Lovely historic home with lots of grace and charm located in quaint Long Beach, MS, one block from the beach, across from the University of Southern Mississippi at Gulf Park, home of the Friendship Oak. This home sits on a large tree filled lot with plenty of privacy, just minutes away from shopping and restaurants in Long Beach and gaming in Biloxi and Gulfport and one hour away from the French Quarter in New Orleans. Unbeatable value for those looking for a quiet vacation away from the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches.

Three bedrooms upstairs, furnished with comfortable queen beds and two twins in third bedroom. A lovely Sunroom also has a queen size bed and comfortable chair makes a place to enjoy early morning coffee or quiet afternoon reading. There is a futon that can be folded out to use as additional sleeping.

The large inviting deck can accommodate grilling, eating or just relaxing.

On site attendant will be available for easy check in. Shuttle services can be arranged for transportation to and from shopping and casinos. Chartered fishing trips also available.

This home has been in our family for 80 years. We have spent many happy times in this home and have lots of good memories. We recently decided to share the unique charm of this house. The house has been almost completely restored and we will continue making upgrades. We hope you come to love it as much as we do and return often to enjoy to quiet slow pace of Long Beach, truly a jewel of the Gulf Coast.

Long Beach has been named as the most desirable place to live in Mississippi by the real estate blog Movoto. The website reviews communities around the country.

Long Beach was ranked number one on the list based on total amenities, quality of life, crime rate, tax rates, unemployment, commute and weather.

About Robin Rasmussen

This house has been in my family for almost 80 years. My parents grew up in Long Beach and moved to Tennessee after they married. My husband and I live in Holly Springs, MS and love to come to the coast to relax. Our family has a long history on the coast. I still have lots of cousins who live on the coast full time. My sister refers to this house as her 'happy place.' We'd love for you to come for a visit.

Robin Rasmussen purchased this house in 1935

Why Robin Rasmussen chose Mississippi

This home has been in our family for 82 years. First it was owned by my grandparents and then my father and aunt. We have enjoyed it as our vacation home for years and now its your chance to share in the experience. This is truly a home away from home. All linens are provided, as well as a fully stocked kitchen. There is a grill for outdoor cooking and lots of room to enjoy.

What makes this house unique

The House of Hewes is a family home. It is not a hotel or a condotel. If you want stainless steel and granite, this house is not for you. If you want a lovely home for your vacation with lots of charm and character, this is the place for you. We love sharing our home with guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beach house. It was a very exciting adventure for the kids. This was the first time they had ever been to the beach. They had a blast playing in the water and sand. My wife is very intrigued by the house and curious about its history like why parts are the original and what has been added and when.

Anyway it was a wonderful weekend. Thank you so much for the escape.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This is a great old house. The owners were great to work with and provided everything I needed. The House of Hewes definitely felt like home. I was on the coast for work. There was a printer for me to use that I found very helpful. I didn't get to do much fun, but I felt like I was at home after work. I will definitely stay again when I next have to go to the Coast for work and if I can manage it I will come back for a fun visit.

We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. This house was cozy and lovely. It is truly a home. It is not granite and stainless steel. The beds were divine. Clearly the owners have taken the time to make sure that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was perfect, minutes from the beach including a beautiful walk from the house to the beach. The beach was all but private. We loved the quaint city of Long Beach. The owner's recommendations were spot on. The House is exactly as described, including sitting next to a train track, which only added to the uniqueness and charm of the property. Our children were delighted by the trains and couldn't wait for them to come by. We will definitely stay here again when we return to the Coast.

Old South Charm at its finest!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house, and the room it provided the family while we were in transition waiting for our permanent home. So much better than staying in a hotel for two months with a family of 5 and a dog! Betsy was on top of any little problem that came up, and was such a joy to get to know!! Took a bit to get used to the trains going by, but once we did, it wasn't a big deal. My daughter really enjoyed being able to walk to the beach! We are looking forward to booking again in the near future! Thanks, Robin and Betsy, for everything 😄

Very nice, close to the beach and restaurants.

  • 4 of 5

The house was nice and in good shape. The bathrooms could use updating, particularly the one downstairs. Had to call the owner to get in, caretaker wasn't there, but we showed ourselves around. The owner was very pleasant to deal with, and got us in the house quickly. Overall, we enjoyed it.

Owner's Response: Tony, So glad you enjoyed your visit. Bathroom updates on the list of improvements. Hopefully you'll stay with us again, and by that time, I'll get that particular amenity updated. The house is 86 years old, so updates are an ongoing project. Thanks, Robin

Needs some TLC

  • 2 of 5

The property is generally rundown, but, even so, we had a nice visit. The location is convenient. The beach is not inviting. We spent no time at the beach. Lack of surf and murky water made trips to the beach uninviting.

Owner's Response: The House of Hewes is 86 years old and full of charm and grace as noted by the numerous and recent 5 star ratings. I am disappointed that you perceived my home as "run down." No one else who has stayed at our home has made such derogatory remarks recently or in the past. My guess is that you are looking for something all granite and glass, which our home is not. Long Beach is located on the Mississippi Sound. The Sound is a waterway protected from the ocean by barrier islands, thus there are usually no big waves, unless it's during hurricane season. I'm sorry that you did not enjoy the quaint charm of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
