After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation: The mild climate, the fresh air, the pounding surf, fine food, long leisurely walks, and beautiful scenery.
Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979
We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.
Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing as the sun sets.
Lorraine, your place is absolutely wonderful with everything we could ever need. I really love the loft. I slept like a baby. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done with the place. You optimized the space very well. We will truly enjoy ourselves. It will be hard to leave. Thank you so much.
We've stayed in this wonderful property several times over the past few years, each experiance improved over the previous visit. What had been a cute funky Capitola cottage has been lovingly and carefully refurbished with attention to detail and comfort. Morning coffee in the hidden garden outside the bedroom was a great way to begin the day. Downtown Capitola is an easy walk along the wonderful sea cliffs. There are always surfers at the point. The photos do not fully show the inside charm of the property but the description is accurate. Lorraine and Virgil are a pleasure to work with, helpful and very responsive. Clam chowder at the end of the Capatola pier is a great inexpensive lunch.
OMG!!! This place was awesome. First, everything was so clean and beautiful. The living room was like new and very comfortable, I felt like I was home. There is plenty of closet space and the bed was so comfortable and I enjoyed my sleep after a long day of hiking. The kitchen was large with a roomy eating area. My overall experience was great. The location was so close to the beach (a few houses away) and I could walk to my daughter's house. It was very convenient to stay here instead of a hotel. I really felt relaxed and enjoyed the backyard with the beautiful flowers. Location is everything and this place has it. I can't wait to plan my stay here again. Thank you so much!
This is a great little unit near Pleasure Point with private parking, a huge private patio, laundry facilities, and comfortable living quarters. The owner is very helpful, responds almost immediately to inquiries, and is pleasant to work with. No rental units are perfect, but this is a well-kept and reasonably priced option for a stay near Santa Cruz. There are apparently three separate units on this property, and any one of them would probably be worth considering for a stay in this area!
We enjoyed surfer's paradise pleasure point cottage. The cottage was very cute and cleaned. The best part was enjoying a private breakfast on the patio in the morning sun. A wonderful place to walk and the beach was only two blocks away. Quiet and away from the huge tourist scene. However if you enjoy the tourist scene it is only 15 minutes away by car. Wifi was spotty but it was nice not to be connected to the world for a few days. We highly recommend Lillies Italian Restaurant excellent wine, food, and desserts. Hope you get a chance to enjoy a wonderful town and the people who live there.
I stayed at the surf shack for 32 nights. The waves were great. It's not a super fancy place by any stretch but it has all the basics, including a play area for the dog. Owners were professional and responsive. Wireless reception could be better. Shower could be better. Less ants would be nice, but hey, what do you want at this price? Bed was comfy. TV worked well and place had a certain charm.
I had a wonderful time on my retreat! I was able to work on my dissertation in peace and quiet and enjoy nature with my faithful canine companion! We took many great walks along the cliffs at Pleasure Point and got to see the stars every night we were there! I highly recommend this apartment/cottage for singles or couples wanting a beach get away!
