Overview

About the property

Quaint Bungalow Close To Beach, Safe Court, Private Yard & Mellow Vibe - 3BR

Hear the sea breeze in the cedar trees, take in the clean ocean air and enjoy all the treasures of the Outer Banks while visiting the Chill Beach & Surf Bungalow. You'll live the OBX lifestyle and feel like a local resident at our central location that is safe and private. Imagine the tranquility you will feel, like us, as you drift away into a mellow mood in the relaxing and cozy bungalow. Best after a beach day, surf or a tasty summer grill session.

The Space:

This beach house was built in 1982 as a 950 sqft beach bungalow that includes a second level loft. It sits on a private and decent cut of property in a safe cul de sac. The space is ideal for a small group of friends, a couple or a family. While 5 guests seem to be ideal we can accommodate up to 6 people.

Since we have had the Bungalow we have completed a lot of upgrades to the home that our guests love. The large outdoor shower with exposed galvanized pipe and oversized rain-shower head is soothing and feels amazing after the beach. When the weather is right for it, the french doors open up completely to the front deck which add an airy flow and the feel of and indoor-outdoor living space. The kitchen was themed with a Nautical look, open cabinets and contains most of the necessities for the group chefs.

Our favorite hang out area is the living room because it has an open set-up, vaulted ceilings and a BigAss Haiku Fan - which feels like a a hypnotic helicopter propeller.

Guest Access:

Guests have access to the entire home and property.

Interaction with Guests:

We give our guests space but am available when needed. We are available fastest via text and phone. If for some reason we are not in town, we have great local contacts to help!

Other things to note:

***We do kindly ask that all potential guests read the entire description before requesting to book***

We love our OBX bungalow, its a great house yet, like mosts homes it is not perfect and not for everyone. We respect that folks have different preferences and worldviews. If your looking for a unique place and local experience in a great beach town to relax, spend time with loved ones, chill out, cook and rest your head after the beach then the bungalow checks all the boxes.

"Book Now" to confirm your stay as availability for the Bungalow does go quick :)

The Neighborhood:

We are located in the "First Flight Village" just north of the Wright Brothers Memorial, in a peaceful court mostly occupied by year round local residents.

You can take a short 7 minute bike ride with a beach cruiser to First Street beach access, stores or a ride on the Sound path (best during sunset time). There is parking at the 1st St. beach access.

During the right times of the year, sea turtles do nest in the beach out front, you can find large shells (like Whelks) and the surfing in the area can be epic at times! The OBX is known as the east coast "Wave Magnet."

There is a Food Lion supermarket, pizza, Bagel-Coffe shop and more just off 1st St - about 1/3rd of a mile from the place

Getting Around:

Depending on your preferences there are many options to explore the OBX.

Bicycle (feel free to use ours or rentals nearby)

About Michael Hamilton

I am a active and curious person that loves to travel, enjoy surfing, live by the beach and learn. I think there is something magical about being in coastal regions so I like to spend a lot of my time there. I hope you do to!

With interest in coastal living and experience in real estate investing, my girlfriend, Maria - who helps host, and I decided to get ourselves into a project. We decided to renovate a bungalow in the Outer Banks of North Carolina to restore its beauty and charm. We knew we would spend time there with our family and friends, because we love the area, but did not realize how much our guests would like it or the impact it could have for them.

We have had so much fun and become very passionate about creating outstanding guest stays, unique experiences and making more of an impact. Since our first bungalow we have grown to cover both coasts and add more places to stay.

My favorite time of year in the OBX is the fall when the weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, crowds are down and the surfs up.

As a host: I am super easy going, I do travel a lot for work yet do have great people to help.

As a guest: Super laid back and low maintenance

Favorite Destinations: California, Baja Mexico, Guancaste Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, Long Island NY, Outer Banks NC, San Diego.

Things I could not live without:

1. Good friends and family relationships

2. A beach house, grill, fireplace and surfboards

Michael Hamilton purchased this house in 2015

Why Michael Hamilton chose Outer Banks

I purchased this property because it is located in one of the the best surf destinations on the east coast in the US. A dream of mine has been to have a beach bungalow.

The best places to travel and surf are those that offer a beach culture are a mix of consistent waves, inviting accommodation, welcoming and insightful locals, exciting culture, great eating options and heaps of activity during flat spells.

What makes this house unique

Epic surf town, Beach cottage feel, prime location to both sound and ocean, location near 1st St. Surf Break, private court setting w/ west facing view, lots of privacy in yard.

Comfortable and homey!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Labor Day weekend at the house during tropical storm Hermine and still had a great time. We didn't get to enjoy the cool backyard or the beach cruisers, but board games kept us busy, beds were comfortable and it was the perfect place to relax and get away for our family of 4. There's also a great manual for the house with that explains everything you could possibly need. Very thoughtful homeowners!

Beach Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

The bungalow worked great for us to stay at. It was clean and the AC worked well. Micheal is honest about the fact that it isn't anything fancy, but it serves the purpose of a safe, clean place to stay. It is at the end of a quiet cul de sac and only a few minutes to the beach!

The house was awesome.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our vacation in OBX. The house was clean, and well equipped with bikes, beach towels, 2 grills, and even a surf board! We really liked the outdoor shower after coming home from the beach, it made it easy to get the kids clean without a fuss.

The neighborhood was also perfect for a vacation with children--It was quiet, friendly, and within walking and biking distance to everything. Over all we loved our stay at the chill surf bungalow .

Nice House, Great Yard, Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great time at the Bungalow! Michael was an excellent host and very attentive to any possible needs we might have had. The weather was amazing so we spent almost all of our time on the beach or chilling in the backyard playing kanjam and grilling a variety of fine meats. Would recommend this spot for anyone looking to spend a lot of time outside. The house isn't massive (we had 5 large men in their mid-20's) but it was very comfortable with great amenities. We enjoyed every second and were able to crash hard at the end of each day. I would absolutely rent here again!

Perfect surf and beach getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great little getaway at the chill beach bungalow! Michael had great communication with us, so we knew just what to expect before we arrived and he also checked in on us to make sure we had anything we needed. Though he was away travelling so we did not get to meet him, he also provided us with a local contact in case we needed anything which we thought was great! Though we did not need anything else, it was great to know who to contact if we did. The instructions to find and get into the house were super easy to follow. The beach cottage was just as the pictures described. It is super clean. The other great thing is that it seemed like Michael really thought about all the little things from kitchen supplies, wifi, cable, electronics to candles to make you feel like you are at home. It was still a bit warm when we were there, so we were happy to find the house well air conditioned with plenty of fans. There is even a huge Haiku fan in the living room area! We had a great weekend enjoying the bbq in the back yard. There are even two grills for your preference, gas or charcoal with a great picnic table so everyone can enjoy a meal in the yard together. It was also nice to relax in the hammock. We were walking distance to the beach and sound as well as a putt putt course and grocery store. There is also a nice surf spot at the end of first street. All the other major attractions like the Wright Brothers memorial were a short drive. I can't wait to come back to the Outer Banks and stay in the chill bungalow again!
