Very clean, on a very busy road with noise and okay host
The house is very clean and roomy. The house defenitely had a smoker living there in the past so there is a lingering smell of stale smoke. The road the house is in is very busy and you can hear traffic throughout the night. I think the thing the host is missing is creating an experience for guests and seeking to anticipate needs. The host gave us the wrong code to get in. When we contacted him to get the correct code there was no apology just a text containing the code. To us that verged on rude. In addition simple things like soap or wash cloths for the shower would have been nice.
Great experience overall
We had a great time renting this house. The only minor hiccup was that we needed the updated code when checking in, but the manager returned our call within 15 minutes. The house was clean and comfortable and was just what we were looking for!
Great first experience
Everything went smooth for my first time using Home Away 🙂
Once we got in the house, we had a nice stay.
Pros: cozy older house with decent seating, lots of windows for natural lighting, basic kitchen supplies available, close to grocery store and local park, and small fenced-in backyard for the kids.
Cons: the house was double-booked so we had to get a hotel room the first night. Coming from Washington with my 10 month old daughter, this was a very stressful moment. Fortunately I got ahold of the owner right away and will receive approximately 50% of my payment back.
Would I stay in the house again? If I had the flexibility for a possible double-booking again, yes.
Mouse droppings & Broken Furniture
My family stayed here for 2 weeks. The house was very dirty, mouse droppings all over in the kitchen, under sinks, in drawers, with multiple mouse traps set. The front door did not latch properly, and the curtains barely covered the windows in the bedrooms-- definitely not private. Couch was completely broken, but pushed up against the wall so it looked okay upon arrival, just fell apart when you sat on it. Other furniture was very old, stained, and smelled poorly. Beds not comfortable and had polyester sheets without any mattress pad; frequently found ourselves laying directly on the mattress as the sheets would shrug off every single night. Yuck. Washer was rusty, and washer/ dryer in the basement which was covered in spiderwebs, had mousetraps all around, and trash laying about. The house is on the edge of the cute College Hill neighborhood, but also on the edge of a not great part of Wichita. "Fully stocked kitchen" was laughable, and Tim was not responsive. Zero communication prior to check-in, and the code I found online to access the house did not work. Would not stay here, or at any of Tim's properties again.
The pictures of the house were completly different from the reality
The house was not the house I rented. It was dirty, kitchen with few objects. I had to by a lot of things. The lights from the dinner room wasn't working.
