Come celebrate the Palm Springs Midcentury Modern lifestyle in this iconic 1961“butterfly” Alexander private home located in the ultra hip Racquet Club Estates neighborhood. You're just down the street from the legendary Riviera Hotel and Racquet Club Resort where Hollywood celebrities like the Rat Pack, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra came to play. Designed by famed architect William Krisel, this vacation getaway epitomizes the modernist and minimalist principles of the Desert Modern Era with post & beam construction, clerestory windows, soaring rooflines, decorative masonry rock, tongue & groove exposed wood beam ceilings and an open floor plan melding the indoor/outdoor living spaces.

Lovingly preserved and stylishly updated with all the 21st century modern conveniences, you’ll find everything necessary for a perfect desert vacation. Furnished with comfort and style in mind, this home combines a mix of vintage décor, contemporary colorful art, laminate wood floors and modern accents. The expansive great room with dramatic ceilings and walls of glass brighten the living space with generous natural light and take advantage of the abundant Palm Springs sun. Relax on the large sectional sofa watching the 42” flat screen TV with Blu-ray DVD player and movie library or listen to your favorite music on the stereo, CD player or IPOD. On those cool desert evenings cozy up to the natural gas fireplace and enjoy a nice meal at the comfortable retro dining table with extensions to seat 6-8 people. You can also dine alfresco on the 6-person glass outdoor table.

The updated kitchen features glass mosaic countertops, space-age metal & glass cabinets and stainless steel appliances including a double sink, professional series 6-burner gas range, Maytag refrigerator with ice maker and Bosch dishwasher. The kitchen is conveniently open to the living and dining areas perfect for entertaining guests or keeping the chef company.

All three bedrooms have loads of dresser & closet space, soaring exposed beam ceilings and beautiful mountain views from the clerestory windows. The private master suite at the end of the hallway provides a respite from the daily activities with CA King bed, flat screen TV, sliding glass door leading to outside spa patio and en suite bath with outside door to pool area. The other 2 guest bedrooms have a King and Queen size bed.

Both bathrooms have sunken tubs with charcoal tiled showers, large vessel sinks, vanity storage cabinets and are tastefully updated with modern fixtures & accessories. Plenty of towels and linens are also provided.

The crown jewel of this property is the abundant outdoor living space completely walled & gated with masonry and corrugated metal fencing, providing a private oasis for enjoying all your leisure activities. Beautiful desert gardens enhance the picturesque setting with towering palm trees, cacti, poodled olive tree, hedges, grasses and succulents. By day, float aimlessly in the deep heated SALT WATER pool, soak in the sun and majestic mountain views from lounge chairs on the West-facing sundeck or relax under the covered patio with a cool drink. By night, enjoy cocktails and conversation seated around the natural gas glass crystal fire pit. Or, soak your cares away in the 6-person Jacuzzi spa under a canopy of twinkling desert stars and marvelous mountain vistas. A natural gas stainless steel BBQ and plenty of pool floats are provided to complete the perfect outdoor experience.

Other amenities include a covered carport, Maytag washer & dryer in the bedroom hallway, Wifi, phone service with unlimited long distance to US & Canada and cable TV. For the utmost guest comfort, this house provides a new furnace, A/C, updated plumbing, new awnings, new fencing, new concrete pavers and a new gas fire pit.

About Daria

We purchased this home as a warm winter escape from the cold Minnesota weather. We were automatically drawn to the unique design of the mid-century modern style and decided to own our own piece of Palm Springs history. Vacationing in Palm Springs many times, we fell in love with the clean desert air and sunny year round temperatures. Although we don't get a chance to spend too much time in the desert, we hope others will enjoy the warmth, solace and rejuvenation this desert getaway has to offer.

Daria purchased this house in 2007

Why Daria chose Palm Springs

We chose the Racquet Club Estates neighborhood for its historical significance, large private lots, panoramic mountain views and close proximity to all the major attractions. Within a short bike ride, you'll find coffee houses, live theatre, restaurants, boutiques, Spa Resort Casino, art galleries and much more.

