When you walk into this contemporary house of 2200 square feet, you are immediately drawn to the oversized greatroom. The entire back of the house is glass resulting in a panoramic view of the lake and equally as important, beautiful sunsets! Not only can you enjoy the views of the lake from the greatroom, you also have the same views from the master bedroom and the dining room/kitchen. The house is a beautifully furnished two bedroom house with a queen bed in each room (roll-away(s) available). Off the master bedroom, there is a bathroom which has a separate shower and garden tub. Likewise, the second bathroom has it own bath which consists of a 5-foot shower. A stack washer and dryer is located in this area as well. A 1/2 bath is available off of the great room. The dining room has sitting for six persons. If you need additional room for dining, there is a card/game table in the great room where there is sitting for four. The dining room attaches to a kitchen which has all the amenities of home: a smooth-top stove, a dishwasher, a built-in microwave, and a full-size refrigerator.
Outside amenites include: a floating dock (where you can tie up your boat during your visit), a covered gazebo, floation for enjoying the water, a deck which surrounds the house on three sides, furniture for the deck, a picnic table and a gas grill outside the dining area, an oversized two-car garage, extra covered parking attached to the garage (parking for one-car), fishing poles, bicycles (2), a concreted driveway to the house as well as the parking area, a covered carport as you enter the lot for additional parking or for parking your boat (most boats fit). Also available for your enjoyment is a 16 foot canoe and two kayaks.
When entering the house from the road-side, you do not have any steps into the house. From the water-side of the house, when going down to the water, you do go down down a minimum number of steps to get to the water. You can go down the side of the house to get to the water with no steps. This house has a 1600 square foot basement which is not rented or occupied.
When you visit, you will feel as though you are in a 5-star hotel, only better, in that you have all the amenities of a home that a hotel can't offer. Another amenity is the location--To get to the home, you go down a 2 1/2 mile paved road which winds through the middle of 1300 acres of preserved forest. Wildlife is abundant in that their natural habitat has been preserved and it is not unusual to see the deer grazing by the road. Trails are available for you to walk or ride your bikes and observe the wildlife or just to enjoy the quietness of nature. Desire retail? You are within ten minutes from retail which includes Target, Home Depot, restaurants, Marshals, Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter, etc. Because Interstates 77, 85, 485 are near the home, you are able to get to uptown Charlotte within 20-25 minutes and to other locations around the city or surrounding cities such as Rock Hill, Gastonia, York, etc.

I am a retired school teacher/administrator of 30 years of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Likewise, my husband, Randy, was a civil service employee and was also in the military for over 42 years. Currently we are both retired (in name only!). Randy has a boat repair business and my business consists of making sure all my guests enjoy their visit on Lake Wylie.
Martha Edwards purchased this house in 1984
Randy and I lived in this house right after we got married and a number of years thereafter. We then built another house on five acres up the lake and moved there (truth be known-my husband wanted land on which to drive his tractor!). After having several full-time renters in the house, I decided to put the house up for vacation rental since I had enjoy renting 'Griff's Place' (#142984) through VRBO, I had a gentleman who rented Sanctuary 2 1/2 years when his job placed him in Charlotte. He had come on a temporary basis and decided he liked the home. He got re-located and the house was open again. I decided once again to rent the house via VRBO. Why? All the years I have been renting through 'vacation rental,' I have met such wonderful people from all over the world. It also brings me pleasure to know my home helped to make good memories for their family.
Will Randy and I ever move back to this home? I do hope to do so in the future. No matter where I have lived, this home remains 'my favorite place of all.' I hope you will think so at the end of your stay.
Welcome to our home.

An Exclusive Home beautifully Furnished
My husband Derek and I were overdue for vacation and were wanting to visit the Charlotte area. We found the Sanctuary online and it was more than what we expected! From the beautiful view of Lake Wylie and the comfort of the home, it was everything you could ask for. Martha was exceptionally accommodating, and anything you needed was available in the home. It was peaceful, comfortable, and cozy, the perfect place for relaxing and rejuvenating. Close to any and all shopping, wonderful restaurants, local events and arenas, it was the perfect getaway. Would not hesitate to return and my husband and I would like to thank Martha and Randy for opening up their beautiful home to share!
Our visits to Charlotte typically include staying with my sister but since this trip's purpose was my niece's wedding, we decided to not crowd the mother-of-the-brides home and rent a home close to her. This beautiful home on Lake Wylie was a perfect solution. You couldn't ask for more gorgeous lake views and amenities in our house. The wrap-around deck was perfect for relaxing....and morning yoga! Martha is a dear woman who cares about her renters and provides things like shampoo, soap, paper products, etc. that we've never had provided in years of vacation rentals. We thoroughly enjoyed spending lazy afternoons laying on the shaded dock down by the water with a nice breeze blowing across the lake. There's also bikes and a canoe if your energy level is so inclined. The house itself has great space - large bedrooms, closets and common rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. On our drives to and from the home, especially in the evenings, we'd always see multiple groups of deer. Whenever we visit Charlotte, if we decide not to stay at my sister's, Martha's Sanctuary Lake Home will be our number 1 choice! Thank you, Martha!
