About Teresa and Rick

We have lived in Kalkaska for the past 26 years.I (Teresa) was even born in the Kalkaska hospital. Therefore, I am a true native! My husband Rick however, is a' transplant' from Plymouth Mi. He moved here to marry me! After this many years here, he is now considered a " Local-Yoko" as well. We have two children. Our son is 24, and our daughter is 15 yrs. old. We have lived out here at Crawford Lake for 25 years now.We love it here and this is why we purchased our lake front cottage in June of 2012. The cottage is just across the lake from our primary home. This makes it perfect for our new venture of renting our cottage as a vacation get away /retreat. Again, we love Crawford Lake so much, as well as the surrounding area , so we thought why not share it with others! So, that's what we did!! We are loving meeting new people and making new friends. Our guests have been wonderful and we are grateful to have had them stay with us. So far, they love it here as much as we do!

Teresa and Rick purchased this house in 2012

Why Teresa and Rick chose Northern Michigan

What attracted us to the area is the fact that you have access to so many fun and exciting out door activities. There is skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing,dirt-biking, four-wheeling, hiking, boating, swimming, water-skiing, fishing, golf;and the list goes on! It is just so very peaceful and beautiful . The scenery and wildlife are breathtaking, and all you have to do is look out the window! Lastly, we love this location because it is only 20 minutes from Traverse City, Torch Lake and the casinos. Perfect!!

What makes this house unique

AHH!... The View . Sitting on the deck or dock having a drink and watching the sun set over the lake and trees will leave you speechless. The fall colors over the lake reminds us of being in the smokey mountains mostly due to the fact that this lake is not jam- packed with homes one after the other. The south end of the lake has no homes, just all cedar trees. You may even catch site of the bald eagles that nest on the south end of the lake!

EXTREMELY AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

Not enough characters to describe our visit! Issues arise from time to time that are unavoidable and stressful and come without warning. This was thee most extreme case of that for all involved. But from the minute we were made aware, it was smooth sailing! Teresa and Rick were above and beyond accommodating, hospitable, attentive and friendly. Kind of a dreary wet week with a day or 2 of sunshine. Awesome sights nearby though. Lake was amazing, our parents came with their seaplane so that was enjoyable. We had a magnificent time and would love to add this to our list of favorite cottages to stay. We can't thank Teresa and Rick enough, as well as their neighbors. This review made me a bit misty eyed, but it's just a reflection on the owners and how amazing and special they made us feel. Thank you Rick and Teresa you'll be getting a Christmas card ;) !!

Owner's Response: Thank you from the bottom of my heart Lynette! You and your family are so kind , understanding and compassionate and we can't thank you enough for truly understanding what we were going through. That being said, we are so glad you had a great time in spite of the weather! You and your family were the hit of the Crawford Lake peeps! They all loved your parents seaplane and went running to the water to take pictures as they landed and took off! How cool! Thank you for ALL you did for us, and please know your picture will be displayed proudly at the cottage. You touched my heart with it and your kindness. Take care, and God Bless till we meet again!

Relaxation and Beautiful Sunsets

  • 5 of 5

We spent July 29-Aug. 5, 2017 in this cozy cottage. First of all, Rick and Teresa are some of the nicest people on the planet! They show pride in ownership and want to do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They met us at the cottage, showed us around and gave a thorough orientation to the cottage. They even gave us some great recommendations for dinner in Traverse City for our anniversary. The cottage is clean and the kitchen has everything you can think of. The cupboards and fridge have plenty of "leftover" items from previous guests for you to use. Rick and Teresa have a garage on the property that we were able to leave our bikes in. Oh, and the sunsets...... some of the most beautiful we have ever seen! We watched each evening from the fire pit at the edge of the lake(fire wood was provided). We never got around to using the paddle boat or the canoes, but rather enjoyed our time relaxing in our tubes or fishing. We had a few rainy days, but quickly busied ourselves checking out the wineries on Old Mission Peninsula near Traverse City and took a trip to Petoskey to shop. Our 2 border collies were welcome as well, we all enjoyed our stay at this lovely lake and look forward to coming back!

Relaxing and great location

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting places for years and this one is one of our favorites. Rick and Teresa are great to work with. It is clean, comfy furniture, and well stocked. Having 1 1/2 bathrooms is nice! The view is awesome! We had lots of meals sitting out on the deck. The water is nice and sandy bottomed, which is great.

We also were able to go to a lot of spots around there to sight see. Cherry Street Market in downtown Kalkaska is one of my favorite places and the dairy nearby is wonderful too! It is close to Traverse City, but still quiet and when you are at the cottage.

Thanks Rick and Teresa for sharing your wonderful place.

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend renting Teresa & Rick's Crawford Lake Cottage. Teresa is an ABSOLUTE DARLING and a pleasure to do business with. The cottage was super clean and was stocked well beyond our expectations. You don't need to bring ANYTHING. There was even liquor in the freezer that was left behind by other renters! The towels are clean and smell like a hotel. The linens were clean and fresh. The beds were as comfortable as home. We felt very at home and enjoyed our stay thoroughly - would definitely return. The dogs loved swimming in the lake and the kids LOVED the paddle boat. She also has kayaks there that were available to use. We had no trouble getting our 20' aluminum inboard/outboard motored boat in and out and enjoyed using it on the lake. We wished we had brought our towable, but maybe next time. We didn't have much luck fishing, but sure enjoyed trying. Overall this rental pleasantly exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Teresa & Rick, for a wonderful getaway!

Wonderful.....and more

  • 5 of 5

A family of 5 arrived late at night, exhausted from riding the sand buggies at Silver Lake, to late to see the lake. We unloaded and went straight to bed. (The big beds were wonderfully comfortable!) We woke up to a wonderful site, the sun was burning off the morning mist on the lake. We were hooked!

The cabin is wonderfully stocked by the owner and gracious prior guest that have left their leftovers in a "pay it forward" gesture. We cooked every morning, lunch and all but 2 night meals there. The kitchen is well stocked with pans, utensils and all the necessities needed for big meals. Good job and thanks!!

Ever night we had a campfire while we played games or roasted smores.

The host are wonderful people whom are eager to help with the smallest of request, very warm and receiving people. You can tell that they take pride in their establishment on the lake!

We needed a week of disconnecting from our daily lives and this place did the trick. The cabin to be wonderfully located for day trips or short outings around the area.

Oh, should you be out near traverse city you must go to Moomers dairy and get ice cream. We have lived all over the country and this place by far wins as one of my favs!! In fact, would love a scoop right now!!
