Mississippi House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Lovely historic home with lots of grace and charm located in quaint Long Beach, MS, one block from the beach, across from the University of Southern Mississippi at Gulf Park, home of the Friendship Oak. This home sits on a large tree filled lot with plenty of privacy, just minutes away from shopping and restaurants in Long Beach and gaming in Biloxi and Gulfport and one hour away from the French Quarter in New Orleans. Unbeatable value for those looking for a quiet vacation away from the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches.

Three bedrooms upstairs, furnished with comfortable queen beds and two twins in third bedroom. A lovely Sunroom also has a queen size bed and comfortable chair makes a place to enjoy early morning coffee or quiet afternoon reading. There is a futon that can be folded out to use as additional sleeping.

The large inviting deck can accommodate grilling, eating or just relaxing.

On site attendant will be available for easy check in. Shuttle services can be arranged for transportation to and from shopping and casinos. Chartered fishing trips also available.

This home has been in our family for 80 years. We have spent many happy times in this home and have lots of good memories. We recently decided to share the unique charm of this house. The house has been almost completely restored and we will continue making upgrades. We hope you come to love it as much as we do and return often to enjoy to quiet slow pace of Long Beach, truly a jewel of the Gulf Coast.

Long Beach has been named as the most desirable place to live in Mississippi by the real estate blog Movoto. The website reviews communities around the country.

Long Beach was ranked number one on the list based on total amenities, quality of life, crime rate, tax rates, unemployment, commute and weather.

About Robin Rasmussen

This house has been in my family for almost 80 years. My parents grew up in Long Beach and moved to Tennessee after they married. My husband and I live in Holly Springs, MS and love to come to the coast to relax. Our family has a long history on the coast. I still have lots of cousins who live on the coast full time. My sister refers to this house as her 'happy place.' We'd love for you to come for a visit.

Robin Rasmussen purchased this house in 1935

Why Robin Rasmussen chose Mississippi

This home has been in our family for 80 years. First it was owned by my grandparents and then my father and aunt. We have enjoyed it as our vacation home for years and now its your chance to share in the experience. This is truly a home away from home. All linens are provided, as well as a fully stocked kitchen. There is a grill for outdoor cooking and lots of room to enjoy.

What makes this house unique

There is an onsite property attendant to facilitate check in and emergency needs or just a friendly face.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beach house. It was a very exciting adventure for the kids. This was the first time they had ever been to the beach. They had a blast playing in the water and sand. My wife is very intrigued by the house and curious about its history like why parts are the original and what has been added and when.

Anyway it was a wonderful weekend. Thank you so much for the escape.

Great rental for winter shows

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for the winter horse shows in 2016 and it was just what we needed! Betsy had the house perfectly prepared and it had more than everything we needed for our trip. The train was easy to get used to after a few nights. The smarttv and wi fi were great and it was nice they allowed my dog to stay. I would recommend this place for horse show people anytime. It's in a great location and has everything you could possibly need. We had a great stay and will be back!

Great old house near the beach

  • 5 of 5

Superior trip- the house was convenient, comfortable, and had everything we needed- utensils, pots & pans, etc. No trips to Walmart were required. The beds were great, slept like babies. The train woke us the first night, but was kind of nice thereafter. The coast is a great destination and really good food is in walking distance. Highly recommend this experience.

Wonderful and restful home

  • 5 of 5

i have been traveling to the Gulf Coast my whole life ( the better part of 40 years) and have been visiting with my children all of their lives. This trip proved to be as comforting and relaxing as many others. Over the years there are some things you can count on while visiting the Gulf Coast, a pop up shower in the afternoon, a sandy excursion- whether you have been to the beach or not, shade from magnificent, ancient trees and the rumble of the trains. When I was little I would run outside and count the trains as they went by, improving my counting skills every time. My own children have adopted this practice and in the 18 years they have been visiting the House of Hewes the train has become as much a part of the visit as the beach, the trees or the weather. Even as small children travel could be difficult, settling into a new space and different bed would sometimes wake them during the night, but as they have gotten older and more accustomed to travel, sleeping anywhere is a trait all three have learned.

The House of Hewes was better this time then on past visits, the new attendant was certain the house was perfectly clean, and prepared properly for our visit. We enjoyed sunrise and sunset walks on the beach and were a bit sad there were not more trains, as we have become accustom to the gentle shake and welcoming whistle. No one even stirs at night when they go by, but on the last visit I am not even sure many went by at night. On this visit we went to the marina in Pass and bought fresh shrimp and fish and grilled on the back porch, but other than that stayed in and cooked all of our meals. While there are so many wonderful places to eat on the Coast, it was nice to have a fully stocked kitchen for all the great stuff we brought home from the Farmers Market in Long Beach ( and learned it is open 52 weeks out of the year ). We are already eager for our next trip and look forward to many more visits.

Lovely historical home...

Such a lovely historical home full of tons of amenities -- great bedding, linens.

We enjoyed the deck nightly. Home is close to beach. Loved Long Beach -- charming/not crowded but nice restaurants & shopping.

A great place and location but some key information was not shared

  • 3 of 5

We had a great time staying at the home. It was clean and well kept. Only a short distance to the beach. The owners responded readily to our questions. The reason why I am giving only three stars is that the owners failed to mention, nor is it mentioned in any published reviews, that the home sits directly adjacent to a very active railroad crossing. It literally shakes items in the main bedroom we used when trains go by, which they do several times a night blowing their horn very load because of the crossing. This was a particular issue for us as we were traveling with 4 small children, one of whom was two and one an infant. Not only were we kept up at night, but our small children also awoke and it was quite an ordeal settling them down multiple time each night. I really think the owners should make renters aware of the tracks - especially families traveling with small children, which they knew we were. I will even go so far as to say that I consider it deceptive advertising not to mention this fact as it can significantly effect ones stay. We enjoyed our time at the beach but did not get any real rest. We will not stay here again.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in our home. I'm sorry the train disturbed you. But I am concerned that you believe I have engaged in deceptive advertising. I don't mention the train because no matter where you stay on the Coast, there will be a train. I grew up spending summers in the House of Hewes and the trains have never been an issue for me or anyone in my family. It just never occurred to me to mention them because they are as ubiquitous as the beach down on the Coast. For the most part the train track is less than 1/2 mile from the beach. To me, they are part of the charm of Long Beach. The train runs from Biloxi to New Orleans. The container ships that come into Gulf Port Harbor unload their cargo onto the trains for shipment inland. I do want you to know that there are no unpublished reviews. There are several reviews that mention the train; specifically, March 2015 -- "the train was loud at night;" April, 2014 -- "the train comes by, but is not a bother;" March 2014-- "the train does rumble through several times nightly;" March 2013 -- "the train was close but after the first night we hardly noticed it. Dad is a retired railroader and he just smiled every time the crossing chimes started up;" July 2014 --" we didn't have trouble waking up with the trains going through;" July 2012 -- "trains do whistle each time they pass, up to three to five times per night; be prepared to be awakened during the night as trains move along the tracks that are to the side of the house." There are many many more reviews that don't mention the train at all. Perhaps when your children are older, you will visit the House of Hewes again. Best wishes to you and your family.