I have vacationed at lakes for 25+ years and this one ranks at the top. The home was very comfortable and clean and had everything we needed and then some. The views from the deck are beautiful and the covered dock area is top notch and provided an awesome outdoor living area. Martha and Randy met us at the house when we arrived, showed us around and where everything was. They did not disappoint. The walking/biking trails adjacent to the home are a nice amenity you just dont find at a lake rental. Of course the lake is the reason for the vacation and the dock area, deep water and "water playground" were exceptional. After a day of fun and play on the water, there is no better ending than a beautiful sunset and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend this property and will be back.
The nicest vacation rental we've ever been to (and we've been to many over the years). We were on our way back to MI from a month's stay in FL. Our son and his family moved from Chicago last year to the Charlotte area. They are building a home on Lake Wylie but are currently in a small rental home. We decided to rent Martha and Randy's home so we'd be close by the kids but not be an "inconvenience" with their limited space. It ended up being a wonderful experience for everyone!! Our daughter and family ended up coming down from MI for a few days since it was during their spring break. All of the cousins had a great time fishing off the dock, taking turns in the canoe, etc. They even enjoyed playing some of the many board games that were available in the house. Of course, a day at Carowinds was a must. What a nice amusement park......a beautiful day without long lines, it was perfect!! My husband was in 7th heaven the whole time we were there. Within 10 minutes he was at the building site of our son's new home. So every day he went over to be "sidewalk superintendent". Would we recommend Martha and Randy's house??? Yes, by all means!! It was so well stocked that all you needed to buy was your food. The moment you arrive you feel so at home. We really hated to leave but here we are.....back in "chilly" MI. Thanks again, Martha and Randy for the wonderful experience!!
My husband and I rented Sanctuary for a month while we visited children and grandchildren in the area. This home is very comfortable, easily hosted our family get-togethers and Randy and Martha have thought of everything you could possibly need! The setting on the lake is lovely and we enjoyed taking the canoe out for rides. Coffee on the deck in the afternoon, walks along the trails make the outdoors delightful. Visiting our favorite bakery, Amelie's, climbing Crowder Mountain and visiting the Raptor Center were highlights as well! Martha and Randy are caring hosts who make sure your needs are met and they went above and beyond to be sure our stay in Sanctuary was a pleasure!
WE TRAVELED TO CHARLOTTE TO ENJOY THANKSGIVING WITH FAMILY. I ACTUALLY SPENT THE FIRST FEW DAYS JUST ENJOYING THE HOME AND THE SPECTACULAR VIEW. THE HOME WAS STOCKED WITH LOTS OF WE ALSO CELEBRATED MY YOUNGEST SON'S 14TH BIRTHDAY WHILE WE WERE THERE. MS. MARTHA SEEM TO HAVE SOMETHING FOR EACH OF MY 3 CHILDREN; GREAT MINI LIBRARY, BOARD GAMES, WATER ACTIVITIES, WI FI, AND MORE. MARTHA WAS HELPFUL AND RESPECTFUL OF OUR SPACE. SHE EVEN MAILED MY SON'S TEXTBOOK TO US THAT WE'D FORGOTTEN IN HER HOME. ANY QUESTIONS AND/OR CONCERNS WE HAD WAS ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY AND THE COMMUNICATION WAS GREAT. AFTER THE DEATHS OF MY HUSBAND AND MOTHER, IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. THE HOUSE IS SO SPACIOUS AND THE VIEW WILL LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS. IF THERE WAS A DOWNSIDE AT ALL... WE WERE INFORMED THAT WE SHOULDN'T PULL THE LARGE BLIND UP; WHICH WAS DISAPPOINTING, SINCE IT WAS THE MULTI-WINDOW VIEW OF THE LAKE THAT MADE ME CHOOSE THIS PARTICULAR LOCATION. WE GOT AROUND THAT AND TOTALLY ENJOYED OUR GETAWAY. IT WAS EXTREMELY RELAXING. I THINK MY FAVORITE THING WAS LYING IN THE HAMMOCK WATCHING THE SUNRISES, SUNSETS, AND WILDLIFE. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND FOR FAMILIES ESPECIALLY WITH OLDER CHILDREN. AGAIN, I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT THE VIEW WAS AWESOME!!! GOD BLESS...
