This 1930's apartment has been characterized as one of Athens's most beautiful heritage apartments. It contains artifacts from various epochs of Greek history. It has an amazing bohemian ambiance in original 1930 architecture.
The apartment building, designed by I.Zolotas was commissioned by an industrialist. It is one of the city’s few remaining authentic Art Deco style buildings. It was built in the area of Kipseli, where the Athenian ‘crème de la crème’ rich and famous resided between the 1930’s until 1980’s, such as Maria Callas and many shipowners.
Within a short distance from the Acropolis and the historic center of Athens, the apartment overlooks the renowned café-filled, pedestrian zone of Fokionos Negri. In the late 1980’s it was bought and renovated by an international banker (and earlier Greek-resistance hero) and his wife artist and collector. After many decades of neglect, the eccentric couple, took on the 360sqm apartment for renovation. Staying true to its original style, they filled it with their collections and transformed it into a unique living environment again. The apartment has very high ceilings and large rooms are large. It still has the original paint on the walls and is very atmospheric. Apartment includes portraits of Maria Callas, Angellos Sikelianos and Orientalist art.
(The apartment is normally inhabited by the owners.)
Location: The apartment is 10 minutes taxi ride from the city center of Athens Sindagma (Parliament Square). It is an old-aristocratic neighborhood, with many beautiful buildings. The apartment is located opposite a fountain, and the whole street is a tree-lined pedestrian area filled with restaurants and coffee shops. The home is located near a main Boulevard of Athens named 'Patission', from where you can hop into a taxi to take you to the Acropolis and the historical center in 15 minutes. The National Archaeological museum is within 15 walking distance. The nearest beach at 'Faliron', which also has a prestigious yacht marina, is about 20 minutes away by taxi.
Also, walking distance from the apartment, are regular buses leaving for Sounion and Rafina portt.
