Plymouth was the site of the colony founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, passengers of the famous ship the Mayflower. Plymouth is where New England was first established. It is the oldest municipality in New England and one of the oldest in the United States. The town has served as the location of several prominent events, the most notable being the First Thanksgiving feast. Plymouth is located approximately 40 miles south of Boston in a region of Massachusetts known as the South Shore. Plymouth is served by Boston Logan International Airport Map, Plymouth Municipal Airport.

In need of some love and attention, in a beautiful setting

When we arrived at the property the previous guests had left dirty plates in the dishwasher. I believe this was probably because they could not work out how to use it, as is it was not plugged into the electric or the plumbing. This does however also mean that the property was not checked and cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. There were also clumps of dog fur around the house which triggered my husbands asthma. Whilst I appreciate the guests may not have had permission to have their pet stay, if the property had been thoroughly checked and cleaned this would not have been a problem.

Our group enquired about the possibility of the property sleeping 9, 6 adults and 3 children and our booking was accepted. However, when we arrived the sofa bed in the conservatory was broken. Their were several springs missing and when you lay on it the other springs popped off too. The remaining three rooms had double beds so technically they can sleep up to 6 adults however we had a mother and son in our group (ages 50+ and 25) and none of the beds were adaptable to twins. I accept that we should have checked this however this meant that my husband and I, who could not sleep on a broken sofa bed had to sleep on the sofa bed mattress (very very thin) on the floor.

Another serious concern we had was the safety of the outdoor area. The garden around the property is on the edge of the lake, and whilst there is a flat area at the top it becomes very steep quite and has a cliff edge to the lake. The fencing in the garden was badly damaged and there was a huge section of fencing missing leaving the children very vulnerable to falling down the steep cliff. Luckily I have sensible children, and also we managed to find some rope in a discarded heap of wood piled in a corner (also very unsafe), and put up a rope line ourselves to indicate a boundary to the children.

It is a shame because the house is in a very beautiful spot. The park is fantastic, the neighbours are very friendly and the opportunity to swim and row in the lake provided a fun filled week. With just a bit of love and attention it could be a lovely rental property. The property manager, Emin, did however apologise and gave us compensation for our discomfort and inconvenience. He also assured us that he would address the issues we had raised. A gardener arrived towards the end of the week - although he did not appear to know anything about the boundary issues.

Grand Opening Guests

The view from this home is amazing. The rear of the house overlooks the Billington Sea. There is a porch upstairs and downstairs that has a beautiful view of the water.

The house itself was not ready for guests when we arrived; remodeling construction was still occurring on the premises. Construction equipment and trash littered the front lawn. There were no blinds and window coverings when we arrived. The 3 AC units were 1 AC unit that was in a bedroom and had to cool the entire upstairs. Downstairs had no AC units.

We immediately encountered some concerning issues. There was broken laminate flooring at the side entrance. In the upstairs bedroom, electrical outlets had no plates. The dining room had a ceiling fan and the only one light bulb worked. The wall clock did not work. The TVs was not set up in the bedroom, and the Living Room TV had not been programmed. In the kitchen the stove had a broken burner, the refrigerator inside door was held together with electrical tape.

The owner was responsive to some of our needs. He explained that this was the grand opening of the house, and some things were not complete. After an email the morning after our arrival detailing some concerns he stopped by and worked for 4 hours while we took a day trip. He addressed some of the concerns.

I would say there is comfortable sleeping for three couples and one single in the house. If you have small children, you need to bring sleeping pallets and/or cribs for them. The kitchen is not well-equipped. Dishes were fine, but pots/pans limited and limited cooking utensils. The dishwasher is one that moves from one side to the kitchen and is manually connected to the sink. No dishwasher soap was provided.

The downstairs area was very warm. A dehumidifier runs and heats up the area. The bathroom fan is loud. The laundry area is available but again make sure you bring your detergent. There was also no privacy for the 3rd bedroom. It has windows directly to the back porch area. This house is very bright. Full sunshine at 5:30 a.m.

We stayed three nights. The final day there were construction workers on the premises at 8:30 a.m. and our checkout time was 11 a.m. It was disappointing to not have those final hours to enjoy the lawn and outside deck area.

Unfortunately, we were not at the house long enough for all of the items to be fully addressed. We have given detailed feedback to the owner so hopefully future guests will be wowed with their experience.

Owner's Response: As Lisa noted, her visit was the grand opening for our Morton Park - Plymouth property. At the time, we were just finishing up a home improvement project. Although the final fixes were in place too late for Lisa’s stay, we have addressed most of her comments, including the construction cleanup, installation of remaining electrical plates, blinds installation of all critical windows, completion of TVs setup, the creation of critical rental information documentation for guests. Regarding providing enough soap and other household supplies, as with all of our properties, we strive to provide our guests with a large space and amenities that allows your stay to feel like a home away from home. In addition to providing a furnished house, we include a reasonable amount of linens, towels, sheets, pots, pans and other essential toiletries to get visitors started. I will make sure to update our ad to detail which supplies and amount are included. Deservingly so, Lisa was issued an apology for the incomplete work. Our construction team worked really hard to have the home done in time for our first set of guests. However, on final day, there was a torrential rain storm, which made meeting the deadline even more of a challenge. To see firsthand, Lisa was invited to revisit our property. We are more than confident that most, if not all, of her concerns were addressed. Thanks again for your sharing experience, and we will continue to improve our offerings as consistently as possible.
