Why the Owner Chose Rio de Janeiro: Rio de Janiero has an energy like no other country I have experienced and it is this which I fell in love with. Copacabana offers so much to see and feel and is centrally located, allowing quick travel to Ipanema, Leblon, Botofogo, Centro or even Barra.
I'm an active person who loves to travel, visiting new countries, cultures and people.
Danny Harrison purchased this apartment in 2010

The apt. was neat and clean. Location was absolutely perfect- so close to everything we needed. The beach was 5 minutes away-2 blocks. Restaurants and shopping around the corner. Very safe and secure. Would stay there again on my next trip to Rio.
A friend and myself were in Rio for the worldcup and had the privilage of staying at this property. The apartment was good, not fancy but good. had all of the ammenities we need and quite comfortable. But where the real prize was LOCATION...LOCATION ... LOCATION!!!. This apartment is located at the enterance of a Favela. It might make you think it could be unsafe...but its far from it. The people, the vibe, the food... you will find it right outside of this apartment. Rose, the caretaker was awesome and very helpful. Danny, the owner, was a real pleasure to deal with and was very informative! Next time I am in Rio (nest year), I willl be looking to stay at this same apartment!
Perfect spot, one block from the beach and a grocery store next door. The building was safe, clean, and quiet. We could not have picked a better apartment, highly recommended.
We had a wonderful time. The apartment had plenty of space, but was lacking on bedding. Other than that we had a nice time
This was our first visit to Rio and our family of 3 spent a week at the apartment. It is well located near the beach, food stores, and restaurants. Getting around is easy because there are cheap taxis everywhere and there is a Metro stop within easy walking distance. The building backs up to Cantagalo but we felt very secure as there is a porter always on duty. The apartment is spacious and having 2 bathrooms was a real plus. There were a couple of minor differences from the Home Away description in that there wasn't anything that played a CD or DVD, and the "clothes dryer" is a hanging rack which is standard in Rio homes. We used the washing machine once, and water leaked from below to the nearby drain in the floor. On the plus side, the A/C and fans worked well as did the wifi, and the master bath shower always had hot water. There were plenty of towels and other linens but we did have to furnish basics like toilet paper, dish and laundry soap, etc.
We took the Metro to the Centro district where we visited the older parts of the city and then made our way past the "Mayan" cathedral to the Arcos tramway (sadly, no longer running) to the Escadaria Selaron (fabulous tiled stairway) and up to the Santa Teresa area. Had refreshments at the Rustica beer garden and then enjoyed great views from the Parque das Ruinas. We also visited the Jardim Botanico and took the "Trem" up Corcovado to the Christ the Redeemer statue. Tip: if you have time to kill before your train, visit the Museum of Primitive Art next door to the station. We also spent time at the beach, naturally.
Recommended restaurants include the Confeitaria Colombo downtown, Zaza Tropical Bistro in Ipanema, Fellini "kilo" restaurant, and Galeto do Leblon for traditional "feijoada" in Leblon, and the Zot Gastrobar on Rua Bolivar in Copa, about 5 blocks from the apartment.
Finally, I would like to add that all of the people we dealt with regarding the apartment were extremely nice and helpful, especially the owner, Danny. Our arrival was delayed by 2 days because of the crash at San Francisco airport. I called Danny and he immediately made new arrangements for our pickup at the airport in Rio, as well as for our son (who was already in Rio as a student) to get the keys to the apartment. We also used the driver, Bruno, to take us to the airport for our early flight to Foz do Iguacu.
In all, I would recommend this comfortable apartment to anyone visiting the Cidade Maravilhosa who wants the "real" Rio.
I stayed here with my 2 daughters and 2 step daughters aged 17-20 for 5 days. It was a good apartment with great proximity to Copacabana Posto 5, however we really missed having natural light from open windows. When we opened the opaque glass to let in the light and fresh air we looked out at the slum, or another wall, or a very dirty rooftop. Proximity to the slum never ended up being an issue because there was always a police officer outside the front gate, but ambience was a little lacking as a result. Otherwise, great value for the price. Thanks Dan.
