Affectionately referred to as "the happy house" by family and friends, this sweet 5-bedroom mid-century modern home has been expanded and updated over the years to include many luxurious amenities, such as: a heated lap pool with a bubbling spa and cascading waterfall (open in the summer only); an expansive blue stone patio that wraps around the pool and includes a grilling area, outdoor dining table, and comfortable lounge seating with cushioned armchairs and a couch; a separate pool house with a bedroom, full bathroom and living/dining/kitchenette with cathedral ceilings and 2 sets of sliding glass doors that open onto the pool area; and a master bedroom suite that encompasses the entire second floor of the main house and includes a king bed, breakfast bar, entertainment center, sitting area, private deck, and luxurious marble bathroom with a jacuzzi tub for two, double sinks, walk-in shower and separate toilet room with a bidet. Original features of the main house include a sunken living room with a wall of windows, baby grand piano, and a wood-burning fireplace (open in the winter only); a solarium-style "music room" (complete with hand drums and other instruments); and an open floor plan that is further enhanced by interior picture windows that allow light to flow between the kitchen, dining area, and TV room. The TV room (with a wood-burning fire stove) opens onto a 3-season porch with walls of windows that overlook the pool and waterfall.
In addition to the master bedroom suite on the second floor, there are 3 bedrooms on the first floor of the main house: one with a king bed (which separates into 2 twins, if necessary); another with a twin bed (with a trundle); and a third with a full bed. The third bedroom also has a private bathroom (with a jacuzzi tub), access to an office, and sliding glass doors that lead to the back yard.
The back yard is fenced on 3 sides, but open to natural forest in the back. Two sets of jungle gyms are set up on the grass and available for children to play. Pool toys and floats are also provided.
The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, and is ideally suited for families and friends to gather and relax (hence the name "happy house"). With such a variety of indoor/outdoor spaces to choose from (breezy porch, sunny music room, elegant living room, cozy TV room, private deck, cushioned outdoor furniture for lounging under umbrellas or in the sun, jetted spa for soaking, or refreshing pool for swimming), it's easy to spread out and come together as you wish. The fully-equipped kitchen is ideal for preparing snacks and meals*, which may be served at the breakfast bar, dining area (seats 10), or outdoor table.
We suspect you will not want to leave the house once you get settled, but should you choose to explore the area, the village of Woodstock is just minutes away. You can walk to the Village Green at the center of town, where you'll find galleries and boutiques, restaurants and cafes, theaters and clubs. Or you can explore the surrounding Catskill Mountain Park, which is full of scenic drives and hiking trails. Other area attractions include the Hudson Valley to the east, with artsy riverfront towns and historic mansions, and the high peaks of the Catskills (and ski slopes) to the west. NYC is just 2 hours south, and easily accessible by bus with daily service between Port Authority and the Woodstock Village Green (no car needed for guests from NYC!).

Our multigenerational family rented this house for the month of July and it was the perfect place for our summer vacation. We used the house for long weekends and some full weeks. Our group consisted of 3 couples: grandparents, married children, and 3 young grandchildren. the house is well located near the town of Woodstock and has beautiful mountain views. The house was immaculate and well supplied. It was a big plus that we had air conditioning as we hit a stretch of very hot and humid weather. Another great feature is that there are multiple living areas which works really well with larger groups. The house also has an amazing stereo system with a huge collection of CDs.
The heated pool and patio were fabulous both for hanging out and relaxing for the afternoon, or for a quick dip after a day of hiking. In addition, there were 2 play houses in the back yard with slides and swings that were perfect for our 5 and 6 year old grandchildren.
Judy, the house manager was extremely nice and very helpful. She met us on arrival to show us around and she was very prompt in responding to any questions we had.
This was our second summer in Woodstock, and this house was perfect for exploring the area or spending the day the pool. The Woodstock area had so much to offer for all of us. There are many trails for hiking, the Woodstock Animal Sanctuary was great for the kids as was the water park in East Durham. There are lots of farmer's markets or you can pick your own at some farms. We enjoyed music at the Maverick, and at Bard Summerscape, and took the kids to the Woodstock Playhouse for Beauty and the Beast. ALthough we barbecued at the house most of the time, the restaurants in the area were also excellent.
I would highly recommend this house everything about it was perfect, we had great time and hope to go back next summer.
I've had the pleasure of staying here in warm and winter months. But there's something about visiting Woodstock during the winter that is always magical. This home is a short walk / drive to the center of town. But the home is also enough of a destination to never leave! You can look out at the snow covered mountains, while relaxing by the fireplace in the living room. Or sip a drink in the roomy stone hot tub, while it snows overhead. The home is neat, the kitchen is well stocked, and the rooms comfortable. Can't wait to return!
Our family has visited Woodstock many times over the last 40 years and have stayed in a variety of places, from bed & breakfasts, to hotels, motels and private homes. This is my favorite by far. The location is ideal for several reasons: it's walking distance from town; it's quiet without being secluded; and, the view of the mountains from the living room is magnificent. We spent lots of time gathered in the spacious living room where, besides the view, we enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace after our days of skiing (for some) or enjoying the town. The last time we visited, we came with 3 families consisting of 3 couples of parents and 8 children ranging in age from 6 to 13 and we settled into the house with ease.
The house is spacious and immaculately kept and the local manager was always available to answer questions. With the size of our group it was great that the kitchen was so well laid out and easy to work in (usually for more than one cook at a time). The big driveway and parking area right in front of the house accommodated all our cars. The only drawback to the house that I can think of is the long flight of steps up from the driveway. One car can pull up to the sun room on the right side of the house and then there are only a couple of steps to go up. I wonderfulsuggest bringing your bags in by that door.
Three of us rented this huge house for a relaxing stay in late September. The property was beautiful and rooms spacious/clean. The kitchen is stocked with everything you'd need to cook. And the backyard area is gorgeous. Judy, the caretaker, provided us everything we needed. Cannot wait to return!
Woodstock is one of our favorite Hudson Valley towns, particularly in the fall and winter months. The town itself is full of shops and restaurants, and the surrounding mountains provide ample opportunities for hikes and walks of all types. This house is in a perfect location to walk to town for brunch or yoga or head to the mountains for some fresh air, but it also has plenty of amenities and space to be comfortable staying put. We are usually there with a large group and this house is big enough to accommodate us and has plenty of private spaces to for some alone quiet time, but small enough to feel intimate. The hot tub is incredible in the winter, especially after a day of hiking. And the kitchen is a perfect lay-out for cooking together. Highly recommend for a relaxing low-key getaway.
The house is beautiful, the location ideal, and Judy is a pleasure to work with. We came for a long weekend and wished we'd booked a week. We cooked in the large, modern kitchen, relaxed by the (two!) fireplaces, hiked on nearby trails, and enjoyed the adorable town, just a 10-minute walk away from the house. The master suite is totally luxurious. We can't wait to return with friends to make the most of this incredible home!
