Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. Come enjoy One Palm Hill and experience all our island has to offer.
One Palm Hill is a stunningly lovely property that was the PERFECT place for our family of five to spend their first Tropical Christmas. The house itself is flooded with light, beautifully laid out, with much attention and thought put into decorating it with style while keeping it homey and comfortable. Every detail was considered, and the place was immaculate. The entire property was so beautiful, from the pool area to the landscaping that provided the perfect amount of privacy, it was like being at our own resort. The kitchen was top of the line and well stocked besides, the bathrooms well designed and attractive, the bedrooms all comfortable---each with their own bathroom, and each a corner location with two big windows for good circulation, individual airconditioners for maximum comfort, I could go on and on.
In addition to being one of the most attractive and comfortable houses we have ever rented, I was struck with how unusually well cared for we felt in terms of the hospitality that we extended to us, not only by the property management company and the caretaker for the house, but the owner herself! At every step of the rental process I felt completely connected and supported, which is particuularly nice when you are going out of the country. With their help I was even able to arrange to have a live Christmas tree delivered to the house just before our arrival---something I could never have managed myself from so far away, and which meant a huge deal to my children.
Finally, for those considering the island of Eleuthera, I can recommend it heartily to anyone who is looking for an authentic Bahamanian experience---few tourists, breathtaking, deserted beaches just minutes away by foot or car, a friendly local community. If you don't want to see potholes or a few empty lots, if you want chain restaurants or brightly lit supermarkets, if you need 4-lane highways and your phone to work 100% of the time, this might not be the island for you, but if you are open to a little of unpredictability, I can assure you that I cannot imagine a more beautiful, peaceful, gracious base of operations for your Eleutheran adventure than One Palm Hill!
Can't say enough about how nice the home is. The beds were very comfortable! They have air conditioning in all of the rooms. The furniture is new and contemporary, marble and wood flooring (wow), everything you need in the kitchen, layout of the home is perfect and a pool/bbq to end up the day. The shed is loaded with beach play toys.
We loved Tippy's bar and grill and the beach there is great on a calm day. The Sunset Inn had a nice lunch. Many restaurants were closed during our visit (down season) but we would always find one hidden here or there. The Friday night Fish Fry in town was a fun experience. Take the trip to the beach at the Lighthouse, it is worth every wrong turn! Enjoy your ocean view at the end of the day.
Wow! Where do I even begin? This place was everything I thought it would be and more. To say that it far exceeded our expectations, would be an understatement. The love and attention to detail that went into this home is evident everywhere you look. From the fully stocked kitchen, martini glasses, wine glasses, and a vast assortment of others to choose from, recipe books, guides to island beaches, carefully planned binder with all home and island info, snorkeling gear, coolers, beach/scuba supplies, to shower scrubs in every bathroom, washer/dryer, & a cell phone that could be used on the island (more time could be purchased atgas station). Oh yeah, Wi-fi... did I mention wi-fi? This place had it all. And when I say immaculate and pristine, I mean it! There wasn't a spec of dust to be found ANYWHERE. One Palm Hill was a dream of aesthetics wrapped in functionality.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Carol, the caretaker. She was a phone call away, any time we needed her. And boy did we need her when we thought we lost keys to the house. (Someone forgot placing the keys in the beach chair... lol That may or may not have been me. I was having too much fun to remember) In any event, it was late evening and Carol had someone there for us within ten minutes of phoning her.
Now for the island. Oh, the island! 135 beaches (there's a great book in the house listing and rating all of them). We arrived late Friday afternoon, and headed over the the Friday Fish Fry, where we had a blast, eating, drinking, and dancing to a street deejay, who plays every Friday evening.
We explored the island and utilized the pool and home every day. And the people were great! Any time we stopped, someone stopped in seconds to ask if we needed help. In fact, on our way to Lighthouse Beach (AN ABSOLUTE MUST), we made a wrong turn (why don't men ever listen?! lol) and met George Bullard, a Southern Eleuthera local. Turns out he owns a bar, and who could resist a cold Kalik (or two lol), the native island beer? I don't even drink beer, and loved it, and loved George's company. He directed us later to his friend Rosalie (my name too) at Northside restaurant. Food was amazing! Again, so was she.
One Palm Hill, and the people on this island make you feel happy, alive, and free. Eleuthera is after all, The Island of Freedom.
I can't imagine staying anywhere else on the island.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this home.
Where to start?! We had a perfect vacation in this perfect home. To start with, the directions to the property were right on. We were happy to find that the caretaker had it prepared about an hour early; we had been traveling for a full day (LONG story!) and were ready to relax. The house is spectacular. Everything, from appliances to towels, was in great shape. You could tell some money had been invested in the amenities and not cheap stuff because it's "just a vacation house". Seriously. They thought of everything, from laundry detergent to bottled water. Save for a trip to the grocery store, we needed nothing! 14-hour power outage? No problem because you've got a top-of-the-line generator! It never missed a beat. You're even provided with a cell phone that's been pre-loaded with minutes so you don't have to use your international plan. The pool is perfect for hanging out when you don't feel like trekking to the beach (but you're in the Bahamas. Go to the beach!). Speaking of the beach, the beach closest to the house is quite nice but if you drive another 10 minutes or so down the same dirt road, you'll find the old Club Med beach. It's, dare I say, perfect! And not crowded at all. The house is less than 10 minutes from Governor's Harbor where you'll find your groceries and the most delightful little coffee shop, Da Perk. We ate there three times! I'd give this home 10 stars if I could. I can't think of one single improvement. We will be back!
My husband and I rented One Palm Hill for our 30th anniversary. It was our 3rd trip to Eleuthera. The house and all the details were so wonderful. The owner truly has made it feel like a home instead of a rental. The house is decorated beautifully and is extremely comfortable. We will definitely go back and take our children. The pool was an awesome thing to come home to after a day exploring and going to the beaches. The housekeeper, Carol, met us when we arrived and immediately made us feel welcome and answered any questions we had. She let us know she was only a phone call away. The location of the house is in Governors Harbour, and we really liked how central it was on the island since we have stayed in the southern and northern parts of Eleuthera. Locals are so friendly.....Friday night fish fry is a must. I just cannot say enough good things about One Palm Hill. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Rates are for up to 6 guests. For a 7th guest add
