About Uljana Zamaslo

My first visit to Lviv was in the Summer of 1991, before the fall of the Soviet Union. I fell in love not only with Lviv but specifically with Virmenska Street. I moved to Ukraine in 2008 and couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase this, pretty much my dream house. I bought it for myself, my daughter and doggie to live in. Things change, I can't wait to get back there, but until I do....

Uljana Zamaslo purchased this apartment in 2011

What makes this apartment unique

Space. It's big and bright. Not many regular apartments are this big in Lviv. Not having all the fluff allows for a more reasonable price. Location, of see a ancient piece of history out every window. On New Year's Eve the inner courtyard is completely covered with fireworks...Yet we're just enough away (1 block) from the main square (Ploshcha Rynok or Market Square) that you can still sleep if there's a concert on.

Every inch of this city is permeated with history and culture. Lviv was a merchant crossroad. Many ethnic groups lived harmoniously here for centuries; four were the backbone of this city: the Ukrainians, Jews, Poles and Armenians. They were the threads that were woven together to create the tapestry of this unique city. Churches are probably the most common historic structure in Lviv as every group had their own...Interestingly enough the three churches which represented the largest of Lviv's Christian populations all coincidentally carry the same name...the Polish Cathedral, the Armenian Cathedral and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church...They are all the named in honor of the Assumption of Mary. The Golden Rose Synagogue which served the largest non-Christian community in Lviv was destroyed by the Nazis in 1942. From the Museum of Religion (right next door) there are underground tours where you can see the sewage system which saved the lives of countless Jews, gypsies, Ukrainians and others during WWII.
