I am an artist. My wife and I have been married for over 20 years and raised our family in Michigan.
Kyle and Betsy purchased this house in 2011
We have been enjoying the Leelanau area for many years. It is easy to get to, has amazing beaches for walking and rock collecting, clear water for swimming and sailing, and quaint towns to explore. We love to visit in all seasons.
We purchased this 2nd home so we could enjoy the leelanau area year round. We fell in love with this house the moment we stepped onto the deck and experienced the breathtaking view. We love the secluded beaches for walking and the numerous hiking trails.
We are a family of five including three teenagers ranging from 5'4" to 6'3". We've learned that renting a home is more comfortable and affordable than two rooms or a suite at a hotel or resort. For our trip to Leelanau area, Cedar Cabin was the perfect accommodation. Four bedrooms, a master suite and wireless broadband ensured all had a getaway spot when needed. Everything was functional, well maintained and clean for our arrival. All linens are included and the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and silverwear. The cupboards included a shelf of interesting spices, and above the coffee maker the fixin's for the morning's brew. We left some coffee beans for the next guests. Hint: use the hand grinder for a more even grind!
The cabin is located about half way between Cedar, Glen Arbor and Leland ensuring civilization was less than 30 mins away. We spend a day climbing sleeping bear dunes (30 min drive), another kayaking the Platte (40 min drive) and a couple more exploring the parks, lighthouses and wineries of Mission and Leelanau peninsulas. Each was a comfortable day trip allowing for lazy mornings and return for sunset.
Speaking of sunset: The deck is guarded by a gargoyle we named "Hank", and offers spectacular views of Little Traverse Lake and Lake Michigan featuring North Manitou Island. We even caught the kids sneaking out to the deck to enjoy the view without the lure of s'mores at the fire pit.
If circumstances permit would we return? Absolutely!
This house was a great place to relax after a busy day exploring all northern Michigan has to offer. The sunset views were spectacular and we loved the deck. The house had plenty of room for our large family, and was well stocked with everything you could need. I would definitely recommend spending your vacation there!
We certainly enjoyed our time at this lovely home. The view was amazing and the house very charming! All of our family were awed when they walked into the kitchen area and looked out onto the deck, even my 16-year-old grandson said "wow " when he walked in. Now that 's saying a lot for a teen-aged boy! The house is well-furnished with lots of room to spread out. Photos don't do it justice. We appreciated having the sun porch, where the grandkids ate several times and played games. The two youngest (11 and 12) especially enjoyed the ping pong table and darts in the basement. We spent several nights out on the deck with a fire in the fire pit. Also appreciated how clean and well-maintained the home is.
We stayed her in mid-July and had a wonderful time. Everything is as advertised in the listing, only better! It is a nice house, clean, and has everything you need in a location that can't be beat. The view must be seen to be appreciated, especially over the course of a week in different lighting conditions. I would definitely come back during any time of year.
The only thing I would change about the house would be to swap one of the queen beds for a pair of fulls, but that's just for the group we had. I would recommend this cottage to just about anyone.
We had an amazing week at this home. The pictures really don't prepare you for how beautiful the view is. The homeowners were fantastic to work with and their home is truly comfortable. We had everything we needed to cook meals and it was a good central location to all of the activities we did. We had a group ranging in age from 6 to 60 and everyone had a blast. The Ping pong table and the fire pit were a big hit.
We gathered in Cedar for a family reunion. The listing description and the photos only begin to entice you to rent this property. You have to experience all it's charms to realize what a great time you have in store. The house, yard and neighborhood are well maintained and groomed. Days start with sunrise on the deck with coffee in hand to plan the activities for the day. So much is close by - hikes through the woods or on the beach, a stroll around a nearby town to poke in galleries or grab a freshly baked pie, running through Sleeping Bear sand dunes, wine tasting at a local vineyard, fresh corn from the local farm stand or a swim in Lake Michigan. My favorite was rock collecting. The variety of colors is amazing. The jackpot are the Petoskey stones which are petrified coral and used in jewelry. There wasn't enough time to do everything so we'll set a date to return. No question, I will recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable, relaxing getaway!
