres. The gorgeous palapa (tiki hut) is furnished with three colorful hammocks, bar, barstools, gas BBQ and table and chairs for large group fiestas. Take the spiral staircase up one more floor to take in the view from the crow's nest - the amazing 360 degree view of everything! Three of the 5 bedrooms also have small LCD TV’s if you would like to relax and watch television in bed. There are also three Ipod ready radios in the home as well.

The bedrooms are furnished with luxury pillow-top mattresses with 400-600 thread count sheets and beautiful bedding. Each room features something special. The master is a very large space with expansive window views and master bath with a tropical feeling. We recently added a full size bed to that room for very large groups. The bathroom in the second king bedroom is furnished with a combination of high end bedding with traditional Mexican elements and contains it’s own bathroom with jazcuzzi tub. The third king bedroom has a more Mexican Spa-like feeling with it’s own full bath. The fourth bedroom has a walk-out balcony with now two matrimonial (full-size) beds and traditional Mexican decor. The final bedroom contains four bunk beds to make a great kid's bedroom or to house four individuals. In total, the home comfortably sleeps 4-16, easily housing large groups..

The kitchen is fully furnished with stainless appliances, gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, complete cookware, wine and drink glassware, and beautiful upgraded table settings. The dining room is furnished with a large luxury wood and marble table with matching buffet. The living room also contains a game table for poker night or late night games of Monopoly. The utility room is furnished with washer, dryer, ironing board and iron.

For a great island adventure, take the nearby ferry to the island of Isla Mujeres. Round trip ferry ride for only 11.00 USD per person. Carmen can set you up to take advantage of this great location for tours to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, or one of the magical Mayan Ruins. Let her know ahead of time and she can get you set with a quote and scheduling.

About Michael Yannette

I am thrilled to be able to offer this property for many to enjoy! I am a pianist and teacher and produce performances of all kinds including theater works where I perform in character as famous composers. Check out a few links of my YouTube performances of Gershwin and Scriabin. Just search 'Michael Yannette' and either of those two composers names. Unfortunately, I don't get to visit my little paradise nearly as much as I would like but I hope to spend more time here as the years go by.

Michael Yannette purchased this house in 2005

Why Michael Yannette chose Quintana Roo

In 2005, I took a year long sabbatical and spent some of my time in Cancun. A friend of a friend told me about this little gated community of Bahia Azul. Sixty percent of the development had already been built when I visited it for the first time. Throughout the home, the breeze filled the space with the most incredible feeling. There was a remarkable brick lined cupola - something that I simply had never seen before in the states. The space was open and airy and was well constructed to keep the space cool. But when I got to the rooftop I was absolutely overwhelmed - the ocean views were gorgeous. You could see Isla Mujeres in the distance and THAT BREEZE - INTOXICATING!!! I bought the property pre-construction within the week.

Within one month of my purchase, Hurricane Wilma hit Cancun. I was still living here and endured three terrifying days of that horrible Cat 4-5 storm that stalled over the city. When the storm was over Cancun was devastated!

It would be three years before construction finally would begin again. All of the construction workers had moved to the hotel zone.

The home finally was completed in 2011 and morphed into something that was completely unique in the development. We had an inspiration to add another floor, raise the terrace and add the incredible circular palapa and 'Crow's Nest' with a Bar/BBQ and gorgeous Panamanian hammocks and the result is the most unique property in the development - none other like it - with much more space and custom features. Some things are worth the wait! I am thrilled with the result.

...just wish I could spend more time there. You'll have to enjoy it for me!

What makes this house unique

I can honestly say I rather be relaxing in one of the hammocks on my rooftop than perhaps anywhere in the world. The terrace is not actually directly on the water like the hotels in the hotel zone but it has a feeling that is so much more private and intimate. It's so quiet up there! It towers above everything and has an incredible 360 view of everything...sunrises and sunsets, the golf course next door, Isla Mujeres, the ocean and hotel zone hotels in the distance.

For a change of pace I relax in the hot whirlpool. I really enjoy it when my 26 year old son comes down with his girlfriend or when other family members come to visit because we are big gamers! We are a board game family so we junk out on games on the game table - a unique little Cancun creation of a circular table with 'pie piece' chairs that fit underneath it. The best part of it is playing games while we watch a Blue Ray on the GRANDE LCD screen and make some munchies in the kitchen. That entire space in on the same floor so it makes being together really easy and fun! If I want some alone time I hide out in my master room which is huge and watch one of the smaller TV's while lounging in the bed. The master is a great space because the entire front of the room is lined with windows so the light is wonderful. Every room in the house has its own mini-split AC so everyone can adjust the AC to their own taste. I went all out when purchasing the beds and bedding. One of the great things about being on vacation and hosting others is feeling like someone can really rest - the beds are very high quality Posturepedic beds with cozy high thread count sheets. I actually SLEEP when I come to Cancun when I really need to rest!

