Overview

About the property

2 Master Suites With King Beds, 3 Bedroom With 3 Detached Bathrooms

This majestic edifice is a recently built custom estate that elegantly blends Caribbean influences, local woodwork with modern architectural finishing. Etched into the Escalares mountain range at 1,000 feet of elevation, every room in the home opens up to incredible and fascinating views, including 70 miles of Southern Pacific Ocean Coastline as wild flora and fauna abound. The Cano Island, the famous Whales Tale, rolling, undulating mountain ranges, and rainforest form a natural amphitheater view for the resident to consistently behold. Local farmers offer wonderful organic produce and fresh seafood caught daily, creating a myriad of opportunities to enjoy. The number of outdoor activities is limitless with adventure at every corner. The live entertainment found on the Southern Pacific coast is incredible with multiple options to treat your guests. Take advantage of the rhythms and vibes that each place offers up; you will be able to mix it up with locals and friends, all the while enjoying the amazing spaces that have been created, having a private rancho, walking trails throughout, a seasonal creek, fruit trees, and acres of lush tropical landscaping of this property. This nature corridor sees the monkey, toucans, and a broad range of other birds which allows you to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest every day.

The property has a private entrance with electric and fortified gate and grounds/housekeeper house. It occupies a total land size of 18,112 square meters / 4.5 Acres. It also has an additional building area equal in scope, size and view to the one the existing home sits on. The house encompasses a total living space of 628 square meters / 6,760 square feet, covered decks, and patios, with a central air conditioning system and high speed internet throughout. With exposed beams, artistically furnished walls, high rise ceilings, quality timber finishes, beautiful stonework and well decorated interiors the home is captivating for everyone who enters. On the main floor, the principal entrance to the property leads you into an open living area including the dining room, living room, and ultra-modern and spacious kitchen with cooking island and wrap around bar seating. A large balcony with folding doors to the BBQ is a key feature and centerpiece for this area. A pantry and laundry room is positioned in close proximity to the kitchen. On the main floor, 2 oversize, equally appointed master bedrooms reside on opposite ends of the home. They feature solid hardwood flooring, high –rise ceilings and exposed beams with their own private balconies and lavishly sized en-suites. Each of the master bathrooms has separate sinks, a large walk-in shower and hot tub, all surrounded by high-quality ceramic finishes. The centerpiece of the lower level floor and hub of social activity is an open living area with wet bar and seamless access to the infinity swimming pool, large hot tub and views of the Pacific Ocean and rainforest unlike any you have seen. A bathroom and storage room can be found just off this living area; two guest bedrooms offer direct access to the pool and outside shower where a soothing body swimming can be experienced. The right wing of this area includes a full gym with cardio equipment I think we moved that to make more living area). The home has an oversize carport for two vehicles and a single car detached garage. This one-of-a-kind property is extremely private and offers the buyer more usable land than any other 5-star home in the area.

My whole family was amazed by this beautiful home with the awesome ocean view. We LOVED Costa Rica!!

  • 5 of 5

We travel a lot and this was our best vacation ever. The house was very impressive. When we drove up at night with the house lit up, we were stunned! The home was gorgeous, set in the mountain side among lovely landscaping and a view of the ocean (and sunrises) from each room, with spacious rooms, high ceilings, comfortable beds and quality construction using marble, granite and rich dark wood. The infinity pool was incredible and used a lot!! My adult children said it was all so beautiful that it felt surreal. We loved the warm, sunny weather and all the wildlife: toucans, monkeys, red macaws, green parrots, a sloth, coati, peccary, butterflies, giant flying grasshoppers, iguanas, giant toad, geckos, leaf cutter ants, tropical fish, dolphins and a fer de lance! The area had so many activities to choose from, a week was not enough time. We enjoyed the beaches, surfing, snorkeling at Cano Island, charter fishing, white water rafting, zip lining, ATVs to a coffee farm, horseback riding to Nauyaca Falls for swimming and relaxing at the house. It was all fun and wonderful. The grounds keeper and maid were attentive to all our needs. Special thanks to Ben Morris for arranging a last minute charter boat for fishing (and snorkeling) on our last day when our reservation was cancelled the night before. That was incredible and preserved our perfect vacation. Advice: Yes, you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up to the house. The gravel road is rough and steep. Many places, including restaurants, take only cash. You also need some ability to speak Spanish! And if you find a public bathroom, bring your own toilet paper! Thanks to everyone at Casa Big Sur for a fabulous vacation.

