Dennis and Karen Stoner and their four children milked about 100 cows until 2008. Dennie continues to farm corn, soybeans, alfalfa and barley

The Old Summer House offers serenity and beauty in the country. It is located on a working farm that has been in Karen's family for four generations.
Quiet and restful get away in beautiful Lancaster County.
We were delighted to have you and your family stay in The Old Summer House. We are glad to see kids enjoy the out of doors, by the pond, riding the pedal carts or running barefoot in the yard. You are right, the firepit is only a request away. It was slow in coming out of storage due to the cool, rainy weather this spring.
Hope to see you all again.
We loved staying at the Summer House. The Stoners are a wonderful family. They showed us around their farm. It was so beautiful. The stores and laundromat are nearby. Our kids swam in the pond and we had plenty of room for all six of us. The kitchen allowed us to cook food and not eat fast food all the time. Thanks again.
Charming old summer cottage attached to the back of an 1830's farmhouse. Clean and functional. Private entrance and key. Stayed with 2 adults, a teen and 3 children. Had plenty of room for sleeping. The owners, Dennis and Karen are nice and accommodating....not intrusive at all and give you plenty of privacy. Great communication. Neighboring farmhouse tenants were nice and waived hello.
The kids had a wonderful time freely running around outside on the farm, walking around the pond spotting Koi fish, using the pedal go-cart on the paved lane and playing on the swing set and with the friendly dog, Roxy. Bring a good camera and take some photos of your kids. Very nice setting for that.
Our 9 yr old daughter decided this was the "best place we ever stayed" and she didn't want to leave! We travel often and usually stay at Marriott or Hilton/Embassy Suites but she would rather skip the luxury and pool and come here again :-)
Everything you need for a 2 night or even a week stay is pretty much already supplied in the summer house. Just bring your clothes and some food to fill the fridge. Fully equipped kitchen. Satellite TV worked well. They are refurbishing the inside of the old barn. It's looking very nice inside. If you like to eat make sure to visit Shady Maple down the road. We didn't have any problems at all. We will definitely be back again. Thanks!
Another review mentioned a problem with not having enough hot water. This was NOT the case when we stayed. We were all easily able to shower and do dishes....the hot water didn't run out.
We would have liked to sit around a fire at night and I didn't notice a fire pit (if I had bothered to ask, maybe they would have supplied one?) Also the wifi signal could have been a bit stronger. So maybe an improved antenna/router would help. Those would be my only suggestions to make a great place even better.

Had a wonderful time. Close to many attractions. Accommodations were very clean. Friendly atmosphere
Terrific stay that our three young children truly enjoyed. The owners were wonderful and gladly accommodated our last minute arrival even thought they were away themselves. The kids had a blast on the carts and swing set and even took a dip in the pond! Looking out from the upstairs window says it all about the beauty and serenity of the farm and area. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
We stayed here while other family was at grandma and grandpa's. The steep stairs made us a little nervous with small children, but everything else was wonderful. Our host provided a pack and play, the dog and cats and fireflies provided entertainment, and the setting was beautiful! All in all it was a great stay. We'd come back again.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The farm country is peaceful and incredibly beautiful, with farm stands, quaint shops, and ordinary grocery stores within easy reach. There are some truly unique architectural elements about the house, including exposed roof beams upstairs, that were really fun to see.
I would strongly recommend it for families traveling with kids. The dog and two cats were very friendly and with the swing set right outside, our children were infinitely happier running around in the fresh air than they would have been cooped up in a hotel room.
The kitchen was very comfortably and practically furnished, even including useful items like foil wrap, and the living area was comfortably spacious, including a table that actually seats four rather than having room for two to eat with four chairs crowded round it. The outdoor space is nice as well, and we loved that little iron table and chairs outside.
A few caveats: While recommending the place for kids, it does have stairs, so if yours are mobile but not used to stairs, it would be more challenging. The hot water heater is pretty small (adequate for about a 15 min shower before being completely empty) so, while there's adequate bedding for 4-6 adults, finding time for them all to shower in the morning if they all prefer to do so then might be a challenge. There was a massive storm one night resulting in a twelve-hour power outage and limited water due to lack of power to the pump. It didn't seem like that would be a frequent occurrence, but it might be wise to keep a pitcher of drinking water filled if there are storms expected. I also wouldn't recommend the place to people with severe allergies. There was a bit of old-house mustiness, especially under certain cupboards. It wasn't severe but by the time we left our allergic family had some sniffles.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others, and probably stay there again (definitely if not for the allergy issues).