And last but not least, after dreaming about that beautiful brick lined dome cupola for years, I finally built one into the top of the stairwell leading to the terrace. It has a great Spanish chandelier hanging from it and makes me smile everytime I pass it leading to my hammock!

Rooftop Bliss

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave! Michael was informative and Scott, the caretaker was helpful. There is a bit of a hike to a beach and a ferry ride. We walked about 15 minutes to the ferry that took us to Isla Muenjeres. We loved it there...300 pesos per person. Or else we went to the beach in the hotel zone...50 pesos for the taxi to the bus (route 1 or 2) then 12 pesos each for wherever you want to get off. There is a public beach in the area with washrooms. You can go wherever you want on the beach as no hotel owns the beach. We would definitely go back to "Tranquility House". Our kids really liked having their own space at night as we had busy days walking or being transported to the water. The rooftop was very relaxing and cool in the mosquitos or scorpions! If we needed assistance or to find out about tours, it was great to have Scott's help. We enjoyed being immersed in the Mexican culture rather than staying in a hotel. There is a basketball court and field a block away. Our boys played soccer and basketball with some local boys and although they couldn't communicate very well verbally, the universal language of sport was exciting to watch. Everyone had smiles and enjoyed each other's company. We felt safe and didn't have any problems. If you stay here, you will love the place....and also not want to leave. Thank you Michael for having a great place to stay and Scott for helping us.

What a great location! Although we didn't spend very much time at the house because of all the great activities in the area, Isla Mujeres, Akumal, the cenotes and so on. We did get a chance to hang out at the rooftop terrace. It was really NICE. Great neighborhood area. We went jogging to the ferry terminal every morning. The property manager, Scott was really helpful. Beautiful house! Highly recommended!

Home away from home :)

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What an experience we had at this home. We were a group of 9 adults visiting our favorite vacation destination... Cancun, Mexico! We have been to Mexico 4 times before this trip in the past 2 years and have never stayed in anything other than a resort. This house was everything we needed. From the moment I sent an inquiry to the owner until the day of the departure, we had fluid communication between us and Michael (the owner). Upon reaching the Cancun airport, Scott (your go-to guy for EVERYTHING) had arranged and paid for our ground transportation to the house. We had arranged to pick up 2 rental cars at the airport and of course once we got there, the company decided not to take our credit card insurance, which is very common in Mexico. They try to scam you out of hundreds of dollars to take their insurance instead of your own. So Laura took us back to the house. The very next morning Scott took us to the Hertz by Walmart and we were able to book the car using our own credit card insurance. We paid $80 per week for a car. Ya, worth the wait instead of paying $300-400 per car for insurance. Scott also gave us a TomTom to use while in town to make it easier to get around and it was a life saver many times. He even programmed in home to we could get there in one click. During the course of our stay we did alot. We visited The City nightclub in Cancun and it was the party of our lives. Unlimited drinks, table service, bottle service, the works. We went to Xplor and Xcaret. Went deep sea fishing & caught 3 Queen Triggers, 1 tuna, 3 barracuda including one that was a 40 lb trophy fish. We visited Isla Mujeres and enjoyed the beaches and local food. We drove to Tulum then back to Akumal bay to swim with turtles. Bring your own snorkel, it will cost $5 for a lifejacket. You do not need a guide. The house was exactly like the photos. The view was breathtaking. You are about 1 mi to the ferry to Isla Mujeres. Beaches near the ferry. I would highly recommend this house. It was clean, very large, great neighbors, Scott checks in with you through the trip to see if you need anything, close to shops, food. Oh and the beds are extremely comfortable. Thank you Michael, Scott and Laura for making this one of the most memorable trips we have had to date. We would definitely stay at this house again!

Owner's Response: Holy mama! I want YOUR vacation. In one thorough paragraph, you made me realize all the things I have yet to do in Cancun...didn't think that was possible! Thank you for the very kind words. Hosting you all was a great privilege...especially on the occasion of your anniversary! We'll see you again on your 20th! Better yet, don't wait that long- it was nothing but pleasure hosting you! Best, Michael

Home is perfect for stay with everything and more you may need

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house with a large group of family 16 August 2-10, 2016. The house was very nicely suited for all our group. Each couple and family had their own sleeping accommodation, and we had plenty of common area as well for the group. The location was everything we expected and more.. the house overlooked the marina and we thoroughly enjoyed laying on the hamicks. We moved around in cars but the house was easy to find and was in close proximity to a variety of eating establishments and hotel zone. Scott was so amazingly kind and was right around the corner if we needed anything. Scott had everything aranged for us to be picked and dropped off at the airport. The neighborhood is gated and with security. Upon arrival we enjoyed a drink at the "tiki bar". This was our first time renting this home. We will definitely rent this house again. Let me just say this place is absolutely wonderful!  We cannot wait to go next year and hopefully stay in the same place. It is absolutely breathtaking. Nicest place we've ever stayed in. I would recommend this to anyone going to Cancun in a group or family.
