Grand Rapids House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-9)

Early mornings are best spent sipping coffee on the lakeside log swing listening to the loons. The sandy shore with the gentle slope into the lake is fun for all. With luck... fresh fish for lunch! Evenings on the porch give one a beautiful view of the lake. Memories with family and friends are created sitting around the fireplace or the fire ring near the lake in the evenings.

The open plan allows for all to enjoy being together. There is also a side room when you need a place to relax and read. A kitchen counter with four stools make it fun to serve a snack and there is a dining table that can seat eight. Downstairs bedroom with ensuite includes both a walk- in shower and separate bathtub. Second floor bedroom has charming slanted eaves in the ceiling and a bathroom just next door. This bathroom has a shower and can share with the futon couch (sleeps 1-2) in the main room loft. Another futon couch (sleeps 1-2) is in a side room downstairs and has its own toilet and sink nearby.

Large parking area allows easily for boat or snowmobile trailers and all vehicles to park conveniently with short staircase down to the house.

Looking for a place to relax and enjoy a good book or watch TV inside and a wonderful lake outside? This is it. Get away from everything and enjoy cool summer breezes, beautiful fall colors, winter activities and spring flowers.

About Jenny Winkelman

We are international school teachers. From Alaska, we have taught overseas for many years. We travel a lot, but our Bass Lake cabin is our favorite place in the world!

Jenny Winkelman purchased this house in 2009

Why Jenny Winkelman chose Minnesota

We love the combination of peace and quiet, interrupted by the call of the loons up north! Grand Rapids also offers sporting, shopping and theater offerings to enjoy as well. There are beautiful drives to take in the area and fun sightseeing. The views of the lake from the house are super.

What makes this house unique

We like to 'get away from it,' but when needed, can have internet and tv access! This is the place to enjoy family charades, game of cards with friends and get books read! The lake is excellent for fishing and water sports. A full kitchen offers the possibility of simple or gourmet cooking or baking, with a barbecue on the porch.

Relaxing Bass Lake

  • 4 of 5

The property was well clean, well maintain, and the pictures of the house inside and out were accurate. Inside the house was very tasteful in decor and very clean. We did not see the property manager all week, but had access to him by cell phone, if we needed his assistant. Easy access to the lake with a flat ground and a beautiful new dock to go on to your boat. The house was not far from Grand Rapids less than 20 minutes away to get groceries or just to visit shops. The lake was nice size not too large and had islands to fish around as well as a natural shore line with many lily pads and reeds for bass to hide. Bass lake was large enough for jet skis and tubing, if you are interested, but also many quiet places for fishing and enjoying nature. Many times we saw the Bald Eagles fly over the lake as well as other variety of birds such as lake heron, ducks, and those beautiful haunting sounds of the loons. In addition, the beautiful hummingbirds and a Baltimore Oriole visited their feeder on their large deck. We would of given it 5 stars, if the appliances and furniture were updated. The couch, love seat, and chair look nice, but the seat cushions were not firm so it was hard to get out of as well as the major appliances in the kitchen were old such as the stove had to be unplug every time we cook because an error code kept coming on. We cook so that is something important to us. Finally, the bed mattress in the main bedroom was saggy and not firm at all so it needs to be replace.

Great time enjoyed by all

  • 5 of 5

The weather was great all week and so were the accommodations. My family enjoyed everything about the home, the ability to hook up to wifi for movies during some downtime in the evenings and staying connected to the real world. We will go back in a heart beat and plan to do that.

Great multi-species fishing location and great family spot as well.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay and we enjoyed ourselves even though the weather wasn't as warm as we would have liked. You'll find bluegills, smallmouth bass, pike and walleye all a short distance from the dock. The flat yard makes a great play space when you are not fishing or swimming. The property managers are good communicators and responsive to needs that come up during your stay. We highly recommend the forestry museum nearby as well.

Beautiful Log Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This northern Minnesota log home on Bass Lake is gorgeous. The widows provide a beautiful view of the lake. The living room, dining room, kitchen area is open and makes for great entertaining. Everything was managed very well. I am another HomeAway owner with a property in Florida so I was curious to see how someone else managed their property. I was very happy and would definitely come back.

The perfect oasis for a long retreat from a busy city

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for almost three weeks and really can't say enough good about the house, the amenities, the views, the location ... everything! An unexpected bonus was the multiple amazing hiking opportunities and interesting sites within a short drive of the house, as well as quiet walks right out the front door. We went on an adventure 18 of the 19 days we stayed there and didn't exhaust all the possibilities!

The house is very well taken care of, so we were not lacking for anything we needed. The well-equipped kitchen made it easy to cook up a storm and do some baking too! The outdoor fire pit made for relaxing evenings under the stars, even as the nights started to get pretty cold. The house is so bright and spacious that even on the one rainy day, we were able to enjoy the outdoors through the huge windows looking out over the lake.

Really, I can't see enough good about the house! Loved it and hope to return someday for a whole month.
