About Sue Nilsson
I live in the NYC area, and am a short drive away. I am an avid traveler, enjoy photography, and like to capture the emotions and play of light in the moment a picture is taken. I also write and for my day job I work as an Executive Assistant.
Sue Nilsson purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Sue Nilsson chose Town of Blooming Grove
This 1938 cottage captured my heart the moment I saw it. The deck and quiet setting are inspiring. It is comfortable, and welcoming. We spent three years updating the electricity, plumbing, and even added a carbon water filter to make sure water is pure. Stone and wood created a cozy rustic charm, with ample natural light
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage provides easy access to anything any traveler might wish to do. And when all you want is a retreat from the hectic city life, it offers the serenity only a forest can provide.

Comfortable, quaint cottage with many stylish features
We enjoyed a stay at Sue's cottage while visiting our West Point cadet for a football weekend. Sue is very responsive and provides lots of information about the surrounding area. The cottage is stylishly decorated with many modern as well as traditional Scandinavian touches. The Dala horses and tomtens reminded me of my grandparents who were from Sweden. The kitchen is streamlined and very clean. We did not cook any meals while we were here, but the kitchen was well stocked with anything you would need. The shower is wonderful, and the sink/bathroom counter are just beautiful. The furniture was comfortable as well, and set up nicely for hanging out in the evenings. We hope to have the opportunity to stay here again and explore more of the hiking and wineries in the area.
Very quite and relaxing
Very quite and relaxing....loved the updates.
Great little cottage
A group of four of us stayed here for the weekend and loved it! Very well decorated and it had everything we needed and more. Just a heads up- the well water in this county has some issues with a sulfuric smell that sometimes comes out when the hot water is running. Don't worry! It's safe :)
The cottage was quaint clean and decorated beautifully. Great patio for meals or just relaxing
My husband and I were working very hard and really needed a stress free vacation. We were so pleased that we picked this warm wonderful cottage for three nights. The beds we're comfortable, the kitchen was very clean and well equipped, the bathroom was beautifully designed and the patio surrounded by trees was a restful place to do morning yoga, have a cup of coffee, enjoy meals and the cool mountain air. Sue left us brochures for nearby hikes, and activities which were abundant to do in the area. She was always available by phone email or text.
One of our best vacations. Can't wait to go back and stay again next year!!
Cozy and beautiful cottage
This house had everything we were looking for on our weekend trip from NYC. The beds were very comfortable (we loved the lofted one especially) and the kitchen and bathroom were fantastic with all the latest features. Our favorite part was the back porch, which is large and situated under lots of trees - we ate all of our meals out there. The whole experience was very relaxing and comfortable.
We would definitely rent this house again for a quick weekend trip from the city!
The Swedish Cottage is excellently located to tour the Hudson River Valley and visit West Point. Sue has the cottage completely stocked and provides coffee and tea options too. We didn't run across anything we needed that wasn't provided for. In addition, she provides information about area sites, dining, and shopping, which was very helpful. The cottage is decorated and furnished with such charm and comfort, it was the perfect stay for our family of three.
Thank you so much for your review. I appreciate the detail. Thank you for taking the time!
The cottage is less than 20 minutes from shopping, wineries, hiking, biking and lakes where you can take your canoe or kayak or go swimming. It is located half way between Monroe, NY and Washingtonville, NY. It is also a 25 minute drive (about 16 miles) to West Point Military Academy.
