Overview

Charlottesville House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Serpentine Studio is a beautiful and quiet two room studio apartment located in the historic Woolen Mills neighborhood. It is part of our 1830's brick home and is located only one mile from downtown Charlottesville and two miles from the University of Virginia (both can easily accessed by the nearby city bus line).

As a part of our property we offer a private dock with a hammock and deck chair overlooking the Rivanna River, a perfect spot to relax and watch the wildlife. The river setting offers a unique, peaceful environment where one is able to step back from the business of life, while simultaneously remaining close to the center of town. Our house is located near the Rivanna River Trail which winds along the river for 12 miles and offers wonderful opportunities for biking, hiking, birdwatching, and the possibilities of canoeing and fishing.

The studio apartment has its own entrance, and is beautifully renovated with heart pine floors and exposed brick walls. There is an adjacent breakfast room overlooking the river with a water cooker, coffee maker and small refrigerator. We provide tea, coffee, and a basic breakfast for your convenience. Both rooms are decorated with original artwork. The owner's nearby sculpture studio offers an artistic setting with sculptures in progress as well as original artwork placed throughout the house and extensive backyard. The bathroom has a shower and an antique clawfoot bath tub.

Please note this apartment is accessed by stairs, therefor it is not recommended to guests with mobility problems.

About The Owner

I am Swedish and my husband is from Los Angeles. We have lived in Charlottesville for the past 25 years and love it. I work as a sculptor and an art instructor but have always dreamt of running a bed and breakfast. Now that our daughter has moved out, the lower part of the house is empty and I am excited to share our great house and yard with our guests.

We still travel extensively but when we are at home we are looking forward to meet our guests.

The Owner purchased this house in 1995

Why The Owner chose Charlottesville

Our property is close to downtown and the University but is still situated in a country setting. Our back yard opens up to the Rivanna River where we have a dock and there are miles of walking trails along the river. It is a quiet romantic setting as you sit in a dock chair at dusk sometimes spotting the Bald Eagles that live down the river.

What makes this house unique

The character and ambiance of this house is priceless. It was built in the 1830's and we have brought out the beauty of the original building materials, exposed brick walls and beautiful heart pine floors. As and an artist there is a lot of art in my life and you will find and abundance of original art in the rental property and around the yard.

Great Charlottesville Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This very nice suite is in an old home in a upcoming section of Charlottesville. The interior of the unit is comfortable and it is clear everywhere through the decor that the owner is an artist! And then to be able to walk a short walk down to a dock on the Rivanna River in the evening to watch the geese, ducks and cranes was such a perfect way to end a day of touring.

Comfortable apt on the river

  • 3 of 5

The apt is as pictured and the fruit, yoghurt, juice, coffee/tea are a very welcome addition. Providing three stars only because the stairs, lighting and shower/tub would make it difficult for people with mobility issues. Otherwise, no complaints!

Cozy studio apt.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay, the studio is very comfortable, clean and charming. Everything you could want in a VRBO rental....I would highly recommend and would stay there again. Wouldn't suggest for anyone who needs an accessible place, as it is a little tricky getting down the stairs, etc.

Cozy, artsy,apartment on the river

  • 5 of 5

Loved it! This apartment was exactly as pictured. It is a charming place full of the owner's beautiful sculptures. The bedroom is full of character and the kitchen/living space was stocked with fruit cereal milk juice and coffee. The property backs up to the Rivanna River and had a nice overlook. I would definitely recommend it to friends traveling to Charlottesville. (Stairs are required.)

Great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed with two other women for 2 nights. It was a lovely place to be- quiet, private- we loved the river view. The makings of coffee and breakfast were provided, as were all-important wine glasses and a corkscrew! The A/C unit worked great. We really enjoyed our stay.

Charming and comfortable in historic district

  • 5 of 5

Big thanks to Ninni and Bill for a fantastic stay. The unit is super-charming with a big comfy bedroom (and a great air conditioner since it was SO HOT when we were there!). The living/breakfast room has a gorgeous view out to the huge lawn/garden down to the river. We saw deer every day and one day even saw a beaver in the yard! So lush and green...a lovely walk thru the garden to the river where there are chairs and a hammock for relaxing and enjoying (we particularly loved sunset down there). Serpentine Studio is very close to Monticello (which was a highlight) and downtown/UVA area is not far. All in all, we loved Charlottesville and the fantastic neighborhood where we stayed. Highly recommended.

Step outside the door and there are miles and miles of walking trails, many along the Rivanna River.

Within 2 miles there are at least 25 restaurants, many of them great.

Visit the University of Virginia, designed by Thomas Jefferson, it has a beautiful campus
