Welcome to Sunset Bluff on Big Rideau Lake near Portland on the Rideau. Since we welcomed our first guests to this newly built island retreat in 2010 we have welcomed both new and returning guests for summer vacations. With the number of returning guests increasing we recommend you don't wait to book your summer vacation week. Note this is an island cottage so you will either need to have a boat or rent one from one of the providers in Portland. Call or email us for more details on boat access and car free car parking.
Our guests are the best! They treat Sunset Bluff like it was their own. It is because of them that our cottage looks like the day it was built. We call it paradise for good reason.

The Township of Rideau Lakes is a wonderful place to get away from it all and relax. We offer something for every taste whether it be boating, shopping, fishing, golfing, hiking, bicycling, antiquing, swimming and much more. Come and visit us, it will be an experience to remember.
We offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Golf on the wooded terrain of one of our several golf courses. Enjoy fishing; the southern Rideau Lakes are particularly noted for their excellent bass fishing. Enjoy the water on any of our many lakes. No boat? Not a problem, there are several places where you can rent one. Hike the Rideau or Cataraqui Trails. Bicycle our backroads or trails. Spend a day antiquing at one of our many antique shops. Tour a museum and learn about some of the early history of the region.
Of course no visit to the Township would be complete without a visit to one of the Rideau Canal Waterway lockstations. The Rideau Canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only such site in all of Ontario. The locks are operated by hand, just as they were when first opened in 1832. Visit the magnificent stone arch dam at Jones Falls. Take a break at the quiet solitude of Davis Lock. Visit the Locksmaster's House Museum at Chaffeys Lock. See the wonderfully restored blockhouse at Newboro Lock. Ask the locksmaster at Narrows Lock why this lock is strangely located in the middle of a lake. The locks are operated by Parks Canada and are easily accessible by either vehicle or boat.
We face west on Big Rideau Lake so every night you enjoy beautiful sunsets.
The swim dock and shallow water at shore is safe for young children. The swim raft is located in deeper water out front as well.
The boat dock is located on the protected east shore with deep water and the ability to handle boats up to 30 feet with ease. Enjoy our canoe, pedal boat, and two person kayak.
We have tournament class fishing for bass, as well as pike, walleye, crappie, and lake trout. Watch loons, osprey, woodpeckers, and other native birds.
