Come and discover Puffin’s Cove, located in a quiet residential neighborhood in the historic & picturesque, seafaring town of Thomaston, Maine bordering Rockland. A short two minute drive brings you into the town of Rockland. Or drive down the penninsula on Route 131 to beaches, docks where live lobster is sold right off the boat; or down to Port Clyde where you can take in a day or evening cruise on the Monhegan boat line. From Puffin's Cove, it is a short walk to the river where you can take a picturesque stroll along the river to the working harbor. At the town landing there are picnic tables where you can enjoy a boxed lunch or go over to the Slipway Restaurant by the water, where you can enjoy a meal of fabulous Maine Lobster or other seafood. It is also walking distance to the library, churches, grocery store, café/restaurant, lounge bar, post office and shops.

Puffin's Cove is a spacious, 1200 sqft, 2 bedroom, tastefully decorated and appointed apartment. The unit is situated on the 2nd floor of our New Englander style home, which is surrounded by beautiful mature trees and landscaping, and sits atop a small hill. It offers off-street parking adjacent to the driveway, and its own completely private entrance and deck. The 8x12 deck with its Adirondack style chairs and table, is a charming spot for relaxing, and also provides a perfect view of the night sky for star gazing. As you enter the unit, you come upon a beautiful private foyer and staircase with elegant, 1800’s period, mahogany railing, leading up to the second floor.

At the top of the stairs to the right, you will find the tastefully decorated living room with its large panoramic windows. The living room offers a large comfortable sofa which makes watching a movie on the 32 inch color TV; priceless family entertainment. There is an inviting recliner next to a window in the far right-hand corner. Adjacent to the recliner is a small table with a reading lamp; a perfect spot for curling up with a good book or just relaxing and taking a nap.. Enjoy the scenic view of historic Montpelier Mansion-General Henry Knox Museum, from the living room day or night.

The beautiful honey-pine, random width wood plank floors remind you of an earlier time, rich in history. The built-in bookcase on the opposite side of the room is stocked with interesting books, puzzles and games for a fun evening of relaxing entertainment.

The expansive master bedroom features a luxuriously comfortable Queen Size bed with dual side tables & lamps. This bedroom also features a large full length mahogany dresser with mirror and matching 2 drawer chest, as well as a spacious closet. All beds (master and guest) are outfitted with fine high quality linens and fabrics. Also evident in this room are the honey-pine, random width plank wood floors. Enjoy the views of the grounds, from the large panoramic windows. There are room-darkening blinds on the windows for privacy, and to produce a serene atmosphere to help you float off to sleep.

The guest bedroom features a Queen Size bed with side table and lamp, a wicker chair, and plush carpeting. There is a large 10’ closet with full length, mirrored, folding doors.

There is dual access to the kitchen from both the living room and the hallway. The efficient fully equipped Kitchen (should you want to cook) features a 26 cf. refrigerator equipped with automatic ice maker, a dishwasher, electric range/oven, and a built-in microwave. It is well stocked with dinnerware, flatware, cooking utensils, and pots & pans. The kitchen also features a single serve coffeemaker, toaster and blender. From the window, you can watch the osprey flying over the Mill River in search of food, while you cook.

The formal dining room boasts a mahogany buffet cabinet and a solid wood, oval dining table which seats 6. Enjoy the view while you dine, as you sit in front of a large picture window which looks out onto the well-manicured grounds. You can often catch site of osprey, sea gulls and other indigenous bird life.

Adjacent to the dining room, you will find a large bathroom.

The spacious bath features a full-size shower and tub combo. The linen closet is stocked with soft, fluffy towels and paper goods and has full-length mirrored doors. These features, along with a huge double vanity will make getting ready that much easier. The bath also doubles as a laundry and boasts a new state-of-the art stacked washer and dryer.

About G. Barreto

After a rewarding career in clinical/pharmaceutical research, I am now a retired entreprenuer. I love Maine, its beauty and all it has to offer, especially here along the MidCoast. I love to paint in watercolor, garden, spend time with my grandchildren and meet interesting new people.