You have to experience it!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house deserves a standing ovation. The architecture, the view, the amenities and the services provided by Ben and his staff are 5 stars. This is a place where you can relax have a excellent time with family and friends. The price becomes irrelevant when you get there and gets the value of very dollar you spent.

Congrats to Ben and his staff, I am pretty sure that I will come back soon!!!

I really recommend this place for local and international tourists, you will not be disappointed at all.

A Stunning house with a multi million dollar view.

  • 5 of 5

The house and surrounding grounds were absolutely gorgeous. Ben and his house keepers, made our trip very relaxing at all times. All of the past reviews that I read, "Ditto" on everything they said. We took pictures that look just like the VRBO pics. Yes, Toucans, monkeys, and all types of birds fly over your head while relaxing in that beautiful infinity edge pool. The best experience was our friend, Roger the Chef. I have eaten at some of the top restaurants around the world, and Roger's cooking skills are top notch. Writing this review, makes me want to book another trip before the summer is over. Thanks for helping our family make such awesome memories. Adam

About Ben Morris

Moving to Costa Rica in 2003. I partnered with Matt Hayden which invested in land in Playa Junquillal, Guanacaste, where we built Tierra Pacifica (www.tierrapacifica.com). The 76-lot, 220 acre development is complete with amenities, including club house, pools, tennis courts, and recreation center. We built the community Doug Stern and Will Rapp the bed and breakfast, Club Arbol, and several other custom homes which compliment the community.

We decided to explore Costa Rica. We ventured further south, and the fauna became greener and more tropical. When we arrived in the Southern Pacific Zone, we realized it was the ‘cream of the crop,’ a true paradise. Hayden, Geoff Nolan and I invested in properties in Uvita, where they built Tierra Verde (www.tierraverdeuvita.com), after three lots in Big Sur, Escaleras de Dominical, where just completed our first masterpiece Casa Big Sur (www.casabigsur.com).

I'm immersed in Costa Rican life, polished Spanish language skills, hired crews, learned the local business procedures, adapted to a more relaxed pace, surfed the local breaks, made friends. I fell in love with a Tica Sidia, and married her and adopted a daughter, becoming more part of the local scene. During the last few years, I've built excellent relationships with ticos and the many ex pats which occupy Costa Rica.

Ben Morris purchased this estate in 2010

Why Ben Morris chose Dominicalito

The views are so good and we knew this property would never come back around. The southern zone has lots of amazing views however the pipeline of the coast we have is special and no one can say they have the same as Casa Big Sur!

What makes this estate unique

Weather in our area is always changing so it's so nice to be able to seat a relax anywhere in the house and see moving clouds, rainbows, lightening storms, rains and all the sun anyone needs to feel good.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We took a trip to Costa Rica in August 2014 and stayed at Casa Big Sur. The house is 5 STAR all the way! Before we got there Ben (the house manager) helped us with all the details additionally he had the house stocked with groceries. We also hired Roger the chef! He was great (ask for his nacho's for lunch they were delicious). The house was absolutely beautiful and nicely decorated. Both the upstairs and downstairs patio are a perfect place to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of the ocean. The view is just incredible and jaw dropping you can't believe it's real. You can see the Whale’s Tail, and all the way to Cano Island on a clear day. Surrounded by jungle on all sides, you feel one with nature. The beds were very comfortable that everyone slept great waking to the sounds of howler monkeys in the morning was just so cool. The house has 5 bedrooms that allow everyone privacy with their own room. The 2 master suites each have their own private balconies and master spas. Now let's talk about the infinity pool; this might have been my favorite part, the pool area was gigantic, better than the photos. Nothing better than swimming in the pool and seeing toucans, and macaws fly by. (They also had plenty of inflatable rafts and toys but we brought our own footballs to throw around). Also going in hot tub at night to look at the stars was a nice way to end the day. The house is not too far of a drive to some great beaches and restaurant's (We enjoyed Bar Jolly Roger which you can walk to). We will definitely be back!
