DO NOT RENT THIS UNIT unless the following issues are repaired. 1) AC. When we checked in, we were told AC unit was broken but that it had been repaired except they didn't know how long it would stay working. They offered a different room with no view and not updated furnishings. We took our chances and hoped the AC would stay fixed. After 1 day, it was evident that the AC was not working and probably had never been working. Instead of moving to the other room on Day 2 because of no AC (the same room they offered us at check-in), we opted for fans and a partial refund. Good thing the outside temperatures were only in the 70s. 2) Shower drain. The shower did not drain even overnight. 1st maintenance call to fix resulted in it still not draining. 2nd maintenance call on day 3 resulted in it being fixed so that it did drain finally. 3) Curtains. Everytime you open the curtains to see the great view, they fall off the slide rail as the rail at the top is not connected. Also, there are no hangers in the closet/maintenance room and the sofa bed is uncomfortable. Today's date is 4/7/17. The office manager said the AC unit must be replaced and will take 4-6 weeks as it has to be custom ordered.
This was our first time at Top of the Gulf and would definitely consider staying there again. The room was clean and perfect size for a party of two; not sure if 3-4 would be comfortable as the bathroom was rather small. We did have a wonderful gulf front view as advertised but we probably had one of the longest walks to the room but not too much of an issue. I was glad they had 24/7 security and they made sure people there were really guests of the property. Our first morning we noticed back-up water coming up from the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Notified property manager immediately and it wasn't too long before a maintenance worker arrived. He tried but couldn't fix the problem but said he would have to contact another person but it would be fixed before end of the day. We went on to the beach and upon returning late afternoon, whatever the problem was, it was fixed. We were pleased with the quick repair time! The shower doors were not on the tracks good so we had to be careful when showering. We had plenty of bath towels for our stay but kitchen supply was only one dishtowel and dishcloth. Not having WIFI in the room was a minor inconvenience. The first floor manager suggested several good restaurants. Our favorites were Dockside and Pier 77- loved Pier 77 with no wait times, friendly service and fresh delicious food; best fried shrimp I had anywhere and prices were reasonable. I was a little concerned that I wasn't told about the $45 booking fee from Virbo. When I signed the rental agreement it was one price I was quoted then when credit card bill came it was more with this booking fee added. When I called Royal American, they said I was not the first person to express concern about this. Virbo needs to explain this to their customers! Next time I book, I will go through Royal American or directly with condo owners. and I will be sure to share this with family and friends. Top of the Gulf had good prices and was in a convenient location and we enjoyed our stay there.
The location of this room was great. It is on the highest floor in the corner with a beautiful view of the ocean and beach from the window. The location is perfect because it is near the grocery store and many restaurants. It's a quick drive to the lovely St. Andrews Park where we saw some alligators and had a chance to watch the coast guard train. It was a wonderful trip.
