Well-appointed, charming, comfortable, four-bedroom, two bath home with waterfront views, a private sand beach, and wrap-around screened porch on exclusive Kennebec Point in Georgetown, Maine. The house, accessed via private driveway, sits on a broad lawn with views to the ocean and to a large tidal bay beyond the lawn and sand beach. The bay is great for swimming when the tide is in and great for clamming when it is out.
The large, eat-in kitchen and adjacent dining room featuring ocean and bay views is separated from the comfortable, well-finished living room by a large stone fireplace. A well-lit, cozy library flanks the master bedroom with a newly renovated master bath and back-bedroom.
An additional full bath completes the first floor. Upstairs, two bedrooms, each with queen beds and ample closets flank a large hall.
Neighborhood amenities include tennis courts and clamming in the tidal bay (available from the town hall for a very small license fee). Reid State Park, Five Islands, boat rentals, and the best lobsters in Maine are within a few minutes drive.
The home is fully furnished. Bedrooms feature queen beds.
Freeport, the home of LL Bean (open 24 x 7), is about 45 minutes to the south, Boothbay Harbor about the same distance to the north. Portland (and the airport) is about an hour to the south.
Amenities: The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped, including a microwave, refrigerator and Jenn-air stove with oven. There is an on-the-porch gas grill. Satellite television, DVD, telephone. Stereo with iPhone dock. Large stone fireplace. Wrap-around screened deck. Private sand beach on tidal bay. Tennis courts (for a minor fee to the local association). Clamming in the tidal bay (requires an inexpensive license). Fishing, kayaking, restaurants, sailing, shopping, State Park, walking. Wildlife viewing, bird watching (osprey, great blue heron, eagles, etc.)
We also rent the Georgetown Grey House, a smaller cottage across the large lawn from the Georgetown White House. Please see https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p316239 .
My grandfather purchased this house almost 100 years ago and it has been in the family since.
Kennebec Point is a very special place that is simultaneously relaxing and filled with fun things to do. Our girls immediately learned the difference between low and high tides, and enjoyed both immensely—exploring in the mud when the water was out, and swimming in the calm when it was in. We made great use of the fine sandy beach and climbed on the rocks. We successfully clammed a dinner’s worth of good-sized clams after watching and learning from a local expert. We even enjoyed a beach bonfire with the state’s easy daily permitting process, which was available online.
We could tell the house itself is a long-time family treasure-- old but clean, well kept and comfortable. We enjoyed family dinners around the table every night. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils we needed, and the good quality linens and towels for each room were a welcome convenience. The large screened-in porch was in constant use, and a great place to enjoy the breeze and scenery.
The ocean beaches of Reid State Park are just a short drive away, as is the fair and ample general store. We took a schooner ride in Boothbay Harbor, less than an hour away. We also hiked in a nature preserve about a mile from the house. Other than that, there was absolutely no reason to leave what felt like our own paradise for the week.
Our family likes to explore new places, but Kennebec Point surely felt like a spot where we would all love to stay again. We will always treasure our time there.
We had a beautiful vacation at the White House. The weather was perfect for sunning, swimming, clamming, walking out on the sands when the tide was out searching for sand dollars and shells. Just awesome there and the house was beautiful and comfortable with it's huge screened in porch, no bugs on this trip, well, some green heads, but it's that time of the year. Thanks Fred and family for sharing your paradise with us. Carl, Bonnie and friends
This home was very enjoyable for us to stay in! It is clean, quiet, relaxing! We had plenty of room for the 7 of us. The yard was wonderful for playing whiffle ball every night. The beach was perfect for getting some sun and when the tide was out there were a lot of shells to find and areas to explore.
The screened in porch is where we spent the majority of our time. The only hiccup was that the wi-fi was not very reliable, although not sure what can be done about that when on a beautiful island! It did not sway our feelings about wanting to stay here again at all. It was nice to unplug for a while!
I highly recommend this vacation rental !
2 adults, 3 children (7, 3, 4 months) and we all had a spectacular week at the Georgetown White House. The house was exactly as described, and wonderfully comfortable. Well stocked with books including Agatha Christie mysteries which made my day. We clammed, swam, kayaked, paddleboarded, and scampered along the shore of the bay. The sand beach is lovely and visible from the massive screened porch where we drank coffee every morning and ate nearly every meal. We picked up lobsters (and blueberry gelato) from the Georgetown Country Store - the kitchen had everything we needed and more. Easy day trips to Portland and Boothbay Harbor. Fred was a communicative and gracious host - it is clear that this is a well-loved and warm home, and we are so glad they shared it with us. We are already planning our return trip!
Our family (four adults) just returned from one of the most restful and beautiful vacations we've ever had. The Georgetown house is very spacious and comfortable with lots of natural light. Many of the rooms look out on to the ocean which is cool. It has a huge screened-in porch with views towards the open ocean and the more tranquil Sagadahoc Bay. Comfortable rocking chairs are there for many hours of bug- free viewing. The porch was our favorite place. There is also an open air section of the deck with a new grill. We spent most of our week out there watching the tides come in and out, the fish jumping, and the migratory birds landing and taking off. With the bay practically at your doorstep it was like having your own private beach with an ideal location to launch a kyak, go claming at low tide or swimming. The house sits up on a hill so there is a pleasant breeze flowing up from the bay. The house has lots of interesting objects (including a well-stocked library) and is very clean. We highly recommend this place! It's very private though there are neighbors within walking distance. The town of Bath is about a 20 minute drive, Brunswick , Freeport, and Portland are also within a short drive. So there is lots to do but we found that we wanted to stay put in the house because it was such a beautiful place.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is comfortable, charming and spacious. The views to the water were fantastic and perfect for relaxing over coffee or a glass of wine. Our teenage kids loved scrambling over the rocks, clamming and swimming, especially when the tide was out.
The location was great with lots to do in the area.
A real nice family vacation for us. Thanks Fred and Ann!
