We live and work in Baltimore. We love the beach and fell in love with Chintoteague on visits in the early 1980s. We never get tired of hiking on Asseteague or boating the many creeks and channels surrounding Chincoteague with our two dogs.
Peter Devreotes purchased this house in 1988
We finally choose to buy the property on this beautiful site in 1988. It is one of the most protected harbors on the island with deep water at the dock and all the way to the inlet. We especially love the Southeast views. We have extensively renovated the house and added a second floor.
We like being able to ride our bikes to the Wildlife Refuge, then spend the afternoon at the beach or on an ocean fishing trip, and then visit the quaint downtown Chincoteague and restaurants all in one day.
The house is really too big for the two of us but we appreciate the space when we have family and friends over. Everyone can be together on the upper or lower deck or at the 10 ft table in the great room or spread out as they wish.
We have been staying at the Brittney for several summers now. We never feel a need to look elsewhere because this is the best! The bedrooms (4) are spacious and there are plenty of convenient bathrooms, including an outside shower. The master bedroom has a master suite bathroom, complete with jetted tub! Right outside the master bedroom is a spacious loft/family TV area and there is a bed and a pull out couch in the loft too. Perfect for kids who want to be close to their parents but maintain privacy too! The kitchen and living area is very spacious- an open concept which is great when you are all hanging out together. There is a nice sundeck as well.
The balcony and deck are great for outside activities and relaxation. The backyard is spacious and the dock is perfect for crabbing, fishing, canoeing, or just enjoying the views. My kids can spend hours out there. The house is in a private location but close to all the conveniences as well. The kids can safely ride their bikes around town and even bike to the beach. It is only 10 minutes to get to the beach when driving and close by there is a grocery store, mini putt-putt, movie theater, stores for supplies and more! At night the view of the stars and lighthouse is magical and if you like the lighthouse you can climb it all the way to the top and see a wonderful view! All our family can say is that you will love and not regret renting this house!
We stayed here over Thanksgiving for 5 nights (and lucked out with the most amazing weather we could've hoped for). We had 7 people--5 adults and 2 kids. We all loved the home. The kitchen (very important for Thanksgiving) was fantastic. It had everything we needed to cook a Thanksgiving meal. It was also large and modern. The large dining table had more than enough seating for all of us. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The decks were awesome--spacious and with great views--we got up nearly every morning to watch the sunrise. The yard was nice and large and flat (although, it would have been nice if the lawn had been mowed...the kids wanted to play soccer but the grass was super long). The dock was spectacular and the view from the end of the dock (particularly in the mornings and evenings) was stunning. The house comes with crab traps and a canoe (be sure to ask for them to be made available prior to arriving). We asked that the canoe be available. However, one small complaint was that although the canoe was there for us to use, they left the oars locked in the garage (the property manager--who is super responsive--came and got them out for us) and there were no life vests. We couldn't take the kids out on the canoe because we didn't have life vests. Sort of a bummer. Lastly, it was an inconvenience that the house does not come with linens and towels (unless you want to pay $200 extra). We flew in from various parts of the country, and bringing sheet sets and towels was sort of annoying. For this type of rental property, I firmly believe linens and towels should be part of the rental. However, it obviously didn't stop us for booking this house, and I'm very glad it didn't.
Overall, however, our stay here was amazing. One of the best trips we've taken together. We all enthusiastically agreed that we would absolutely return to Chincoteague and to this house again!
Our family -- 12 of us, including 5 children, several grandparents, brothers, nieces, etc -- spent four really wonderful and very happy days at this perfectly appointed, bright, and welcoming house. There was lots of space indoors (living room and kitchen and den areas and dining) and out (two decks, great back yard, and fantastic long pier/dock with crab traps and canoe) for us to feel relaxed, comfortable, and somehow getting a sense that we were being cared for. We loved the setting on the bay (beautiful sunrise and stars at night), which gave a sense of calm and connection to nature. The pier/dock was a constant draw with children and adults alike, as was the canoe. What a great surprise! The house was uncluttered and tastefully furnished and perfectly laid out to assure privacy for the many guests. The upstairs master bedroom is fantastic, with its own deck and jacuzzi bathtub! Finally, the house was situated in the most beautiful part of the island, close enough to the center but somewhat set off in a more quiet and residential area. Because we ate at least two meals a day, our only suggestion would be a dishwasher... We would -- will! -- definitely return because we stayed in another very nice home on (the large) Oyster Bay for another week, but it did not even compare!
Beautiful home.Clean, spacious and fun. The views were spectacular! Family reunion spent here and everyone had a great time. Weather was a bit cooler than usual (6/14-6/18). Look forward to staying again only longer.Very private. The sunrise/sunset's were amazing. Great property to relax and enjoy nature. Thank you!
