Hi, we are Daniel and Teresa Ford of Cosby, Tennessee. We were born and raised in East Tennessee in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Daniel, his dad, and his brother owned a business for many years and now he is enjoying retirement. I was a stay home mom of three boys and now we are enjoying being grandparents.
Daniel Ford purchased this cabin in 2010
The property has been in the Ford family for many generations and Daniel's dad built the cabin in 2010. Sadly, his dad passed away in October 2014. Going to Grassy Fork is getting away from the pressures of the everyday life. There is no cell phone service but we do have internet, wifi and landline. There is only peace and quiet and the enjoyment of God's beautiful creation. We go up often just to take advantage of the serenity which we hope you will enjoy too.
The beautiful mountain setting, with the quiet flowing creek, invites you to relax and sit awhile on the front porch taking in the wildlife and the sunsets.
On 10/24/2015 we had the first wedding on the property. It was a beautiful setting with fall colors all around.
Daniel was a great host - answering questions as they came up before and during the stay. The property is large (inside and out) and was plenty of safe for 3 adults and a dog to enjoy for a week. The house/cabin is not near anything, which was great for us, but be ready for a 30+ minute drive to get groceries, etc. The cabin was clean, updated, and had all the linens and a/c one could ask for. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with microwave, stove/oven, fridge w/ ice maker, dishwasher and pots and pans. The downstairs king bed is soft, upstairs king bed is more firm. The den off the main living/ dining/ kitchen area was great for relaxing with direct tv (and recording capability), dvd player, couch, love seat, and chair, plus an extra lounge in the back. I would love to come back and visit - lots of space indoors and out to roam and find some peace. The stars at night are great!
Response from Daniel:
Thanks Sara for coming. Your welcome anytime. Say hello to your folks. kindest regards, Daniel
What Sara loved about your listing:
Smooth stay, well quipped house.
Beautiful home tucked deep in the mountain. Just a short drive to attractions like white water rafting or Gatlinburg.
We stayed a week with our three boys (ages 13, 10, 2). There was plenty of room to spread out and keep everyone happy. Grandma and Grandpa came for a few days and had a first floor bedroom and bath all to themselves!
We watched wild turkey run around the pond in the morning and rocked in rocking chairs each night listening to crickets.
The baby fed the fish each morning. It was relaxing as a parent as we could let the big boys explore and could watch from the porch while they messed around in the creek or fished in the pond. My Gosh! The size of the fish they pulled out!
We used the paddle boat almost everyday. The highlight for us was driving up Snowbird mountain and hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
The house is spectacular with every accommodation and Mr Ford was a pleasure to work with while booking.
We will absolutely be back!
My only suggestion would be bigger coffee cups! I could sit on the porch FOREVER rocking and sipping coffee :)
I cannot say enough about this beautiful home and property. Owner Daniel is wonderful to work with and quickly fulfills any request. Plenty of room in the house, bring your fishing poles for catch and release fishing in the stocked pond, my husband caught a 5 pound bass peddling around the pond in the paddle boat that is provided, the kids caught several yearling bass and bream thoughout the week. The stream is nice and cold, very refreshing. The grandkids enjoyed sitting and looking for special rocks. I got a $1.97 float at Walmart and layed it in the stream to lay on. My husband made a recliner out of rocks and sat in the stream leaning against the rocks. There is a cornhole game and we had tournaments every night. Don 't forget the ingredients for smores, the fire pit by the stream is nice. Early mornings, you can sit on the front porch in the rockers and watch for the turkeys to come out around the pond. My mom enjoyed watching them several mornings. We will be back to visit. We loved it! Daniel the only suggestion we have, is label the light switches. There are a lot of ceiling fans and lights in the house and on the porches and it was difficult to figure them all out, lol. Thanks for your hospitality Daniel. We highly recommend this property!
The trip began with the owner meeting us at a gas station to lead us to the cabin to ensure we found it without mishap. The cabin itself is brand new and beautiful. The location is remote but that's what we were looking for. We didn't want to go to a "community" of cabins that are on top of each other. The property is beautiful with a lovely pond with a paddle boat that my kids got a kick out of. And if you want to have a little city mixed in with your trip, gatlinburg and pigeon forge are within an hours drive. Loved it. Hope to go again someday!
We were so happy with our stay at your cabin. There was so much room that everyone could spread out for individual visits or we could all be together! We enjoyed the wood heater and sitting around it visiting. The kitchen is very big and easy for several to work in. The stove was super nice. We had no problem sleeping all the Grandkids and our adult kids. We absolutely loved the barn, feeding the fish in the pond, putting corn out for turkeys. We made beautiful pictures by the streams and on the small bridges over the streams and by the barn. We all enjoyed watching the turkeys everyday and at one time there were 14-15. We also rode up Snowbird Mt behind the cabin and walked on the Appalachian Trail and took pictures there too. The pictures we saw before we booked were exact but really didn't do justice to the cabin and its surroundings. The property was very well taken care of and clean. We kept our clothes washed and dried so we didn't come home with lots of dirty clothes. The owner took good care of us and checked regularly to see if we needed anything. If you like beautiful scenery and peace and tranquility you will love this place. A great getaway to rest and relax. Wish I could add pictures!
We had an excellent time staying in this cabin! Daniel made sure we had all the information we needed while researching our trip and made some excellent hiking trail recommendations. We had everything we needed in the cabin, including firewood for the outdoor campfire and indoor wood-burning stove, towels, dishes, and extremely comfortable beds and sheets! I would recommend this place to a friend in a heartbeat. It was wonderful to get away from the hustle and bustle of our lives in Nashville and look up at a beautiful sea of stars. There was more than enough space for our 8 guests-- it felt both cozy and spacious at the same time!
Our stay was amazing, the photos on here doesn't do the property justice. It was absolutely breath taking! Mr. Ford was so polite. The property was immaculate. Everything was spotless when we arrived. The pond was beautiful. It was everything I thought it would be an more. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and will definitely go back and stay again.
This Home Away home is in a tranquil area. It is a great place to get back to nature, read a book or lounge by an open fire. There are horse stables available for those who would bring horses. Fishing in the lake/pond is permitted. Snowbird mountain scenic drive can be made with AWD or 4WD vehicles. There are hiking trails nearby and can be accessed from the cabin. The Appalachian Trail is accessible from top of Snowbird mountain or from Waterville exit off I-40.