G. Barreto purchased this apartment in 2005

Why G. Barreto chose MidCoast and Penobscot Bay

We came to Mid-Coast Maine on vacation one summer, and fell in love with the historic, picturesque town of Thomaston and its friendly and welcoming residents. We were also impressed by the abundance and richness of the activities one could avail. At a later date, we found this wonderful, majestic 5 bedroom home set on a small hill on ¾ acres and decided to purchase it. We wanted to share our home as a vacation rental, so people could experience all that the Mid-Coast has to offer, with its live performances, live music, museums, art galleries and festivals abundant in downtown Thomaston, Rockland, & Camden and other surrounding areas of Mid-Coast Maine. In 2010, I began renovations to convert the second floor into an apartment with its own private entrance.

What makes this apartment unique

This exquisite apartment, has all the modern conveniences, is centrally located and perfect for the vacation or corporate traveler that needs easy access to Downtown Thomaston, Rockland, Camden and surrounding mid-coast areas. Situated near the border between Rockland and Thomaston and with easy access to Route 1, you are in Rockland in a couple of minutes. It is also walking distance to the library, churches, grocery store, café/restaurant, lounge bar, post office and shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came over from the UK for our son's wedding and were provided with a home from home.

We were made very welcome and were provided with everything that we needed to make our stay as wonderful and memorable as possible.

Hopefully, some time in the future, we will be back to visit Maine and our new in-laws, and Puffins Cove would be our location of choice to stay for that visit.

Feels like Home

Puffins Cove was very nice, and comfortable. My Daughter, Granddaughter, and I spent a wonderful week, and appreciated every minute of it. Grizel was a very good host, who treated us like family.

Good location and value but noisy and disrepair

  • 3 of 5

Our experience was negatively influenced by the lack of management due to the illness and absence of the landlady. We had plumbing and electrical problems. Once we were able to reach her most of it was resolved. At the time of our stay, it was very hot so,we ran the AC; it turns out that anything else you do when running AC blows the whole house. Because the house is on the corner of HWY 1, there is a lot of traffic noise.

Having said that, this is a well priced rental in a great location for exploring the mid coast. The basics are provided, no hair dryer tho. The rooms are spacious enough. The entire apartment is on the second floor of the land lady's home.

Honestly, even if we did not have many maintenance issues, I could not give this rental much higher rating due to the noise and wiring inadequacies. The amenities match the low price.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We love Puffin's Cove and keep coming back year after year (this was our fourth visit). We have four boys and the apartment has plenty of room. Thomaston is a great location, near Camden, Rockport and Rockland. The mid-coast is a good place for children to play (the beaches, rocks, tidal pools) and for parents to unwind.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Puffin Cove was such a pleasure for my husband and me. We were looking for a place that was comfortable, central to the mid-coast and a good value. We found all of these things at Puffin Cove. The apartment is spacious and light-filled with comfortable upholstered seating and bedding. The bathroom is large with excellent laundry facilities. The kitchen is small but functional and well equipped. The outside deck is a perfect spot for a morning cup of coffee or an evening of conversation and laughter. We especially appreciated two things. The apartment came with a generous supply of basic items: soap, laundry supplies, paper products, coffee, tea, sugar etc. This was unexpected but saved us much time and money. We also appreciated our hostess, Grizel so much. She is warm and welcoming. She keeps the apartment stocked with a mini-library of information about her beautiful state and she is so willing to share information with her guests. Every day of our 7 day vacation we were on the go. At the end of the day it was such a pleasure to return to Puffin Cove.

Perfect week in Maine

  • 5 of 5

My wife and i spent a fantastic week at Puffins Cove. The apartment is quite spacious and beautifully decorated. There is certainly room enough for a family of 4. Grizel was so helpful with tips on places to visit and restaurants to frequent. It was comforting to know she was always nearby to provide any help we needed. The ideal location of Puffins Cove makes it easy to make day trips of 1-1and a half hours. We were able to go north to Acadia National Park as well as visit points of interest to the south. A wonderful binder with brochures and information is maintained in the apartment. It was very helpful in our planning day trips. If you just want to stay local for a day or two, there are lovely beaches (some with lighthouses) to visit nearby. Just a perfect week in Maine. We hope to return soon.

Excellent, clean, and spacious, centrally located vacation rental.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very lovely place to stay on the central coast. You have plenty of room, you can do some cooking if you want to, and everything is clean and neat. Grizel is a great host, very helpful and informative, but also gives you plenty of space to do your own thing. Highly recommend!
