This three-story 1894 mansion has been fully restored to its original splendor. The downstairs features a huge gourmet catering kitchen, dining room, library and parlor with two original fireplaces and a panoramic view from its bay windows of the lighted Centennial Bridge and the mighty Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa.
Hand-painted vaulted “sunrise” ceiling and hand-carved grand staircase for spectacular debuts of blushing brides for all guests to see. 2nd Floor features a huge landing and four bedrooms complete with four complete baths. The master bedroom makes a perfect place for the bride and her maids to prepare because there is an additional connected parlor. This leaves four spare rooms for the groom and family members.
Once featured in the “Save this Old House” section of This Old House Magazine, this house has had a wonderful history. We’ve replaced or restored all hardwood floors, moldings, leaded windows, light fixtures, tiled entryway and marble fireplaces using local artisans and craftsmen. Period antiques have been gathered and refurbished to exactly complement the mansion. The spectacular entryway frescoes were discovered under layers of paint and have been meticulously restored. Seven different complementary colors highlight the intricate details of the exterior of the house surrounded by attractive landscaping.
Restoring this house has been our dream and has taken us years to complete but we are finally ready to welcome you to our home.

Adolph Priester House
The Priester house at 811 7th Street is now ready-fully restored and available for rental. This is the house we stay in when we are in Davenport, Iowa, and we consider it our home. It is equally as nice as the Witt house (The House listed on VRBO), and is actually larger - one more bedroom, plus the 3rd floor suite which can accommodate four people. I love it because the master bedroom is on the first floor and there is a separate tub and shower in the en suite bath as well as another full bath on the first floor. The dining room is much larger, and the kitchen is larger also, although only one stove, not two. The downstairs living room is a little smaller, but there is a big family room-parlor on the second floor. Of course, several TV’s and wi-fi is available. Not so much off street parking, but ample for 3 cars because you can use the driveway of the house next door (817 7th Street) which we own as well, but have not yet finished restoring. It is a wonderful Queen Anne and actually Sandy’s favorite.

We are a family of restorers. We love old houses and when we drove through Davenport on the way to the World's Fair in 1964, we vowed that one day we would come back and buy a mansion. Little did we know that it would be a 'Save This Old House' 40 years later! It has been a labor of love and at times we wondered if we would ever finish! Every molding has been stripped or recreated, pocket doors discovered, chandeliers tracked down in other cities, hardware sleuthed on eBay. We've taught ourselves to restore tile, recreate original stencils and we painted the vaulted 'sunset sky' ceiling lying on our backs on a 30-foot scaffold. It has all been worth it!
Lois and Maurice Woods purchased this estate in 2006
It had always been our dream to restore a mansion on the Mississippi. The friendly open welcome of our Iowa neighbors has been warm and inviting. We feel we have come home to the Heartland. Saving this gem from destruction has been incredibly satisfying. We've met wonderful neighbors and feel as though we have given something back to our community by reviving this piece of local charm.
Travel back 120 years to a time when you would have arrived down at the dock by steamboat or down at the station by steam locomotive. Enjoy a trip back in time while enjoying all the amenities of the present.
This is a wonderful party or family reunion house. This house is just a short walk to the Mississippi river with its restaurants and casinos or to the Palmer Chiropractic College.
Hi, just wanted to see if you had availability a weekend of April. Stayed with you a couple of years ago and loved it.
As one who loves history and architecture, this house was a feast for my eyes. We were in the area for a convention and it was a great place to gather on breaks and at the end of the day. We had fourteen people. Very comfortable!
My rather large extended family rented Priester House for Christmas last year. It was perfect! Although it's large (6+ bedrooms) it felt very cozy and warm. We plan to celebrate Christmas there again this year.
My husband, friends and I stayed in this lavish, well appointed home over the summer 2015. Located in Davenport's "Gold Coast" historic area, the pictures simply do not do this home justice. It is impeccably decorated from the portraits of the previous owners to the hand painted frescoes, fabulous drapes and period furniture - you will basking in history and luxury.
All guests agreed the bedrooms were comfortable and well done. The kitchen, with copper sinks and granite counters was a joy. The details of this house are just too many to name here. You should go, stay there, and thank me later.
While we were there, we walked downtown to fabulous restaurants and spent mornings walking the beautiful riverfront.
The owners of this property were a delight to work with and so very accommodating.
We had not been to Davenport in 20 years. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked for Summer 2016!
we rented both this house and the Priester house for a wedding gathering. had family members from WI and ME. everything was perfect! loved having all the private bedrooms and bathrooms. we had a rehersal dinner at priester with over 30 guests and were able to use the china and the large kitchen. It was all perfect! Only complaint is we wished Davenport had recycling bins.
The family that owns this house that sleeps 10-12 had another house just around the corner that sleeps 16. So that's the Victorian that we stayed in. It was large and spacious and had perfect time period decorations and furniture. Every room had a bathroom. There was a huge table to seat our guests at and two seating areas, one with a tv and cable. Unfortunately, since it was so miserably cold, the heat didn't actually warm the house until the second day, but the owners had space heaters brought in.
The house was not the cleanest, but it was definitely not dirty. With an old house it's hard to keep everything dusted. But, one would think with a large cleaning fee, that it would be spotless.
The backyard view was lovely, looking down on the Mississippi River and bridge.
The original house that is listed is just as beautiful, but more updated and decorated. If you're looking to house a lot of people, then these two houses are recommended.
We rented "other house" around and the corner and it worked out very well. It had a nice view of the bridge across the Mississippi. Each of the four couples could choose their own bedroom and bath. The kitchen, dining room, and TV room were all large and comfortable. I loved the house's Victorian character. It was a great place to hang out.
Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities-hub of industry and commerce within 2 short hours of Chicago.
