If you're looking for a location that's incredibly close to Boston and right in the heart of Cambridge, this is it! With 5 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, this charming, colonial New England house can accommodate you and your family [or friends] so you can enjoy your vacation together without having to book several hotel rooms. If you have young kids, we have a high chair and a pack-n-play and can supply other baby items if needed. The interior, while updated and modernized with all new appliances and new bathroom fixtures, features charming woodwork from the 1800's.
As for location - it just can't be beat. We would say there is no better spot to be in Cambridge - which is why we bought this house! It is right in the middle of Harvard and MIT, both walkable within 10 minutes of either direction. 3 blocks away is Central Square with lots of restaurants and the subway. The Central Square subway is a 10 minute ride into the heart of Boston. SO EASY. Walk 10 minutes in the other direction and you'll be in Harvard Square. Walk 10 minutes in another direction and you'll be along the Charles River.
Once you arrive to this house, you really won't even need a car. If you do have a car, we have one garage space on the property. If you do take a cab into Boston, it's about a mile away.
**Please note - if you are looking for a space and it's not listed in the weeks shown available, please email me and it might be available to you depending on schedule. We try to update the calendar, but things change quickly, so do enquire! Thanks!
My family and I are avid travel enthusiasts and have often rented other people's homes, which has made it so much more enjoyable to see the area as a family. When you have kids or are traveling with parents, sometimes it's easier to be in a house than a hotel, and we hope our home will enable you to do the same, all while enjoying the best this spectacular city and region has to offer.
The Owner purchased this house in 2013
We have lived in Cambridge for 13 years and have lived in various parts of the city. We chose this location because of its amazing walkability and proximity to the Charles River and quick access to Boston. There is so much to do, and we seldom use a car. It's very rare to find a single family detached house in this urban-yet-leafy-and-quiet part of Cambridge.
You'll have the amazing opportunity to stay in a single family house in the middle of the city, yet sleep with the windows open and hear nothing but the birds. We are still amazed at how quiet it is, but 5 minutes walk and you're and you'll be at some incredible restaurants, bars, WholeFoods, subway, etc. The spot can't be beat. OR, if you just want to stay in [or out!], we have a patio/table that seats 10.
Great location. We used this for a three-day, residential meeting for a small group, and it worked very well. Great to be able to cook some of our own meals. Owners were very obliging. The natural light is limited so we would have liked more lighting options and some updated furniture in the living room.
Ten Western (California, Colorado, Arizona) family members wanted to be together for an August wedding in Boston. This home provided the right number of bedrooms (5), usable family space (good kitchen, adequate living room, and dining room that would accommodate all), and a very convenient location--a short walk to the "T," to many restaurants, and to one truly great ice creamery (Toscannini's). The house was clean, and the neighborhood was safe and fairly quiet, considering it is on an important street. Because the weather was hot, we all used our room air-conditioners, which made rooms comfortable AND dimmed any street noise. Garage, which would accommodate a small SUV, is another plus in this hard-to-park neighborhood. The house made possible a wonderful family reunion. We feel lucky to have found and been able to rent it.
Geezer alert: Five of our number are senior citizens. The oldest couple had the first-floor bedroom, attached conveniently to a half-bath. One full bath is next to the kitchen on the first floor. The second full bathroom is on the second floor--with the four other bedrooms. The younger occupants of the second-floor bedrooms were willing to traipse downstairs to use the bath on the first floor. The stairs are quite steep, the handrail stops short of the bottom step, and there are also some odd floor shifts in the second-floor hallway, potentially dangerous to the less sure-footed. The arrangement of rooms on the second floor is "charmingly weird," in the words of the youngest family member--a stairway that seems to go nowhere, an outside window looking into the house. In the rather eerie basement are a good washer and dryer.
Reed, the property manager, was very cooperative in our dealings with him.
Cute older home with 5 bedrooms worked well for a group of 5 adults. Nice neighborhood location near transit and only a mile from Harvard. Nice responsive owners. Thanks for a good stay!
Our stay in Boston was for a group of 10 ranging in age from 10 to 64 and this house was perfect! Lots of space for everyone to sleep, plenty of bathroom space for getting ready, and location was excellent (only 2 blocks to redline subway)! We would definitely recommend this property!
15 minute walk to Harvard Square, 5 minute walk to Central Square. Tons of things to do from bike riding to museums within walking distance from this property. Boston is just minutes away!

In general, we do not accept pets, but occasionally we may accept a group with a small, quiet dog. Pet-acceptance is individually determined. A $300 pet-deposit fee is required and refunded, pending damages/extra clean up [such as ruined furniture, extra pet hair/waste cleanup needed inside or dog poop found in yard].
