We have lived in Kalkaska for the past 26 years.I (Teresa) was even born in the Kalkaska hospital. Therefore, I am a true native! My husband Rick however, is a' transplant' from Plymouth Mi. He moved here to marry me! After this many years here, he is now considered a " Local-Yoko" as well. We have two children. Our son is 23, and our daughter is 14 yrs. old. We have lived out here at Crawford Lake for 23 years now.We love it here and this is why we purchased our lake front cottage in June of 2012. The cottage is just across the lake from our primary home. This makes it perfect for our new venture of renting our cottage as a vacation get away /retreat. Again, we love Crawford Lake so much, as well as the surrounding area , so we thought why not share it with others! So, that's what we did!! We are loving meeting new people and making new friends. Our guests have been wonderful and we are grateful to have had them stay with us. So far, they love it here as much as we do!
Teresa and Rick purchased this house in 2012
What attracted us to the area is the fact that you have access to so many fun and exciting out door activities. There is skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing,dirt-biking, four-wheeling, hiking, boating, swimming, water-skiing, fishing, golf;and the list goes on! It is just so very peaceful and beautiful . The scenery and wildlife are breathtaking, and all you have to do is look out the window! Lastly, we love this location because it is only 20 minutes from Traverse City, Torch Lake and the casinos. Perfect!!
AHH!... The View . Sitting on the deck or dock having a drink and watching the sun set over the lake and trees will leave you speechless. The fall colors over the lake reminds us of being in the smokey mountains mostly due to the fact that this lake is not jam- packed with homes one after the other. The south end of the lake has no homes, just all cedar trees. You may even catch site of the bald eagles that nest on the south end of the lake!
A family of 5 arrived late at night, exhausted from riding the sand buggies at Silver Lake, to late to see the lake. We unloaded and went straight to bed. (The big beds were wonderfully comfortable!) We woke up to a wonderful site, the sun was burning off the morning mist on the lake. We were hooked!
The cabin is wonderfully stocked by the owner and gracious prior guest that have left their leftovers in a "pay it forward" gesture. We cooked every morning, lunch and all but 2 night meals there. The kitchen is well stocked with pans, utensils and all the necessities needed for big meals. Good job and thanks!!
Ever night we had a campfire while we played games or roasted smores.
The host are wonderful people whom are eager to help with the smallest of request, very warm and receiving people. You can tell that they take pride in their establishment on the lake!
We needed a week of disconnecting from our daily lives and this place did the trick. The cabin to be wonderfully located for day trips or short outings around the area.
Oh, should you be out near traverse city you must go to Moomers dairy and get ice cream. We have lived all over the country and this place by far wins as one of my favs!! In fact, would love a scoop right now!!
We are four women who have enjoyed a number of rentals for our annual Valentines Ski Weekend - but this one takes the cake! We felt completely at home in this very cozy and comfortable cottage. Teresa and Rick are excellent and attentive hosts, and they clearly have put a lot of love into this cottage. We lacked for nothing, and cooked some outstanding meals in the well-appointed kitchen. Slept very well! The location put us near so many things to do that it's very convenient, and we were able to sight one of the eagles and the nest. Already planning our next visit!
Teresa and Rick are the greatest hostess we have come across by far. Very friendly and personable, they definitely make you feel at home, away from home. We had a great, relaxing weekend at the cabin and our little dog as well. Super clean, very comfortable with everything you need for a nice weekend getaway. We are already planning our next visit. Go and check it out..you won't regret it.
Quiet, private, clean, and comfortable for either staying and relaxing all day or returning to after day trips in the area. Teresa and Rick are wonderful hosts who welcome you to share their love for the lake and have provided everything you could want in their lake house. Each person in our three generation family went home with wonderful memories. (Our dog loved it, too!) We hope to return in the future. Thank you, Teresa and Rick!
The pictures don't begin to tell the story. This is one of the cleanest, quietest, homiest places I have ever stayed. It was comfortable, relaxing, and perfect for day trips to Traverse City, and to Suttons Bay. The kitchen was clean and well-equipped, the deck was perfect for relaxing and looking out over the lake, and the beds were very comfortable. The owners went out of their way to make the stay welcoming, homey, and easy to arrange. It was absolutely perfect!
Loved our stay. The landlord is a great fun loving guy. He put a lot of time into his place, because it is gorgeous. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Any thing you need is there. All you need to do is bring food and clothes. Everything else is there. What a great place to stay. Already booked us for next year. Looking to book in the winter for snowmobiling. Loved it. I like how clean and well kept the place is. Loved the setting on the water and how peaceful it Is even on a weekend. Looking forward to our stay next year. Well worth the price.
The Sleeping Bear Dunes and Mackinac Island are great day trip's from our cottage; as is Leland County for their wine tours. Traverse City is only 25 min. away and is home to the Cherry Festival. Also, snowmobile and RV enthusiasts can leave right from our cottage in order to hook up with the main riding trails. Lastly, Turtle Creek Casino's and Resort is only 20 minutes away. Schuss and Shanty Creek are only 25 minutes away for your skiing and sledding fun and Torch Lake is just 20 minutes away as well! There are so many choices for everyone's up north get away adventures!
