Georgina Campbell, one of Ireland's top travel writers describes Dungarvan best. "the west of the county is still one of Ireland's best kept secrets, a place of remarkable beauty between the Knockmealdown, Comeragh and Monavullagh mountains, where fish-filled rivers such as the Bride, the Blackwater, and the Nire make their way seawards at different speeds through valleys of remarkable variety and beauty, past pretty towns and villages".
New York Times travel section recommends Dungarvan as a foodie destination.

Colleen purchased this house in 2012
This house has a romantic story for my parents. Its where they first met 40 years ago. They fell for each other over the door step while my mother was visiting a family friend and my father was being a rogue. After the old owners passed away, my mother bought this property for all the right reasons. The love that has been poured into making this house the perfect retreat can be sensed the second you walk through the door. Luxury and convenience often do not go hand in hand but in this case, they are best friends.
Our luxury retreat is the perfect location for winter or summer holidays. In summer, we make the most of the coastal location by visiting all the nearby beaches, harbors and cliffs. And in winter, we cosy up by the Stanley wood-burning stove or go to one of the many local lively pubs where the music plays til early into the morning.
The house is located at the beginning of the beautiful Waterford Greenway which runs along a former historic railway line and takes travelers between the country’s oldest city, Waterford, and the bustling foodie town of Dungarvan.
Colleen and Kathy are the best hosts! We rent all over the world and were impressed with this Accommodation, location and hosts. Dungarvan is a lovely town with much to explore both in the town and surrounding area. Thank you for such a wonderful visit!
This property is extremely well located and accessible to all roads. It was very clean and well stocked. The kitchen, laundry were very modern and efficient. The two bathrooms were excellent.
The house was a beautiful little cottage in the centre of everything in Dungarvan, shopping, walking and eating. It was very central in our travels as we explored other parts of the southern part of Ireland.
A beautiful spacious cottage. Our stay could not have been nicer - we enjoyed every minute we spent in Dungarvan. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.
House was roomy and comfortable. Bath showers a little tricky, but we made them work. Kitchen was set up with the essentials we needed to do light quick breakfasts, then on the road for touring. Dungarvan proved to be a great location for all of the places we wanted to see in the south central area of Ireland. Several nice places to eat in Dungarvan too...great lamb stew at the Shamrock Cafe! We would recommend Colleen's house for a stay in the Dungarvan area. Mike from Montana.
What a wonderful welcome by Kathy to this lovely well-resourced and well-maintained cottage. The cottage offered a home-from-home experience. The provision of an ample food parcel was much appreciated upon our late arrival from the ferry. Our three generation party - grandparents, parents and children, found the cottage ideally laid out for a family group, and its location ideal for wondering into Dungarvan town centre and down to the harbour, park and seashore. The views from the seashore are second to none - why is this area not better known?
The town is located on the main Waterford to Cork road so it provides easy access to such gems as Helvick Head, Ring, and Ardmore to the south, and the glorious Copper Coast Drive - don't miss Ballydowane Bay. Dungarvan is also renowned for its cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed Interlude and Meade's cafes for lunch and found Murphy's Bar just right for that special meal.
We have already sung the cottage's praises to friends and relatives and would have no hesitation in going back again when the circumstances allow.
Dungarvan is a stunning town on the coast between Waterford and Cork, 5 minutes from the beach and only 15 minutes from Ardmore.
Dungarvan is surrounded by such natural beauty as sandy beaches, colourful mountains and deep rivers.
Dungarvan is famous for its abundance of glorious golf courses; The Gold Coast, West Waterford Golf club and Dungarvan Golf club.
As far as food-lovers go, our coastal location offers a feast for the senses. the Tannery, The Moorings and Merry's Gastropub all offer a feast, and indeed entertainment, fit for a king. Dungarvan's renowned Waterford Food Festival 2016 is taking place on 14th-17th April this year.
Every outdoor enthusiast will enjoy a trip to this part of west Waterford. Locals are extremely proud of the newly opened Deise Greenway, a green way path for cycling, running and walking. It is truly a magnificent addition to this already fabulous location.
Waterford Greenway, the longest off-road walking and cycling experience in Ireland officially opened in March 2017. The eagerly awaited €15 million project stretches 46km from Waterford City to Dungarvan along the former Great Southern and Western Railway line.
The major tourism initiative now features in the Atlantic Coast Route of EuroVelo, a long distance cycling network connecting Europe. It is also part of Fáilte Ireland’s Ancient East experience.
Deep Sea Fishing, angling, whale watching and bird watching are popular amongst both tourists and locals.
Each April there is an excellent celebration of food know as 'West Waterford Food Festival'. Its a great weekend to be located in the town, a stones throw from the food trails and farmers market
