Our family had an excellent vacation in Rhode Island. this house was in the perfect location for everything that we wanted to do. At night we would walk right across the street and sit on the rocks next to the ocean and look up at the stars. It was truly a dream vacation and we didn't want to leave. Steven, the owner, gave us a lot of great suggestions of stuff to do and places to eat. We did do a lot of cooking at the house and used the grill a few times. The outdoor shower is great for when you come back from the beach all sandy. The neighbor, whose name is also Steve, was super friendly and he even gave our 2 year old a bag of matchbox cars when we were leaving. I would definitely recommend this vacation rental. Thanks again Steve, we had a great time.
Had an amazing time in Narraganset! I loved the property and you could hear the ocean waves at night. Ny handicapped brother had no problem getting around.
Strengths - great location, quiet street, walking distance to Scarborough beach. Close drive to Pt. Judith and Newport. Steve is an overall nice guy.
Weaknesses: Pictures online are considerably much nicer than the house actually is. House is musty smelling, wall-paper in upstairs bedrooms is peeling off and dirty. Hot water baseboard, refridgerator, dishwasher have a lot of rust. Holes in ceiling and cracks in wall paneling are often covered with tape. Light fixtures are ancient and many are uncovered showing light bulbs. Bathrooms are dirty, old, and lower tub faucet leaked hot water. Nothing really worked well and things that were fixed were fixed poorly.
We liked the proximity to everything and by the end of the week knew our way around the area pretty well. The cottage is on a quiet street next to a Catholic retreat and loved hearing the bells chime. We made several visits to have ice cream at Aunt Carries and also tried Iggy's fish platter and chowder.
The house is an older cottage. It provided plenty of room for our family to decompress at the end of the day. The washer/dryer is down in the basement and due to no railing, I was unable to utilize it and had to go to the local laundromat. We did encounter some problems with the stove and downstairs bathroom, but Steve was right on it and brought in a new stove and made repairs in the bathroom.
Steve is a wonderful home owner and provided us with lots of information on local places to go to. We would certainly consider staying in this area again if we would return to Rhode Island.
Our family stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved the fact that we were in close proximity to the beach and hiked the trail leading to it every morning. Steve, the owner, could not have been more accommodating or helpful.
We were looking for a low key, affordable way to spend 4th of July by the beach, with a bunch of friends, and this house hit the spot! We spent some time inside, but mostly, we enjoyed grilling in the back yard, eating in local seafood spots, and doing the quick walk to the gorgeous beach nearby to spend the day there.
The house is also a quick drive to a cute fishing village, and the ferry to Block Island. Steven, the owner, was friendly, helpful and responsive.