What makes this house unique

The qualities of this unique home that make is so special to us are the authentic mid-century architecture design and cool retro vibe. It's a 1961 Krisel design with vintage furnishings and modern day amenities. There are so many activities to enjoy while visiting this home, including lounging by the pool, swimming, soaking in the spa, gathering around the fire pit at night or sipping cocktails or have morning coffee under the covered lanai.

Another great feature this property location has to offer is its proximity to Victoria Park. A beautiful public park with volleyball court, picnic tables, children's playground and plenty of grass for playing with your dog.

Spring Break Sensation

  • 5 of 5

Picture it, a group of teachers from the east coast needed a vacation in a beautiful city with the perfect rental house. Low and behold we come across the Racquet Club Retreat which was in a perfect location with amazing views from the pool. The house was wonderfully furnished and instantly felt like home. The kitchen and grill area were perfect for cooking. All the bedrooms were well decorated and also provided beautiful views of the mountain range. Daria could not have been more helpful and answered all questions promptly. It has been a few weeks since our stay and we can not stop raving about our stay.

Breezy stay in comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

Our two months in the Racquet Club Retreat were, indeed, a retreat. The house is light, comfortable, well designed and up to date. The living room and dining area were cozy for two and comfortable when we had guests. The kitchen and the outdoor grill made cooking at home a pleasure. The kitchen was well outfitted for a rental. The linens were abundant and of fine quality.

The pool was of generous size and well maintained. The neighborhood is extremely quiet. The only negative is not house specific, the occasional winds in that part of Palm Springs might be a problem for some.

Daria and Stacy, the managers, were extremely accommodating and responsive. We liked the house so much that we rebooked for next year.

That makes it five stars in our book!

Highly recommended!!!

  • 5 of 5

Rented the property for a last minute getaway around New Year’s. The communication with the property manager, Daria, was beyond easy. She replied promptly to all my questions and concerns, was clear with the information provided, and very helpful in general. I’ve never had such an easy and pleasant experience while looking for a vacation rental.

The house itself was even better than the impression we got from looking at the pictures online. Clean, fresh, and very nicely decorated.

The beds are comfortable, and we found lots of towels and extra pillows in the closets. The property managers provided easy to follow information about all the amenities available in the house. We are foodies, and were happy to find out the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals, whether it was cooking in the kitchen, or using the great outdoor grill. The back yard is a real oasis… Sit around the fire pit with a glass of wine, or enjoy the heated pool. The spa is great for 3 adults.

I’ve rented a number of properties in PS in the past, and this one is my favorite to date! Thank you, Daria!

Excellent Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (parents and two 7 year-olds) stayed here for a week in November 2016. We have stayed in many vacation rentals, and this one was excellent. The house was well laid out, and the bedrooms and beds were large and comfortable. The house was clean, fully equipped with everything we needed, and renovated very tastefully. Detailed instructions are provided for all amenities. Unlike many vacation rentals, the home was not cluttered with owners' personal belongings and trinkets. The neighborhood was extremely quiet. Our kids especially enjoyed the pool (which is larger than it looks on the website photos), and the bedroom TVs (which the parents also enjoyed the kids having while the parents were enjoying evening cocktails by the outdoor fireplace). Daria was very responsive and great to deal with throughout. I highly recommend this rental.

Very relaxing and super clean

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights. And we all loved it. It was such a great getaway. Totally forgot about our daily routines. We didn't want to come back home. Very relaxing and super clean. We couldn't ask for more. And the beds were soooooo comfortable. We will definently be coming again. Can't wait!!!

Great Girls Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent a glorious week at the Racquet Club Retreat in late March/early April. We chose this property over all others because of the funky character, the gorgeous pool and the location in a trendy part of Palm Springs and we were not disappointed. Everything went extremely smoothly from the booking process (I was a bit nervous at first about them not accepting credit cards but everything went seamlessly), to the condition of the property (EXTREMELY clean), to the refund of the security deposit. The beds were very comfortable, the house well-stocked and the location convenient to downtown Palm Springs. The pool area was the real shining star of this house and had four comfortable lounge chairs and was well maintained. They even had some new patio furniture delivered while we were there. I would definitely book this property again and would recommend it to others.
