The cabin was very basic but effective. My husband doesn't like to camp but even he was happy with the cabin as it had real beds with AC. Took window AC unit a while to cool the cabin off but once it did it was great. The AC fan did help drown out the campground and train noise for the most part ( The kids and I slept through it but my husband was awakened by a train during the night). Mitch was helpful and made sure we had a grill for dinner (our charcoal and food) and wood for a fire pit for the boys. The bathhouse was close by and clean as well. Not much for the kids to do on site but that did not matter to us as we had plans early the next day and only stayed one night.
The owner is really putting a lot of work into this property to improve it! The cabin was clean, came with bedding, a mini-fridge, and a small heater. The bathrooms were pretty nice, could use a little work, but it was nice having a private shower with plenty of hot water. The men have 3 private bathrooms and the women have 2. It was nice to have a laundry facility on site too! Plus you can use their towels for showers. Wade works at the campground and was very helpful! He had our firepit ready each night with kindling and firewood. He brought us ice for our cooler too. He even had his wife pick up a pizza for some of our neighbors in the cabin next door. We brought our coffee maker which worked out well, there is a gas station/convenience store down the road a couple miles but not much else. They are working on getting food in the bar there on the weekends which would be great because there isn't much nearby for food. The road is VERY steep coming into the campground from the west via Leeds but very pretty. Forewarning though there are train tracks nearby which can be loud. We enjoyed our rustic stay and plan on coming back next year for the Barbers Vintage Motorcycle Festival again : )
Vulcan sits atop Red Mountain and is the largest iron statue in the world! Climb the stairs or take the elevator for a 360 degree panoramic view of the whole city. Desoto Caverns is only 25 minutes away. Talladega is about 31 miles.
