We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in beautiful Montemagno. The apartment is well appointed and the location is perfect for visiting Pisa, the beaches, Tuscany, and the Cinque Terre. Nicoletta is a wonderful hostess!
This apartment is in a great location looking up to the church and down at the surrounding hills. We met Nicolette a short way down the hill and she came up with us to let us in. She was really friendly, although communication was limited by our lack of Italian and her limited English. She had left some olive oil, lemons and eggs for us, and the (savoury) breakfast we ordered for the next day was delicious (bread, cold meat, cheeses) and so much it actually lasted for two days. There was also wine in the apartment, with a price list. Everything was clean and well maintained, and there was a table and chairs outside on the patio for eating, as well as lounge chairs to enjoy the sun and view.
Montemagno has a good restaurant and small grocery. Nearby Calci has a lot more choice, while Pisa is only about 20 minutes away. We were very pleasantly surprised by Pisa, which is so much more than the leaning tower (though that is spectacular).
While our stay was wonderful, I've given the property four stars rather than five for two reasons: (1) the inside was comfortable but a bit small and dark, so not very inviting if it had been raining - as it was the following week when we were staying somewhere else; and (2) the road through town is incredibly narrow, so at peak holiday times it might be a challenge to drive up and down (though there is a car park at the bottom of the hill).
