About Nancy Crafton

We both grew up in the Pittsburgh, PA area and the Boone area reminds us very much of Western PA with the rolling mountains, rivers and streams and especially the winter weather. We have lived in Winston Salem NC for the past 36 years so NC is now home. We enjoy all the unique shops and sites that make the NC mountains a special place to visit.

Why Nancy Crafton chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

As our three lovely daughters grew, married and moved away the empty nesters needed a new project and place to visit when time permits. The project was decorating and we decorated the condo the way we would want it if we were going to live in it fulltime. We really don't have a lot of time yet to visit the mountains so thought we would share it with others and rent our place. When looking for a place in the NC mountains we decided on Echota because of the uniqueness of the development. The style of the condos fits a mountain setting to a T! We basically bought the 'view' of Grandfather mountain but received so much more. Our condo is in what is called a 4 Plex meaning there are a total of 4 condos in the building. Two upper and two lower units. We bought an upper level once again, for the view. We have 2 daughters and two sons-in-law who graduated from Appalachian State University so the mountains of NC are very near and dear to many hearts in our family. Our other daughter graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and her husband from UNCC. They also love the mountains and are close enough to visit at times. This community is very well taken care of and well run so we feel very fortunate to be home owners at Echota.

What makes this condo unique

Our condo is an upper unit with great views of Grandfather Mountain. The fresh mountain air makes for a great nights sleep! The screen doors off the deck mean the doors can be left open at night for true mountain air sleeping! Doesn't get much better than that!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"The condo was perfect and exactly as described. The accommodation worked well for us and was very clean and welcoming. Everything we needed to prepare breakfasts or the odd dinner was there and they even had a keurig for my morning coffee (so take some coffee pods!). The really nice thing about Echota on the Ridge is that it has an indoor and outdoor pool and gym, and the outdoor pool was just amazing. It was heated, so that even though the air temperature was a very comfortable 75 degrees, the pool felt 5-10 degrees warmer than that. The kids loved it. We loved the hot tub! There was so much to do around the Blowing Rock and Boone area and we had a fantastic time zip-lining and white-water rafting!"

The complex was very inviting. My son said we had the best views in the whole area from Eckota. Our unit was spacious and cozy. We would definitely stay there again.

2nd Visit

  • 5 of 5

We had so much fun during our visit last year, that we decided to come back this year!

The condo was as beautiful and as spotless as we remembered it to be! It was wonderful to be able to see the gorgeous view of Grandfather Mountain once again!

If you like to cook, you'll love the fully equipped kitchen. It was stocked better than our own homes!

The location of the condo was perfect for the fishermen in our group, the shoppers, and those wanting to do a little sightseeing. The kids loved the stocked ponds on the property and the indoor swimming pool.

Nancy, the owner, was kind enough to make sure my sister's phone got reception while we were there. She's great!

Hope we can stay again next year!

I'll start at the end of our stay and say " we hated to leave this piece of paradise". The experience of sitting in the patio, after a long day of hiking in the beautiful surrounding mountains, was awesome. From this vantage point Grandfather Mountain looked oh so easy to climb (not so in reality). Nevertheless it was so soothing to stare at it, while sitting in the patio, along with a sea of green trees at eyelevel as well as below and above. Who cares to have dinner at a restaurant when you can fix a simple one at the lovely kitchen and sit in the patio enjoying your dinner, wine and beautiful scenery. Ah, isn't this what life is all about.

Arriving to the condo after a long day of travel from Sacramento, CA, we felt at home right away. It looked sparkling clean and ready to receive us for the next seven days. The kitchen is fully equipped. bathrooms too. All in perfectly working condition except for slight sluggishness while water drains in the shower and sink of the upstairs full bathroom (we brought that to the attention of management). Another frustrating experience was the front door; so complicated to lock and unlock. This is how they manufacture them these days, has nothing to do with the condo itself.

We took a walk inside the gated community where our condo is. Can't ask for a calmer morning walk in the mountains. Then we hit the Blue Ridge Parkway nearby to do the tougher hikes and visit the different waterfalls surrounding the area. What a treat the whole experience was.

Inside the condo we enjoyed the beautiful decorative touches of Mrs. Crafton. Nancy, you did a great job matching decoration. All of this added to our super satisfactory stay.

Would we come again? yes indeed I'd seek this condo even if I have to change vacation times to fit in the condo schedule.

First Class

I can not say enough about this beautiful, cozy mountain home. Everything from the furniture, bedding, and kitchen supplies were first class. Nancy as well as the rental company were awesome to work with and the home was immaculate. I definitely plan for my family to stay here each and every time we visit the NC mountains. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this home!

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We love Boone. My husband went to App, my daughter is currently at App, so we come out for games, have spent every Thanksgiving there for the past 8 years, and spend at least a week out there every summer. This is by far the best place we have stayed. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, very nicely but comfortably decorated. We made use of the board games and the books and the view was breathtaking. Echota was very conveniently located to attend an App game while in town, go hike Grandfather, and to take a Thanksgiving run out at Bass Lake. Thanks you so much for letting us stay in your home.
