House is located near North Carolina - Virginia border about 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. For those interested in wine and viticulture, Chateau Morrisette, Virginia's largest winery, and Villa Appalachia are within five miles of the property. Chateau Morrisette features musical festival throughout the summer, as well as free Sunday concerts on the grounds. No trip would be complete without a Friday night in Floyd. The Country Store is alive with flat footing and bluegrass bands form in the alleys and on corners. It is a must see.
Experience nature's gradeur from the expansive deck with it's long views. Spring is showy with Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron, summer abounds with the flowery garden and aviary acrobatics and fall is spectacular as color drifts down the mountains side.
Get out in nature with easy walks from the Parkway like Smart View or stroll down the well worn path beside in Rock Castle Gorge. An exhilarating hike to Buffalo Mountain (once owned by the Robet E. and Harry Lighthorse Lee's family) can be made on a well graded trail leading to the almost 4000 foot peak and expansive 360 degree view.
Visit Fairy Stone Lake and experience the only place to find the mystical Fairy Stone or sink your hook in the Keibler Valley for mountain trout. Bike the Virginia Creeper Trail, Galax Trail or Blue Ridge Parkway. Raft the Dan River and experience the Zip Line nearby. This area has it all.
Golfers, take a swing at Primland's Highland Course rated by Golf Digest as the best new public course in 2006. Add Olde Mills Golf Resort and Great Oaks in Floyd, all within 15 miles of the house.

We're a North Carolina guy and a Kentucky girl who lives in Florida and has a beautiful home in Virginia. And yes, I have done the impossible and converted a Kentucky girl to a Tar Heel basketball fan.
Bill Day purchased this house in 2005
While dating, we visited a Christmas Tree farm in Meadows of Dan and loved it. We decided to get married there and in looking for a minister, we also looked for land. We wanted long range views and finally found a lot in Edgeview Estates just off Belcher Mountain Road.
In 2005, I was hating my job and decided to try one more backpacking trip. Went to the Smokies and came out with a couple of days left on my vacation. I decided to go up to our lot and take a sunrise picture that I could put in my office to keep my spirits up. I drove in early one morning and set up the tripod and waited for the sun. It was okay, but not a trophy shot. Packed everything up and headed back up Belcher mountain. Between my comings and goings, someone had put a for sale sign in front of Laurel Point.
I met the owners at the house and it was a glorious day. I think I could see Canada. I was known as a fierce negotiator but I was putty in their hands. I knew I had to have that house. They came down a little and I offered them my sweaty handshake. It takes nerves to buy a house without your new bride having seen it. Obviously all is well that ends well.
We decided that the worst thing we could do with the house is just let it sit there. We're 11 hours away and are lucky to visit 2 or 3 times a year. So far we have had excellent guests and feel good about sharing our house.
Hope you come and visit. It's beautiful during the spring, cool in the summer and spectacular in the fall. Notice I didn't mention winter. A little too cool for this Tar Heel converted Floridian.
Backpacked for over 30 years and the view from the deck is in my top five favorites in the Southern Appalachians .
From Guest Book: Bill and Mary, your dream house is fantastic. The place has
wonderful amenities and rooms that are so spacious and sereene - and so
comfortable. We loved the deck and the spectacular view. I'd come back any
time of year knowing it would be beautiful. We did the local sites. "Oddfellas"
on a Friday night is a must. Thanks so much. We hope to return. (I shall
return). P.S. When I first got here I slept dreaming the usual mixed-up, lost,
frenetic dreams. After a few serene days and nights I dreamt sweet, happy
We loved our stay here. The house is beautiful, the view is amazing... the picture of it does not do it justice. The house was fully supplied, from paper towels to Netflix. The owner is very accommodating, nice and helpful.
We enjoyed this beautiful home with two other couples for a week of exploring, hiking, shopping and eating. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The home was fully equipped and the spacious layout was very conducive for large gatherings around the open concept kitchen, dining and living room. Each couple had their our own over-sized bedroom and private bathroom affording privacy and comfort. The real bonus though was the enormous multi-leveled back deck with its breathtaking views--perfect for wine sipping and visiting. Plenty of site seeing around Meadows of Dan and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Floyd is also a must on a Friday night for music lovers. We are looking forward to our next visit.
This spacious home filled with charm is rooted in one the best mountain locations to yield a wonderous view. The size of the estate begs you to bring a few friends along and share some good times and adventures. The surrounding area is filled with outing opportunities to get some excersize or spend some money on local foods and memorabilia. If your a motorcycle rider and you don't bring your ride here, you will experience some slight pains every time you see someone else gliding along the mountain roads.
The house and amenities are without flaw, and the owner is very generous to give us access to things like his linens and various cookware. The view is immaculate (photos really don't do it justice). The active ones in our group really enjoyed the close proximity to Rocky Knob. We were able to wander off the trails and hike up a mountain with our own approach because most of the overgrowth was dead. I would highly recommend the house to anyone, even if they aren't the outdoorsy/hiking type.
We have stayed at Laurel Point for many years in a row. It's a wonderful location for us to meet up with close friends and enjoy time together. The house is spacious with room for our families with children. We spend hours in the kitchen preparing meals for each other, sampling local wines, and enjoying the view from the deck. We have visited the house in the winter for New Years and late summer. The view is just as stunning in the winter! If you go in mid-winter, a four wheel or all-wheel vehicle is handy just in case there is any winter weather on the country roads. Or extend your stay until the roads thaw and enjoy the house! There are great hikes close to the house for all seasons. On each visit we have found something new in the area. We are continually surprised to find new and exciting places to explore. The kids love spending most of their time outdoors on hikes or watching the butterflies in the garden at the house. We always visit the Floyd Country Store to hear the local music and talk with the locals. Laurel Point is a peaceful retreat into the country and the perfect setting for our reunions with friends and family.
Before we arrived, I was convinced the view would be nice, but I thought the pictures were probably exceptional days or a great angle...I was wrong. It really does just look that beautiful. Honestly, it's better in person. Huge house with a great layout. Nice to not need to bring linens/towels. Close to Chateau Morisette and Villa Appalaccia winery (both great!). I can't recommend tubing on the river ("on the water" Floyd) enough...so relaxing! Great house, great location, great views, great owner!
My only warnings: being urban dwellers the late night friends (giant bugs) outside at night freaked me out. During the day the hummingbirds made up for it though. I had to adjust to "nature" :)
Also, use the tiny Apple remote for Apple TV or bring DVDs if you like tv in the evening!
