Tahoe Valley Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-4)

A cozy theme cabin with quality log-cabin style furnishings located on a private wooded lot with direct access to USFS land, it really feels like living in the mountains! Hike out the back less than 2 minutes to incredible views of the lake and Mt Tallac.

We nicknamed the cabin 'The Treehouse' because of it's wooded surroundings and comfy feel. It is two stories with the loft and main bedroom upstairs. The cabin is located at the end of a dead-end street surrounded by forest. Enjoy the hot tub in the middle of a snowstorm or at the end of a long summer hike. My family and friends have spent many fun-filled weeks at the cabin.

In the summer you can bike to Pope Beach and Camp Richardson. In the winter you can hike up behind the cabin and ski or snowboard down Twin Peaks for a little backcountry experience. We love it!

About Heather

I love all the outdoor activities Tahoe has to offer and a few it doesn't: my husband and I travel the world to feed our kiteboarding addiction and to immerse ourselves in a variety of cultures.

Heather purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Heather chose South Lake Tahoe

I moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1999 with the intention of staying one winter and never left. Tahoe is an amazing place! As a lover of the outdoors, it's the most incredible place to live.

Being from Oregon, my family bought a vacation home on the same street as my cabin in 1983. We vacationed in Tahoe every summer and some winters while I was growing up. I have such fond memories of all of us together laughing and playing in this beautiful place. The 'hill' behind my cabin used to be our playground in the 80's. My parents still own their vacation home just one block away.

What makes this cabin unique

Since the cabin used to be my primary residence and I love to cook, the kitchen is well stocked with quality pots and pans, and utensils. There's a PS3 that allows for blu-ray DVD watching and streaming Netflix. I love to listen to music and hang out with friends and family who come to visit. In the summer we BBQ on the deck and eat outside on the picnic table. In the winter, we enjoy evening hot tubs with cocktails. We almost always take advantage of the short hike straight up behind the property for views of the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time! Yall's place is perfect. Since I've gotten back I've told just about everyone I know they need to go to yall's place. It's cozy, homey, intimate, secluded but close to town, and the short hike up the back hill is really amazing at the top. We took a bottle of wine up there and just hung out for a while taking in the view. I don't think we could have found a better place.

Cute cabin, great location

  • 5 of 5

Heather's cabin was just the right size and set up for our family. The cabin was clean and well stocked with everything we needed, and more. The hot tub was perfect for the cold nights and the hiking trail right out the back door was amazing - great views of the lake. Heather is a responsive and attentive host and we are already talking about booking our next Tahoe escape!

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay over labor day weekend. Went paddle boarding, hiked Emerald Bay, and made full use of the grill and hot tub. There were quite a number of yellow jackets this time of year - be sure to bring bug spray!

Owner's Response: Interestingly, our friends who have lived in Tahoe for 40 plus years say this year is the yellow-jackets (we call them meat bees because they love anything meat) are the worst they have ever been. I even got stung! I have never been stung by them until this year and have been in Tahoe for 18 years. Some say that means a big winter. We'll see! Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Nice cabin =)

  • 4 of 5

Great location in South Lake Tahoe, cabin had everything we needed, and was clean. Awesome views from the short hike up the trail behind the cabin!

As others have mentioned, there should be curtains installed on the bottom floor for privacy. The only negative to mention is that the main room bed is for some reason unusually high off the ground and mattress is too soft so it was really uncomfortable to sleep in.

Overall this is a nice place to stay for comparable prices.

Owner's Response: That is the first complaint of the mattress being too soft that we have had. The upstairs bed is unusually high and awkward to get into for some people. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

Nice location and hot tub, place itself could use improvements

  • 3 of 5

PROS: Location, hot tub (temp can be too hot sometimes), quiet neighborhood.

CONS: Only bathroom located on bottom floor - with bedrooms upstairs, was very inconvenient to have to go downstairs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. The stairs are VERY narrow and steep going up to the bedrooms - if you're taller than 6 feet you will have trouble. Cabin could use some updating - outdoor furniture very old and chipped, kitchen items were old and chipped. BBQ was out of propane.

Overall, I would probably stay here again for the hot tub and location (close to Camp Richardson, biking trails, etc.) but the cabin could def use some updating.

Owner's Response: The stairs are narrow and steep as stated in other reviews. The cabin was built in 1952 and will have some funkiness to it for that reason. It would have been nice to know the propane was out so we could have remedied that during your stay. Thank you for the feedback.

Cute and Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this lovely cabin for a weekend getaway in Tahoe. The big deck and BBQ is perfect for a summer dinner outside and of course relaxing in the hot tub in the evening. This is the perfect cabin for two or a small family. Very peaceful and relaxing surroundings as well, while only a short drive to the grocery store, which was very convienent for us. Not too far of a drive to the lake and casinos either. Thank you! We definitely enjoyed our stay.

Quiet cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I got to stay at this cabin for a full week and loved every minute of it. For our trip and plans, this cabin was better than we could have expected. At the end of a road and located off the road, only one other house that is really in view, but still far enough away to be peaceful. Had 3 people which seemed to work just fine. A fourth and it might have started to feel a little small, but would have still been fine for the week.

The location is about 5 miles from stateline, so if you plan on being in that area more often then not, you will need a car to get to/from there. There is a big grocery store about a mile down the road and an awesome pizza place just around the corner. For our trip we were planning on cycling around Lake Tahoe area so the location worked out very well for us. Access to multiple bike paths, bike routes and a nice walking trail with easy access behind the cabin that leads up to an amazing view looking over all of Lake Tahoe.

Inside the cabin was very nice and well kept. Kitchen had everything we needed for our cooking. Dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer were another nice addition to have.

Thanks to Heather for allowing us to stay here. We would seriously consider this cabin again for a future trip in the area.
