There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to toast the sunset. In Capitola, the Shadow Brook Restaurant is one of our favorites. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge with live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation: The mild climate, the fresh air, the pounding surf, fine food, long leisurely walks, and beautiful scenery.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Santa Cruz

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing as the sun sets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lorraine, your place is absolutely wonderful with everything we could ever need. I really love the loft. I slept like a baby. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done with the place. You optimized the space very well. We will truly enjoy ourselves. It will be hard to leave. Thank you so much.

Pleasure Point Beach Cottage Hidden Capitola Gem with Secret Garden

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in this wonderful property several times over the past few years, each experiance improved over the previous visit. What had been a cute funky Capitola cottage has been lovingly and carefully refurbished with attention to detail and comfort. Morning coffee in the hidden garden outside the bedroom was a great way to begin the day. Downtown Capitola is an easy walk along the wonderful sea cliffs. There are always surfers at the point. The photos do not fully show the inside charm of the property but the description is accurate. Lorraine and Virgil are a pleasure to work with, helpful and very responsive. Clam chowder at the end of the Capatola pier is a great inexpensive lunch.

Grateful for the little cottage near the sea

  • 5 of 5

We were grateful for our stay in Cottage C. We were there for nearly two months. I had read the other reviews and was almost hesitant to stay. But there was nothing we could find like it for the price. It's clean, comfortable and in a fantastic location. It's a short walk to the ocean where we sat everyday with our dog and watched surfers, whales, otters and sea lions while enjoying great coffee from The Point Market. There's a very good washer and dryer shared by all three units. Yes, the shower is small (it's a Navy shower my husband said) and the Internet was spotty but it worked better for us because we bring our own router and booster (because we are traveling for work). It's not fancy. And we look forward to coming back. :)

Cottage C

  • 4 of 5

Fabulous location, great little cottage, we've stayed here a few times, it has everything you need, plus a lovely garden. Wonderful if you have dogs! The bathroom being between the kitchen/dining room and the bedroom/sitting room can at first feel a little weird but it's totally workable for a couple! Especially if you have dogs. I highly recommend this cottage

Location,location, location!

  • 4 of 5

Short two night stay in quiet residential neighborhood. Great location for us. We had a wonderful hike with our dog at Pogonip Trail a must visit area creeks, old lodge and polo field from 1930's meadows and redwoods. Lodging was clean and adequate, would recommend this VRBO.

You need to go thru the bathroom to get to the kitchen or the bedroom/livingroom

  • 2 of 5

I am amazed at the reviews apparently some people stayed in a different place? Yes the property is clean but everything is worn. What you are actually paying for here is the location. The property is located in a beautiful surf area called the Point. This property is set up very odd. You cannot get to the kitchen without going thru the bathroom. The shower is a disaster. It's not to code and you have to step up or off a wooden step that is very slippery. The shower itself is very narrow and small. This would not be allowed by any inspector for the city IF this property was a hotel. Good for people with pets. Cannot recommend to anyone over 60 due to the dangerous condition of the bathroom shower.

Owner's Response: Wrong, the bed and furniture are relatively new, and very comfortable. Yes, the shower is small. Yes, the design is unusual. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Location is primo and keeping the cost down is an important consideration for us.

Great access to the area

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located in a great location to see Santa Cruz and Monterey. It felt like a very safe area and was very clean when we arrived. The directions to access the cottage were easy and it had everything you would need for a weekend escape. We will be back again soon.
