About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

This downtown apartment is a two bedroom, 1 bath unit that has been totally renovated with stainless appliances, hardwood floors, and slate tile. The open plan between kitchen and living room is great for entertaining. The comfortable living room includes a large flat-panel TV and a charming freestanding gas fireplace. There is a walk-in closet with a washer/dryer, and plenty of closet storage -- including shoe racks.

Our location is ideal in downtown Sandpoint, within walking distance of City Beach, the Marina, all the downtown restaurants, live music, wine bars, and shopping including outdoor gear shops, a bike shop, and lots of gift and antiques shops. In the summer, enjoy Sandpoint's lively farmer's market just down the street with live music, local produce and crafts. Please note that the condo is right downtown, in the heart of everything, which is about as urban as Sandpoint gets! Our guests love the location for its convenience and access, but if you are looking for waterfront or mountain views, this is probably not the place for you!

Did you know Sandpoint has a free local bus? There's a stop only about a block away from our apartment, and you can ride the SPOT bus to the Schweitzer base for a ride to the village, stores in Ponderay, and anywhere else you'd want to go around the Sandpoint area. You can also access bike and walking paths within a block or two of the front door.

And while we offer a great location to walk or bike from, you'll also enjoy off-street parking for your own vehicle giving you freedom to get up to Schweitzer or access more remote hiking areas or day-trip locations.

About Charles Manning

My wife and I lived in this great apartment when we first moved to Sandpoint. it was once a restaurant and we completely refinished it to be a downtown metro-feel apartment that we could enjoy. It's close to great food and bars and it super comfortable. We loved being in the middle of everything downtown in this great small town!

While we lived in the apartment while we re-finished our craftsman house in south Sandpoint. We moved here from Washington DC and before that - San Francisco.

We'd love to have you as our guests!

Charles Manning purchased this condo in 2006

Why Charles Manning chose Lake Pend Oreille

We want to share this great location with others. Sandpoint is fantastic for skiing, the summer music Festival at Sandpoint, or just a summer vacation to enjoy our beautiful Lake Pend d'Oreille.

What makes this condo unique

This location offers guests a true Sandpoint experience in a beautiful, comfortable apartment. Miss nothing by being right downtown! Enjoy a fantastic day of skiing at the beautiful Schweitzer Mt. Resort, and end the evening with a great dinner with friends, a glass of wine at one of the bars, and a short stroll home.

Comfortable and spacious

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a 5-night stay over the Christmas holidays at this 2-bedroom condo, a good value for the cost. Since we were grateful for previous reviewers' information, we will try to do the same.

The many positives: spacious; fast, reliable wifi; comfortable queen bed/bedding in the master; great kitchen: fully stocked, nothing lacking; washer/dryer in a large laundry room with plenty of shelving: fantastic for all our ski gear; a very clean condo which appeared to be newly painted: no marks on the walls whatsoever; plenty of towels, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry/cleaning supplies; and a downtown location: a close walk to restaurants, shops and city beach. We also enjoyed the games, small gas fireplace (the owner was immediately responsive when we couldn't initially get it working, then it was fine), two tvs, oversized comfy sofa and chair, and (with our skis and boots) a ground floor/park-at-your-door apartment. Inside, it was surprisingly quiet given the downtown location.

We suggest:

A bed, futon or daybed for the second bedroom (thanks to previous reviewers, we knew to bring a queen-size air mattress to put on top of the queen pullout mattress, which is truly unfit for sleeping on), blackout blinds for the master bedroom, and finally (and this may be highly subjective), although my husband and I appreciated that all bedding was laundry-fresh upon check in, we suggest a fabric softener with a less intensive scent. (The overwhelming scent actually did interfere with our sleep).

Overall, we would definitely recommend this vacation rental, best for a couple or small family. The owner was a pleasure to deal with throughout the process. Although perhaps not our choice for a summer accommodation (some would still appreciate the downtown convenience, though), we would choose this condo again on future ski trips. It was perfect for my husband, I and our teenager- plenty of room for all three of us to spread out.

A great stay; convenient location

  • 4 of 5

This condo was in an unexpected spot downtown - your own secret hideaway hidden in plain view. Though I agree with another reviewer that there isn't a view or outdoor area of any kind, this place IS in fact in a great spot for walking to everything in the small downtown, including the beautiful Lake Pend O'Reille. (Go rent a jet ski at Action Water Sports around the corner, it's fantastic!!) The condo is newly redone and super clean. The kitchen was practically nicer than ours at home. PLENTY of room for the two of us, too. We appreciated the use of a washer and dryer, having driven from a previous few days spent in Montana. Also appreciated the cable TV (we watched lots of Olympics when it rained one day)! One word of warning for those of you who have never been to Sandpoint: Lots of one-way streets! Beware (speaking from, ahem, experience). :P On that note, I'll tell you that even the local police force is quite friendly, ha. Thank you again to Charles and also to Suzy for offering to be available for questions and recommendations. Much appreciated!

Sandpoint condo

  • 4 of 5

We have a great time staying in this condo in downtown Sandpoint . It was in a great location. We also loved the layout of the condo and how nice and clean it was. The only suggestion we have is putting a bed in the extra bedroom instead of a sofa bed. The sofa bed was not comfortable for two adults.

Thanks

Great spot in town...best kept secret!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay in this one unit apartment was great. It is very spacious, convenient to everything! Lots of flex space in the unit if you need to be set up to work while away. Communication with the Owner was very good...quick response time when I had questions prior to our arrival. If you need the ambiance of a view or outdoor dining options etc.. this unit would not be the one. It is however, close to the City beach (which is amazing) and you can certainly experience all that Sandpoint has to offer from this central location. We would definitely stay here again :)

Great Location, Uncomfortable Pull-Out Bed

  • 3 of 5

You can't beat the location of this condo, as long as you don't mind facing a parking lot. Although the outside of the condo is rather non-descript and difficult to find in the dark, the inside has been nicely remodeled. It was comfortable for three adults, with the exception of the pull-out bed that is in the second bedroom. The mattress is so thin and uncomfortable that my brother had to put it on the floor, which only made it slightly more comfortable for him. I personally don't see how the second bedroom doubling as an office makes much sense for people on vacation. The owners should really consider putting a real bed in the second bedroom.

One other item that luckily did not turn out to be an issue was that we had two cars but the owners only provided one parking pass, and you can't leave your car on the street. I called the owner to get another pass but we never received another one.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Sandpoint. It's a very cute town with good restaurants and great skiing.

Notes:
Sandpoint is such a great town, and the benefit of being in the heart of it all is that you can take advantage of so much within walking distance: Rent a paddle board or kayak just across First avenue and explore Sand Creek; go for a run along the scenic Ponderay Bay Trail; visit Evans Brothers on Fifth avenue for award-winning coffee; rent a power boat for the day and explore the lake or go fishing; take a bike ride up onto the surrounding trails or do a grueling road-bike workout by riding up Schweitzer Mountain Road; walk to Italian, Meditteranean, or Thai restaurants, or enjoy the local pubs, breweries and wine bars. It's a lot of fun in Sandpoint, and when you stay in the heart of downtown, you can leave your car parked and take advantage of it all!
