We loved it!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We came from Hawaii to vacation here and we were happy with virtually everything. The house is very charming right from the start because Tia and Mike left us a welcome card and a bottle of wine! We appreciated their hospitality and communication all the way along. The spacious kitchen was great for entertaining our family that lives in the area. (Seems everyone always migrates to the kitchen) The master bedroom is very, very spacious and overlooks the lake. The other homes around here are also very nice as we look at our lake view. The other bedrooms are also very nice and plenty spacious. The living area was very big with nice wide open views of the lake. We loved the knotty pine walls. Even though we were there in March, Mike brought the canoes and paddle-boat over for us to use. We loved going out on the lake even though we had to wear jackets. The sun warmed us up and the lake is very clean. We had a bonfire in the fire ring in the back yard one night. The properties are all on well water but that was not an issue for us. Here are some of the activities we did: Snow skiing at Caberfae Peaks (3 hours north), Detroit Zoo, Ice skating, Mission Science Center, IMAX theater, SkyZone trampoline park in Brighton, Zap Zone (laser tag etc.) in Farmington, Yates Cider Mill (even though it wasn't apple season they were still open), Franklin Cider mill (Fall only) and Greektown in Detroit. We will stay here again when we come back to visit our family. As we say in Hawaii, 'Mahalo' (thank you) Tia and Mike.

5 Nights of Bliss

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the property we were greeted with a bottle of wine and very comfortable beds. The house slept 8 people and 1 child verry comfortably. It was probably by far the most relaxing vacation I've had. The view in the morning was phenomenal and everything we needed was on hand.

Overall, the experience was relaxing, however the home itself could have use a few extra touches to improve the quality of our stay. Furniture is nice and home is well decorated. Half way through owners were able to provide for us (for a reasonable extra fee) a pontoon boat, which greatly improved our stay. When we first arrived, we found pots and pans that were dirty and beat up, some had grease in them from prior tenants. Dishes were not very clean (prior tenant using cheap detergent likely the cause). Upon arrival we had to go out and buy dish soap, automatic dishwasher detergent, toilet paper, a clean dish sponge, paper towel, trash bags, etc..basics you would expect to find provided... the bed pillows were all very old and flat, need to be replaced. The master bedroom has morning sun and very thin covering over patio door that wakes you up at 6AM, could use a thicker, room darkening drape/cover over the upstairs patio door. Kids refused to sleep in the basement due to some very loud ongoing noise. Not sure what that was but it scared our kids so no one used that part of the house. Landscape is in need of some work. Many of the lawn chairs or outdoor furniture were either broken or covered in dirt, but owners quickly brought out new chairs to replace the broken ones for us thankfully. Yard had many weeds and very little added landscape material, though grass was freshly cut so it was ok, just not what we expected.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much much for your review! We appreciate any feedback from guests, so that we can address any issues right away. We investigated the basement noise and could not determine whether it was the furnace & A/C fan or the well pump. Our guess is that the well pump kicked on at night and startled your children? We do require our cleaning people to check the dishes, as one of their many duties. We will speak with them about your issues. Come back next year, and we will spruce up the landscaping for you! Thanks again for your review, Mike & Tia

Well relaxed and ready to work again!

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a clean, quiet, well appointed home that will accommodate a large group, this is your rental. After the home that we've rented for some time was sold, we had to find a new "homeaway". So glad we found this lovely home to relax in. Our adult children and grandkids came and went all week and there was always room for all. While we never met the owners, just emailed, Tia was quick to respond to any queries I had previous to renting and wonderful to work with. No problems during our stay whatsoever, and we arrived to find a bottle of wine and welcome note. We found the interior to be very nice and easy to keep clean. The beds were nice and we slept well. Plenty of towels and bedding. Only downside was the water, which was way over the top with algae and the g-kids couldn't get in and get wet . The logistics to take the kids to the sandbar was difficult with just a paddle boat so unfortunately, they only got to play in the water 2 times. and it was nearly impossible to fish from the dock for the same reason. The sand was a hit though and there were new beach toys for us on our arrival!! All in all this was a lovely week and the speed with which we got our deposit back was the cherry on top! Thank you! thank you!!

Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

Tia and Mike are very kind people who offer their beautiful home for all to enjoy. They work closely with you to make sure you have the best experience possible without overstepping their boundaries. The house was more than spacious for our large family and everyone really enjoyed themselves. White Lake is an all sports lake and offers many fun adventures. The kayaks were a great hit with us. Thank you again for allowing us to host our amazing event.

All the Best,

Jess and Brit

House of Horrors!

  • 1 of 5

I was DISAPPOINTED with this rental. From the reviews and the photos we were excited to stay in this lovely house. To my family's surprise, and there were 9 of us. 4 of which stay in the basement, it was cold and musty and completely infested with SPIDERS. Not to mention we brought a few of those little guys home with us. The 2nd day we noticed the DISHWASHER didn't wash well, so we washed everything by hand. The hot was SCAULDING and we were unable to shower or bath for the week. We had to go to the local recreation center to bath our children. The "beach" was non-existent unless you used a paddle boat of kayak. With ALGAE, floating DEAD birds and muskrats we chose to keep the children out of the water. By the 4th day sleeping arrangements we made. The 4 family members that were in the basement were sleeping on the floor in the living room because the basement had flooded making it an unlivable condition. After contacting the owners on several occasions they tried to fix the water temperature, cable/router, and flooded basement (with fans) but to no avil. PS. there is poison ivy out by the garage! I absolutely would not recommend this property. But hey we got our deposit back! Wish we had gotten a full refund!!

Owner's Response: We are very saddened, shocked, and appalled at your review. As anyone can see from the many other reviews, my wife and I go out of our way make our guests feel comfortable. I suppose that what they say is true... you can't please everyone, and some people just won't be pleased. I'd be remiss if I did not respond to your many allegations... Based on all other feedback, the basement has been very comfortable; some have said that it's one of the most comfortable rooms in the home. It is a basement, there is a de-humidifier, it is a conditioned space, and it is dry. Spiders a fact of life at any lake home. We fumigate the house every few months and have yet to receive any other complaints about spiders (we did not hear of any issue with spiders from you, until you submitted this review). The dishwasher is only a few months’ old and again we received no complaints from you or other guests since we replaced it, until you submitted this review. We would have had someone over to check it out (it's still under warranty) if you had bothered to mention it. We did receive a phone call about an internet issue from you on the first day that you were visiting, and immediately contacted Comcast (who dealt with the issue, evidenced by no further complaints from you). I believe that it was your 3rd day visiting when you called about the "scalding” water. I, myself, was over to the house within a half-hour. I found that an earlier guest must have turned the temperature up to the max heat, and I turned it down for you. We determined that this, incidentally, also caused some water in the basement hallway after the relief pressure valve did its job and released the pressured hot water to avoid serious problems. To remedy the scalding water and wet hallway, I turned the temperature down on the hot water tank, brought over some industrial blowers to dry the small area of wet floor, AND COMPED you a pontoon boat (at our own expense) for the remainder of your stay. The beach is exactly as pictured and described. We were not informed of any other issues (algae, dead animals, poison ivy, etc), until this review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the use of our paddle boats, kayaks, and free pontoon boat.
