About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Estes Park is a little 'slice of heaven' and we have created a comfortable and spacious, warm home on an acre of gorgeous mountain meadow in the Carriage Hills community of Estes Park - the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.

From our 2,340 square foot two-story mountain home, we have incredible 360 degree ever-changing views of the gorgeous, snow-capped peaks and plenty of blue skies and bright stars.

You can walk to neighborhood lakes and a bike path that runs adjacent to the golf course and loops through downtown, Lake Estes, and the fairgrounds. Great for a leisurely walk or bicycle ride.

Your family will feel at home in our smoke-free vacation home. We especially welcome families, as we have children ourselves and know how hard it is to travel with children and still have a relaxing vacation. This is a great home to have a family get-together.

The master has a queen bed, as well as a full bath directly from the bedroom and a patio door with views of the snow-capped Mummy Mountain Range. Two bedrooms have queen-sized beds with patio doors directly to a wrap-around deck. The fourth bedroom has a full size bed and a twin size bunk bed.

The cathedral ceiling Great room offers dynamic views of the Twin Sisters, the Mummy Range with snow capped peaks of Chapin, Fairchild, and Ypsilon (13,514 ft), Lumpy Ridge and the beautiful Estes Valley. The Great room has windows that face east, west, north and south, and it is open to the fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare a holiday meal or a picnic on the deck. Also enjoy a cup of coffee while reading the paper on one of the three bar stools at the log counter while conversing with the chefs. The Great room design allows families to be together to enjoy their vacation to the fullest as they prepare meals, watch TV and interact during the day.

The dining room table comfortably seats 6-8, and has the counter seating and the bistro table nearby so a family of 14 can enjoy a meal together.

Enjoy the additional bistro table for that morning cup of coffee or an evening of cards & games. We have plenty of puzzles and games to be played. Cozy up in front of one of the two fireplaces with a good book and a cup of tea or glass of wine. There is plenty of comfortable seating space to watch your favorite movie or sports event on the 47” flat screen TV. We have included many DVD’s and videos for the family. We also have free wireless Internet. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy reading there is the living room and an additional family room to relax with your own book or one of ours. This home is designed to enjoy the views and the sunshine from every room.

Being inside is fantastic but being outside enjoying the mountain air, wildlife, and views from our wrap-around deck is even better. One can easily spend hours just relaxing on the large deck reading, enjoying Colorado’s deep blue skies and bright sunshine, watching deer or elk meandering by, and soaking up the beauty of these magnificent mountains. Don’t rush in from that afternoon thunderstorm, enjoy the smells and sounds without getting soaked. You will be protected by the covered patio.

Enjoy the views while you grill on our easily accessible outdoor grill or have burgers at our 8-foot picnic table. Or just relax with your favorite beverage while watching the ever-changing colors of the Mummy Range. Watch the hummingbirds drink nectar or observe deer, herds of elk, picas, or rabbits playing in the yard.

At night, the quiet and the cool crisp mountain air are perfect for sleeping after enjoying a glorious sunset, and gazing for awhile at a night sky filled with a million stars!

This vacation home is not just a place to stay. It is a place to be with family and great friends in a setting that will inspire and enrich you. You will love our vacation home as much as we do!! Come and make our home your “home away from home” while on vacation in Estes Park. You will be glad you did!

About Daniel Sparling

Living in the great prairies of North Dakota My Wife and I have been Visiting the Rocky Mountains for years. We have always wanted a place of our own to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. When our daughter moved to Estes Park Colorado we thought. Great! We can just mooch off of them (Visit). Well they sold their home and we bought it to enjoy as a family and let others enjoy it as a family gathering place. It has been great for us. We hope you will visit our home and see why.

Daniel Sparling purchased this house in 2009

Why Daniel Sparling chose Carriage Hills

This area is one of the most beautiful areas of the rocky mountains. There are '14 ers' (mountains over 14,000 ft) surrounding Estes Park. Estes Park is a large enough community to have all the essentials and close enough to a large Metro area to enjoy shopping, professional sports, and museums. We are the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park with miles and miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. There are trails for every level of rider that are easily accessible from our home. What a great place to come to snowshoe or cross-country ski. Down hill skiing is just 45 minutes away at Eldora Ski Resort. The wildlife abounds in the area right in our community of Estes Park. Come and join us for Elktober. This is when the elk come down from the high country in the fall to rut. You can hear Elk Bugling and see Bulls challenging each other. The rut is when the males are gathering their harem (females) for next year's calves.

What makes this house unique

Gather your kids and their spouses and your grandchildren. There is plenty of room for a family reunion. You won't find a home like this that has a quiet space for yourselves and a large great room for all to enjoy one another together. The views from this home are excellent in all four directions. See the high peaks and Estes Valley. There is plenty of room on this one acre lot to challenge each other in that outdoor family game. Or you can just sit on the wrap-around deck and watch the ever-changing mountain scenery. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dan, Thanks for sharing your wonderful house. We enjoyed out trip to Estes Park. Your house was a plus to the trip. We did not want to leave to go back home to Texas. The last night we were there, I was lying in bed on my tablet. My dog, Gunner, kept barking and running to the sliding door in my bedroom. I finally got up to see what he was barking at. I really thought it was your neighbors horse. No, there was a hugh herd of elk eating just outside the house. It was amazing. We watched them until it was to dark to see. This just made staying at your house more wonderful. Thanks, Dora

Wonderful location to enjoy the mountains

  • 3 of 5

This house has an excellent location, with easy access to all parts of RMNP without having to go through downtown Estes Park. From the decks we had great views of mountains, sunsets, clouds, and wildlife (we saw deer, a coyote and a gopher). The furnishings are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. We were not so well impressed with the management. Various chairs needed to be replaced or fixed. We saw mice in both downstairs bedrooms. If you plan to stay here, bring paper supplies. We had to buy bathroom supplies such as toilet paper, facial tissues, bath soap, etc. We wanted to grill but were surprised to find both propane tanks empty. The location is wonderful and the house is very comfortable but management needs to be improved.

Perfect mountain getaway for our family of flatlanders

  • 4 of 5

A little rough on the outside, but overall was perfect for our three-generation family. We used the deck morning and evening...outstanding views in all directions.

We were visited by 25-30 elk on the first evening, and several doe during our stay, one with two fawns.

We'd stay again without a second thought.

Absolutely fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. We were in the property form a Saturday to a Saturday. Getting in and settled was very easy and straightforward. The property is within walking distance of a small park which we frequented a few times. The city is a very short ride away, we didn't brink bikes but we could have biked over. Plenty to do and see in town or rocky Mtn. park is right outside of town. The property was well furnished with a lot of those small items you forget to take on vacation. Overall a great place to stay.

Estes Park is nestled at the foot of Rocky Mountain National Park, a large and beautiful wilderness area that offers recreational possibilities all year round. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is only 5 minutes away with an endless amount of trails to hike for all ability levels and trout fishing to excite the eager angler in your group. If you love horseback riding, as I do, the trails are endless in the National Park and all around us in the national forest. You can even ride your horse from your vacation home. You can also rent horses by the hour, day or week at Sombrero Outfitters. In the summer and fall, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, river rafting, and similar activities for the outdoor enthusiast abound. A portion of the park is traversed by Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in the world, which is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and offers unbelievable panoramas of the fragile and beautiful tundra.
