This cute loft is 1 of 8 loft style suites located in a 17th. century beautifully renovated mansion on the charming square "Plaza Fernández de Madrid" in the magical "Centro Histórico" (Old City or Walled City) of Cartagena de Indias. My family has owned this delightful mansion for 45 years. In this apt. the sleeping loft features a queen-size bed and a window overlooking quaint neighboring rooftops .There is a full-size futon in the living room area; bathroom; Mini-Fridge, free Wi-Fi Internet, Cable TV, and MiniSplit AC. There is also a wet bar where you can wash all the delicious tropical fruit found in Cartagena. If you wish to dine in you may do so on the dining table and high stools.Microwave/coffeemaker/hairdryer provided upon request.Extra linens, towels ,Beach towels are also provided upon request.Complimentary breakfast during your stay at Cafe de Artistas inside the property. We have a great friendly staff that can help you with what ever you need. As to respect your privacy complimentary light housekeeping is also available upon request.
The loft is located on the second floor of this wonderful open air mansion. Once outside the loft you are greeted by the daytime or night time sky and the inner courtyard on the first floor .There is an airy feeling through out the property.. All guests are welcome to use the social living room with comfortable sitting and a balcony where you can delight yourself with the gorgeous view of the tree filled square. Truly, this is one of the best locations in the Old/Walled city by far! This property is just steps away to restaurants, bars, pizzerias, supermarkets, banks, and nearly all the historic sites. Public transit a few blocks outside the walled city although taxis abound at very reasonable fares.
The late Gabriel Garcia Marquez could not have found any other city as full of magic and charm as Cartagena de Indias.
Some of the most memorable passages of his novel "Love in the Time of Cholera" take place in the deserted "Parque de los Evangelios ", or "Plaza Fernandez de Madrid", as it is known today, in honor of an important doctor and historical figure by the name of Jose Fernandez de Madrid.
It was in this square that the starry-eyed Florentino Ariza sat with a book of poetry under an almond tree hoping to catch a glimpe of his beloved Fermina Daza who lived with her over-bearing father in the house across the street. In reality this house, one of the oldest in the Old City, is known as Casa de Don Benito, which today is a beautifully restored private residence located next to the L'Aliance Francesa. Interestingly enough, there is a knocker in the shape of a parrot on the front door - a reference no doubt to the quirky ominous opening sequence of the novel "Love in the Time of Cholera"...
I live in New York City but I was born in Colombia .
My family has owned this amazing property in Cartagena for 45 years .
The loft is in Cartagena,Colombia listed as one of the thousand places you should see before you die.
Sonia's place was incredible. I have stayed in Cartagena four times in the past year and have enjoyed all of them, and Sonia's is the best location of them all. The space is wonderful and charming and surrounded by great restaurants and bars and allows for easy access to all of the great attractions in Cartagena.
This loft was just perfect for us as we used it as our home base to explore the city. It is convenient to everything in the walled city and has a lively square just outside. The restaurant downstairs has a few good options for breakfast and the price of those was included in our room rental. Housekeeping was there nearly every day to tidy the room and straighten up. Sonia was very responsive when we encountered a few difficulties during our stay. The one thing I would note is if you are expecting a very hot shower, you will be disappointed. Most water in Cartagena is just above lukewarm. To get a hot shower requires running the tap for a very long time, which felt very very wasteful. So we simply didn't do it. Other than that, this efficiency loft was just the perfect place to come back to after a day of exploration. If you can speak Spanish, that is a big plus, but you can get by with a lots of hand gestures and Google translate on your phone! Highly recommend!
