The House

Dating from the 1850s, the house was completely renovated between 1992 and 1994. The large, open first floor includes a kitchen/dining room and living room. A wood pellet stove was recently installed in the kitchen, and a wood-burning stove keeps the living room cozy. We cut our own wood to maintain the cow pastures, and we thus encourage you to burn as much wood as you need (which also helps save electricity, which in France is 80% nuclear).

There are three bedrooms with beds for seven guests, including three double beds, and one single bed. If you are more than seven people, the sofa opens up and we can provide you with sheets and blankets.

Just next-door is our dairy farm. With our 45 milking farms, we provide milk for the famous Abbaye de Tamié cheese, made by the monks. Since 2009, we also make farm-fresh ice cream and sorbet. We'd love to show you around. Just ask! Fresh milk, cheese, eggs and honey are also available.

This is an independent house. You have complete access the main floor and top floor in the house, including the terrace in back. We do use the garage and office on the ground-level floor, which have a separate entrance and you will thus be not be disturbed. The yard in back is yours to use as well.

As we have our cows to care for at the farm just behind the house, we are never far away. The house is yours and we'll give you your space, but we are there to answer questions, make recommendations and help you get the most out of the region. And of course, if you want to explore the farm, we'll be glad to show you around.

As you're not far from a working farm, it's important to remember all that comes along with this. For example, the tractor will pass by as the hay is brought in during the summertime, and you might hear the the milkman pass by in the morning, on his way back to the monastery. We hope you don't mind. And of course, we would love to show you around and explain what's happening at the farm.

Cell phone service is weak at the house, but you can walk or drive up the mountain for better service. The internet works well and phone calls can be made this way.

For those of you with babies, we have a baby bed, high chair, changing table and bathtub available.

During French school vacation times, we prefer to accept only week-long stays. This is during Christmas, February vacation and throughout the summer (unless otherwise noted on the calendar). Thanks for understanding!

Dogs are welcome in the house, but please keep them off the couches and beds.

Absolutely no smoking in the house.

About owner/property manager

We are a French-American couple working on our farm here in the French Alps. We also have a little girl, born in March 2015. Although we can't travel as much as we'd like to or used to (dairy cows don't take milk vacations...), we have been loving hosting travelers from around the world!

owner/property manager purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why owner/property manager chose Plancherine

We bought this property in January 2014 as it is next to our farm and we thought it would be a great place to welcome guests. We have been loving it ever since!
