Our family has traveled to Maggie Valley for over 20 years. Every summer we rented a home with our children and enjoyed to many gifts the area has to offer ie. woods, wildlife, quiet time together, rowdy time as well. Many memories were made and we decided to purchase a family retreat home at the top of a ridge. We continue to visit with friends and family and would love to share our uniques experiences with you. Our home is very comfortable and appointed well with linens and cleaning provided. Full comforts of home, but a true getaway with unbeatable views of the sunrise and sunsets! We hope you'll consider meeting 'on the ridge' at Wind Spirit Ridge, Smoky Mountain Retreat, MAGGIE Vallley, NC
Cathy Liott purchased this lodge in 2005
There are many attractions in a close vicinity. Theme parks, wildlife preserves, trout fishing, golfing, apple orchards, antiique shops, snow skiing, horseback riding at authentic Cataloochee Ranch, 30 minutes to Asheville airport and Biltmore mansion, gardens and winery. Cherokee Indian Reservation is also 30 minutes and educational as well as entertaining with the casinos and live theatre. We hope to the home someday.
There is a paved, maintained road that takes us to the top of the ridge and breaktaking views. Many rentals are hard to access on dirt roads that are not maintained. We feel we have the seclusion and privacy in the woods with the convenience of easy access. The main lodge at the bottom of the hill is on call for your needs.
We had the house for the month of July. It was an exceptional place to stay. It was about 8-10 minutes up the mountain but the roads are all paved so it was easy. Unfortunately, the weather was not as cool as we expected, but not much you can do about that. The house was perfect for our friends and family. 2 bedrooms up and 2 bedrooms down. The upstairs bedrooms are much nicer and each have their own bath. Downstairs would be perfect for teenagers and children. Great outdoor view with a nice weber gas grill. Plenty of outdoor furniture, also. The owner (Cathy) was a pleasure to deal with. If I went back to Maggie Valley, I would definitely stay there again...Only about 10 minutes from Frankie's Italian Restaurant which is the best in the whole area.
We stayed at Wind Spirit for an entire month (August). When you stay at someone else’s home for that long you get a terrific sense of what is good and bad about the house. That’s what so great about Wind Spirit – all we found was great! The view is fabulous, especially in the morning. The other important creature comforts are equally outstanding – beds, bathrooms, closets, showers, kitchen, sofas. The house is furnished in a way that no matter where you sit or lie, you feel like it is almost like your own home. The double master suite works really well for 2 couples. We didn’t use the bedrooms downstairs but it appears that it sets up well for a family with 2 kids or a slew of kids. Even though we felt like we were on top of a mountain, everything we needed for everyday living – groceries, restaurants, drug stores, golf, dog park – was just 20 minutes or less away.
It is the perfect mountain getaway whether you plan to stay for a weekend, a week or a month.
This was a family vacation. We had 9 adults and 1 child. The house was great, big enough for everyone. The view was so beautiful from the mountain. We loved the cabin. Great walks around the property.
This home was well maintained and and the views were beautiful. Everything was pretty much as pictured. Upgraded plumbing fixtures and furnishings. Better than most vacation rental properties.
Just be aware this home is on 3 levels and you have to use two of the levels to come and go. Therefore if you have young children, elderly persons or people with disabilities traveling in your party this might not be the best fit. My 9 year old son took a pretty big fall down the stairs going from the kitchen to the game room. He wasn't running either.
Also, through no fault of the owner, a squirrel or some other forest critter somehow got into the walls of the house in the second master bedroom and was trying to scratch/dig it's way out and made that room completely unusable. This happened on day four of our seven day trip. That part wasn't great but again, you're in the woods. These things can happen. We were lucky enough that we did need all of the rooms so we were able to move all of our belongings into another room.
The only recommendation I would make to the owners would be to add a hot tub. It's too nice of a house not to have one included.
Everything was perfect for our stay, we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our vacation. 11 people spent 5 nights together along with 2 toddlers, we all had plenty of room but enough space to spend time together too. A word of advice though, if you have little ones, bring a baby gate or two. We brought our own but the cabin had one also. One of our little ones took a tumble down the stairs, he was fine with only a banged up thumb and lip but we should have kept the baby gate up constantly. Other than that we had a great time. We will definitely stay here again if we get the chance to go back to Maggie Valley.
This was an absolutely perfect vacation get away. We had two families, and it was perfect set up for that. Two master bedrooms and ample space made it great for multiple families. I have stayed at many VRBO homes, and the hospitality here was the best ever. They thought of everything. Kitchen stocked with staples- spices, oil, salt etc. Everything from garbage and ziplock bags, to toilet paper that would last the full stay, bathrooms stocked with shampoo and body wash. Anything we forgot, was taken care of. Including flashlights when we lost power. The owners were amazing to work with, and very accommodating. We did wish we looked at the directions they sent us before blindly following GPS which took us to incorrect location, but that is our fault :-) I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
