Description

Pine Point Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Sea Rose Cottage is on Sea Rose Lane - a short access road to Pine Point Beach with 11 other properties. It runs off East Grand Ave and has no through access, so it is used primarily by residents and is considered a safe, ''kid-friendly'' lane.

Sea Rose Cottage is a two-story structure with a bulkhead walk-in basement. There is a small front yard and a larger back yard. The enclosed front porch is an enjoyable place to take in the activities of the neighborhood, and the airy rear sun porch is a peaceful, quiet place to relax and/or a fun room for games and dining. The first floor includes a living room and kitchen, with the three bedrooms and bath on the second floor.

The cottage is three properties back from the beach, with ocean/beach views from the two porches and bedrooms. Pine Point Beach is a gem of southern coastal Maine. Along with Old Orchard Beach, there is an uninterrupted seven miles of sand beach.

The amusement park at Old Orchard beach is a 2-mile walk or drive from the cottage.

For all these reasons and more, the cottage has become a favorite annual summer destination for several families from near and far.

Cozy little beach cottage

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed living at the beach cottage with my husband and toddler for four months over the winter. The location was awesome, just a couple of houses down from the sand of the beach. All of our friends and family loved the place, and thought it was "so cute" when they came to visit. The listing description was accurate regarding the location. The cottage was definitely cozy, the rooms were small, as were the closets, but it was definitely livable. the sun rooms were great, when the sun was out. The kitchen was a little tight to cook in, but it was possible - we cooked just about every day. The nearby attractions and restaurants were opening just as we were leaving. Old Orchard Beach is just down the road a bit, and was very fun to walk around and enjoy ice cream and hamburgers. The property was clean and well-maintained. The owner was great, and maintained good contact. I would recommend this property for short-term rentals, or for small families, just because of how tight it can feel over time. All in all, it was pleasure to experience the beach cottage, and I would be happy to stay there again next time I visit Maine.

Wonderful week!

  • 5 of 5

This is a sweet little house on a quiet street just steps from a beautiful beach. We befriended all of the neighbors and there were tons of kids around for our kids to play with. We are looking forward to visiting again next year.

Wonderful!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Another fabulous week at the cottage for our family!!

This was our fifth visit to what we call Sea Rose cottage and it was just as sweet as ever.

The neighborhood has been an added treat for the grandchildren as they are getting older and spend time with children they meet on the beach who are staying close by.

It is always hard to pack up and leave but then we have a year to anticipate another wonderful summer visit.

Many thanks to George, Joni, and their mom for being the best hosts!!

Memories

  • 5 of 5

The last week in July my sister and I stayed at Sea Rose Cottage. It was a return to our childhood. Our grandparents had owned this cottage from 1960 to 1972. We spent many weeks there over the years. We truly enjoyed our walk down memory lane. The cottage was much the same as when Nana and Grampa owned it...with some improvements such as a washer and dryer and an out door shower with hot as well as cold water. A big step up from the cold hose Nana made us use to clean the sand and salt off before entering. George was very understanding when we needed more parking space also...letting us park on the grass...which Grampa would never allow. It was wonderful to see things had not changed much...this is 'real' Maine...right down to the claw foot tub in the bathroom, but the new shower was a welcome sight. We hope to be able to return next year.

Another fabulous summer vacation at the Sea Rose Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

In August, my family and I spent our fourth summer vacation in a row at Sea Rose Cottage. As always, we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the new trundle bed and day bed which were new additions this year. One of our favorite rooms is what we call the sun room where we begin most mornings coloring with our grandchildren. The cottage is so very cozy and each space has its own charm. Our grandchildren especially love the out door shower as well. Having a washer and dryer in the basement is so convenient especially for beach towels throughout the week. My husband, son, daughter in law and two young grandchildren love the cottage and we look forward to our return all year long. Many thanks to George, Joni, and Priscilla for all they do for our comfort and convenience.

A Huge Disappointment

  • 1 of 5

When I decided to rent this cottage, I thought I had a good understanding of what to expect. We anticipated the cottage to be small and a bit vintage. What we found was not what we expected. The cottage was not exactly as shown or described.

Two bedrooms shown on-line with the bunk beds are very small. In one bedroom you can probably take two steps that is it. The closet has no hangers and there is not a dresser. There is no place to unpack your clothes. The top bunk is so close to the ceiling that my kids were uncomfortable sleeping up there. The second bedroom shown, with bunk beds actually do not have bunks, it is a trundle bed. Not quite the bed set up we expected. When the trundle is open, there is no place to walk at all in the room. It was so difficult to open the trundle that it was just best to keep it open during our stay. This room also has no hangers or a dresser. It is a long 2 weeks living out of a suitcase.

The living room has a daybed in the corner. It was useless to have a bed in the living room especially since it was made very clear in the lease that extra guests were not allowed. The kitchen was a disaster. The stove is tiny and had only one rack inside. It made for cooking our meals for a family of 5 difficult and much planning was needed. The burner trays were disgusting. We found new ones and replaced what we could. The garbage disposal did not work. We alerted Joni and she said she’d send someone out to fix it ~ that never happened. The silverware drawer was so dirty we took everything out and cleaned it. The pots and pans under the sink were in such disarray we also cleaned all that out.

The Wi-Fi did not work well. I also alerted Joni of that and she said she’d send someone out ~ that didn’t happen either.

The washer and dryer are described to be in the basement. I did not anticipate having to carry my laundry outside, around to the back of the house, to the bulk head, go down tricky steps to do my laundry.

The grill is rusted along with the advertised lobster pots, bikes and pogo sticks. The beach chairs are covered in cob-webs.A living room window screen had a huge hole in it.

The smoke detectors did not work. I purchased new batteries hoping they just needed to be replaced, but they did not work at all. I am disgusted that you would rent me cottage with smoke detectors that did not work. How dare you put my family at risk of such danger.

Owner's Response: We're not perfect and do not profess to be. This reviewer did state some deficiencies with the condition of several areas of our cottage, and we want to provide assurance that we took corrective measures during and following the reviewer's stay. The bedrooms are indeed small -- "cottage-sized". There are two closets -- one on each floor -- that are usually stocked with a sufficient supply of hangers. After departure, we found most of them in the basement laundry area. There is a day-bad in the living room, that most guests enjoy for daytime resting. We do set a standard limit of 6 for occupancy, but we have made agreements for additional guests when requests were made, and any guest is welcome to use the day bed for overnight sleeping. The stove is small -- "cottage-sized", and suits the needs of most guests who prefer not to cook all their meals indoors, but enjoy the outdoor BBQ and wonderful local dining establishments. We were not aware of the spills in the burner trays, so we now know to look for the need to replace them more often. The garbage disposal had stopped working during a previous guest's stay, but we were not made aware of this at the time of their departure. It has been replaced with a new one. The kitchen drawers and cupboards have new trays and/or pull-out basket systems to allow for better access. The wifi router was replaced in January 2015. The washer/dryer are in the basement, as stated in the property listing. BBQ grills, bikes, and many metals do rust, especially at the beach -- and we do try to replace them on a regular basis. There are bikes in the basement and lobster pots in the kitchen that are not rusted. The pogo sticks, sadly, are gone :( There are clean beach chairs and the damaged window screen has been replaced. We found that two of the 3 smoke detectors were in fact in working order. The third was replaced. We regret the experience this reviewer had with our cottage. We hope, in the future, to always provide a pleasurable stay to all our guests. If you will be staying at our cottage and find anything not acceptable or representative of our descriptions please let us know as soon as possible. We always provide contact information for more than one family member and will respond as soon as possible to your needs.
