About The Owners: We are from Oregon. We love our Ocean, but prefer more sun. After visiting Hawaii several times, we discovered how invigorated we were by the Sunny Leeward side of Oahu. The surf at Makaha Beach can be calm and fun place to play or have dangerous waves that are so interesting to watch as surfers brave the immense waves. Recently, we tried Paddle Boarding at Po'Kai Beach while turtles and dolphins played right next to the surf board. We have many hikes and bicycle rides left to do in the Makaha area. We love the Saturday Morning Market (get there early), pick up fresh vegetables, fish for dinner, and coffee for breakfast . The Waianae Area feels like old Hawaii. We hope you will enjoy Makaha Valley Plantation as much as we do! Mark and Christina, Eugene, Oregon.

Why the Owner Chose Makaha: We wanted to be 'off the beaten path'. We had spent time in a small village south of Puerto Vallarto, Mexico for a number of years, but we found that there were too many obstacles to really get to know the people and the culture. But living in Makaha, life is pretty quiet but you can still get into Honolulu within 1 hour. Ko'Olina, 20 minutes provides wonderful swimming lagoon and and world class dining. We have only owned our condo since February 2011, but we have already made many new friends at the Makaha Village Plantation. People are very open and friendly.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:

We really enjoyed Swimming in the pool and watching the Kids play. In the evening we relax under a clear star-lit sky in the Jacuzzi. I love to Sit and Read and Watch the Peacocks, ducks, and many different birds and wildlife. We have spent many hours snorkeling off the reef at Makaha Beach and the little turtle beach at Aki Cove. Our relatives have enjoyed swimming with the dolphins at Maku

Why Christina-email/phone chose Mākaha Valley

We wanted to be 'off the beaten path' We had spent time in a small village south of Puerto Vallarto, Mexico but we found that there were too many obstacles to really get to know the people and the culture. But living in Makaha, life is pretty quiet but you can still get into a huge city within 1 hour if you want more excitement and world class dining. We have only owned our condo since February 2011, but we have already made many friends at the Makaha Village Plantation. People are very open and friendly.

What makes this condo unique

We immediately fell in love with the view from our condo and impulsively purchased it. Having close access to unusual hiking and water sports nearby has been ideal. We are so happy that we can meet other interesting travelers from around the world in the Jacuzzi's on property. I love the Peacock and wild life on the well manicured lawns that make this property unique.

We had a great time at the Plantation and touring Oahu. Lots of things to see and do. We were very impressed with Christina's condo it was very well equipped compared to other places we have stayed. We found the condo easily it was very clean and comfortable. Sheryl was also very helpful with any questions we had.We would certainly recommend it to friends and family.

Nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

The directions to the condo were easy to follow. It is a nice space for your visit. As other reviewers have stated, it is a little far out of the way, so keep that in mind.If you plan on doing a lot of touristy stuff, everything like North Shore, Windward Side of the island ( Byod-In Temple), Polynesian Cultural Center, Dole plantation, Hanama Bay, are about an hour away, so plan accordingly and watch traffic patterns, Traffic on Oahu can be horrendous. The condo is situated on the West Coast of Oahu, in Waianea. The beaches are beautiful. We didn't spend a lot of time on this side of the island, most of our activities were on the North Shore and Windward side.

The condo itself was lovely, the beds were very comfortable. Pictures are very accurate. Having a kitchen to cook dinners in was wonderful and helped us have a very affordable vacation. We were able to purchase groceries locally, and there is a Walmart and Safeway within a short distance, in next largest town down the road about 13 miles in Kapolei. If you plan it right, you can stop there on your way back to the condo after sightseeing to pick up supplies. There is also a Costco in Kapolei.

If you plan to do laundry, make sure you read the directions provided thoroughly, they can be confusing.

There is no AC, but there are fans, which helps to cool down the condo for sleeping.

The power went out one night. It was a good thing we were just looking for our beds to get some sleep. It eventually came on around 1am.

If you are planning a trip to just enjoy the beach and relax, this condo will work out well. It is nice and quiet most of the time, but you are serenaded by the peacocks and roosters between 6a-8a. every morning. If you are a light sleeper or not an early riser, this may be problematic.

We enjoyed our stay. We were pretty active, but it was nice to come back to the condo at the end of our busy days to just relax.

Everything we needed and more but a little too hot for us

  • 4 of 5

The condo had everything we needed and more. The kitchen was stocked with great pots and pans. There were more than enough beach towels for all four of us to have two apiece to rotate. There was toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap so we didn't have to worry about anything. Great furniture and beds were clean.

I loved Makaha Valley. I would stay in this area again. I am not the type of person who wants a fancy area, I loved the local casual feel, and I didn't like the "touristy" areas - way too many people. It is a bit of a drive to get around but worth the quiet.

The main thing I would say is that for us, being from Alaska, it was way too hot. There wasn't much of a breeze (only a couple days) to help move air around. The pool was great and almost every night we went for a dip until 9pm then went back and ate a late dinner. This helped to cool us off before bed. So if you aren't used to heat, cannot regulate heat, or over heat easy this may not be the place for you if the temperature is 80+. My daughter who cannot regulate temperature well had a big problem with this.

I would say that over all it is clean and well maintained. There were some small things such as the bath tub could be could be bleached and scrubbed to removed some black markings and make it appear cleaner, the bedroom curtains should be replaced they are extremely warn and give the room a dirty feel, and the small nooks and crannies could be scrubbed and vacuumed.

If this place had the option of using a plug in air conditioner for an additional fee to offset their electricity prices we would stay there again. Thanks a great stay at a wonderful price!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. I so glad that you enjoyed our condo. I have notified the cleaner about your comments on the bathtub. Unfortunately it is old and difficult to clean, we're working on it. As for the air conditioning, I do agree that there are some rare days when the trade winds don't blow and the temperature is uncomfortably warm. We have considered air conditioning but be aware that the cost of electricity is almost 3 times higher than the national average. "It is our goal to provide a comfortable stay at a very affordable price."
