About Mike Palmer

Our custom-built cabin was completed in 2010. We love spending time here no matter what time of year! There is always something to do, whether it is a long walk on the lakebed in the fall, watching the snow fall in the winter, or BBQs on the porch in the summer. Always a great time in Detroit, with lasting memories of time with friends and family.

Mike Palmer purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Mike Palmer chose Willamette Valley Oregon

We have always loved vacationing at Detroit Lake and feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to build this beautiful cabin. We are happy to share! Besides the summer lake fun, it is close to Hoodoo Ski Resort and Mt. Bachelor, Salem, Sisters and Bend.

What makes this cabin unique

A favorite of the kids is to walk to the store and buy candy! The store is a short and safe walk from our cabin. Early-morning walks and late-night star gazing are also favorites. There is a peaceful energy year-round and a festive energy in summer!

All linens, towels, basic kitchen essentials and coffee filters are provided. We also stock the home with an initial supply of items such as toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap and dish soap. For most guests, the initial supply is enough however, we have found it helpful for some to bring extra. This is especially recommended for larger groups or guests staying for more than three nights. We do not stock any food items in the home so please bring all food you will need for your stay, including spices (if needed). There is also a picnic table and firepit

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the house, and it was perfect for our weekend on the lake. Will come again!

felt like home

  • 4 of 5

Over all the stay was very enjoyable. marina is a short walk from the house and so is the store

One thing that is not good about the house is the very steep gravel drive way

it makes it very difficult to unload and load your car or truck

There is plenty of off street parking for boat trailer and extra cars

Thanks for the use of the house

Good location

  • 3 of 5

Pros: great location to town and lake, big house with lots of space, clean, modern. Cons: bring your own soap & shampoo, only one washcloth in house, towels are rough and have a sour smell (bring own towels if this would bother you), DVD player works sporadically, no cable if you are into tv, upstairs tv does not work, driveway is very steep if you have mobility issues.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We like to provide the amenities our guests would expect at a lake cabin rental. We will certainly address the towel issue. Normally guests are pleased with the number and quality of towels we provide. The cabin is generously stocked with many of the basic supplies guests would need for their stay. If a guest requires personal hygiene items, they are available at the local grocery store, two blocks away. We make it clear in our listing that there is no TV service; we like to unplug when we visit our lake get-a-way!! There are movies and a functioning DVD player for guest entertainment. The cabin is positioned in the trees which necessitates a steeper driveway, however, vehicles with all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive can easily park near the door if there are mobility issues. Again, thank you for your feedback. We strive to provide an outstanding experience for our guests at our lake cabin. Mike

Fantastic stay

  • 4 of 5

Was a great stay in the cabin. Great features. A bit steep of a driveway, but good exercise to walk up. Could use a new DVD player. The one downstairs seemed to stop about halfway through the movie then wouldn't ever get past that point. All in all... was perfect!

Beautiful home right next to the lake

  • 4 of 5

The home is in great shape and provided comfort for 7 of us. We spent a lot of time on the deck; it was nice and cool under the trees. The proximity to the lake and marina was our favorite part! We didn't notice in the rental information it says to bring your own toilet paper and paper towels. Make sure you do this!!! There were no extras of either when we showed up. It also might be nice to just have these available as a part of the property for future guests.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and feedback. We love the lake and the location of the cabin the best! We also strive to meet the needs of all of our guests including providing ample supplies for the size of the party and the length of the stay. We're sorry that didn't happen during your recent stay but we hope to have the opportunity to take care of you in the future. Again, thank you for taking time to provide feedback and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Perfect Area

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for an extended weekend with 4 kids and 5 adults. The loft area and bunk bed setup was perfect as the kids felt like they had their own area to play in, and so did the grownups :). The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, and the furniture and decor was great. Everything was clean and in good working order. It's a short walk/drive to the lake. There's a great area out front for a fire-pit, and the deck overlooking the yard is a nice place to have dinner. The best thing about it was the convenience. There's a store within a block where you can go get everything you need, yet it still feels like you're out in the woods. The only thing I would say is a negative is that there's no garbage service, so there's no where to put the garbage out to, which might seem like not a big deal-unless you have a car full of kids and luggage etc., and have to try to figure out how to haul garbage bags from the whole weekend to an unknown garbage disposal site. Also, the beds were not super comfortable.

Other than that we had a relaxing weekend and I would absolutely go back again.
