I was born and raised in Maine. World traveler who spends my summers in Maine to be close to my family. Campbell Compound was built by my father and has been my house since childhood. Its the love of my life. I love meeting new people and sharing the beauty of this place with others. I work locally and spend my days active, surrounded by good friends, good books, drawing and playing in the summer sun.
I grew up in the house and take pride in making it more beautiful every year. Its the most perfect place in Mid-coast Maine. My own little honey hole.
The lake is this house's main attraction. All things revolve around the weather and lake settings. The mornings are serene and calm perfect for paddle boarding. In the evenings the sun sets in between the two mountains directly across the lake. There is always a lite breeze and loons to fall asleep to. The sound of the brook running through the property will lull you to bed at night.
I came with 2 sisters and it was perfect. We were gone all day and came home to a small very charming little "camp" with ALL tha amenities of home. We each had our own room and cooked lobster every night. We had a fire outside one night and cooked great breakfasts every morning and played games around the little dining table, every night. Stacey was a great hostess and responded right away if we had a question.
Very charming and deceivingly roomy little cottage! Any concerns or needs were immediately addressed. This is the perfect place to get away for a little rest and relaxation!
This was a great space. The cottage was small but comfortable and clean. The water was beautiful. The location on the east side of the lake was perfect for evening sun across the water.
Beautiful views, cute little pond perfect for lounging, comfortable beds, charcoal grill and cards against humanity. Made for a great sibling weekend. I would recommend this spot to anyone.
We stayed July 25-26, 2016. I waited a few days specifically so I could cool down from how angry I am at the lack of truth in this owner's listing, so if you are reading this, you are reading a reasoned, well thought out review of this property, not one written in haste and full-blown anger.
First, let me say this is a beautiful location with a view that is a serene panoramic of what we imagined a Maine getaway would be like. At least it was that way from 6 pm to 7 am , when the full-scale construction project going on 20 yards away on our cabin-owner's main property shut down for the night. You can't see that on the picture of the property put up on this site, but from 7am to at least 5 pm, it was a constant barrage of chain saws, band saws, hammers, power drills, hammers, what sounded like jack hammers, more power drills and hammers and just general construction work going on non stop. I am pretty sure I heard small ordinance as well, but I won't swear to it. This construction is not mentioned on the site and was never brought up by the Stacey Campbell in our discussions prior to our stay. That's not the right way to treat somebody driving from Maryland for their one getaway for the year and I do not appreciate it at all. At all.
At least two of the windows are missing screens, so the constant hum and bite of every bug in Maine could be heard and felt throughout the night, which was burning up (not the owner's fault) because of the unusually hot nights. It seems this cabin holds heat like a convection oven, even with the windows and doors open. In addition, the wifi did not work and the phone number Stacey provided was not the correct number. We kept reaching a very polite person who repeatedly explained she was not Stacey Campbell, so there was nobody to turn to for help.
I would stop payment on this "vacation" if I could, but that's not the way Homeaway works, so all I can do is warn others to stay clear of this property, at least until the big dig next door is complete. We could not believe the owner would be so misleading as to not mention a wholesale construction project going on next door.
This is the perfect seasonal location in between two beautiful villages. Its on the lake, rustic, open and just what you need. Owner on site. I'm a wealth of local information. Bring your paddle boards, flippers, floaties, boats, pets and children. There's ample parking. The cottage has 2 bedrooms and a loft that is great for children. 4 guest maximum. Others will be charged $35 per person.
