My husband and I were so delighted when we walked into this lovely cottage/converted barn. It is completely modern yet charming, with signs of the original barn left in place. I loved the wide stairwell, the beautiful paintings on the walls, and the large modern bathroom. We had breakfast on the lovely back porch every morning and were struck by how completely quiet the world can still be.
This is truly an exceptional property, from the history and location to the high quality accommodations. We were really very surprised when we arrived. The property has a private path cut through a field of wildflowers to Goose Cove; we took the kayaks out during the day and captured some terrific photos of the Milky Way at night. Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, which is a must-see at sunset, is pretty close. We really enjoyed taking our dogs to Little Long Pond, where dogs are permitted to run and swim off-leash. Of course we drove Park Loop, hiked Cadillac Mountain, had popovers by Jordan Pond, and bought some souvenirs in Bar Harbor. We also checked out the museums and sailed on a schooner. Nevertheless, one week was not enough time to experience all that the island has to offer.
We arrived to find the most charming and beautifully appointed cottage. No detail to make our stay wonderful was too small to be ignored and our delightful hostess couldn't have made us feel more welcomed. We spent our too short week there hiking the "Quiet Side" of Acadia, enjoying restaurants, galleries and shops in Northeast and Southwest Harbors, and dining at Thurston's Lobster Pound or The Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor - which we particularly enjoyed as our dog could accompany us there. Skylark and Goose Cove are the perfect places to relax and enjoy being in "true Maine." We hated to leave this perfect retreat!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Skylark Cottage! This charming, beautiful cottage was so well designed with the perfect combination of new appliances/touches and the comforts of home. We were greeted by our gracious hostess that was as charming as the cottage! We had such a wonderful week exploring the adorable Southwest Harbor, Acadia National Park, Bass Harbor and Bar Harbor which were all within a close distance.
Many cute shops and restaurants are close by to explore in Southwest Harbor. We will definitely be visiting again and it was so hard for us to leave this beautiful and special retreat!
Skylark Cottage is in a quiet area but is in close driving distance to anything you may need while here on vacation. It is a wonderful vacation rental!!
