About Bret Randolph

I grew up in northern Virginia in the United States. I am a business owner there and sought out Long Island Bahamas as a retreat from the hectic life in the states.

Bret Randolph purchased this house in 2014

Why Bret Randolph chose Bahamas

I enjoyed my visits to Long Island Bahamas so much that I decided to purchase a home with the idea becoming totally immersed in the Carribean dream of beautiful beaches and friendly people. When I first visited Pinders Villa and saw the breathtaking views from the deck I knew this was the place for me to realize that dream.

What makes this house unique

I really love this home because of its private location but central location to all the important areas of the island. The stunning view from the 1600 sq. ft deck had me at hello. I love sitting out there watching the sunrise over the Atlantic in the morning and listening to the waves at the end of the day.

A wonderful week!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Long Island. We enjoyed this location and the rest of the island so much last year we decided to come back!

The house was in great shape, everything worked and there was even an extra kayak this year for a total of 4. Everything worked and we once again really enjoyed the beach gazebo and the huge deck with the beatiful view of Guana Cay and the harbor/cove below. From the beach we saw multiple sea turtles and rays and there were many more fish to be seen while snorkeling especially toward the south side of the cove.

This house feels and is very secluded-you can't see another house and you are far enough off the main road that you get no road noise. if you are from an urban/suburban area the quiet (other than the sounds of the wind and sea) is wonderful and relaxing. We only saw one other group on our beach the entire week we were there.

The Caretaker was accessible and right on time making check in pretty easy. We had 4 great days of weather followed by a little rain and a lot of wind, but plenty of sun. You are well located to get to Seaside at Jerry Wells, Max Conch Bar, the new Tiny's just past Salt Pond, the BEST grocery store (Hillside Supply in Salt Pond) and Chez Pierre's. We tend to eat out quite a bit but the kitchen worked great for every breakfast and a few lunches.

The road to the house is the typical non-paved Bahamian road. We had a Jeep Patriot (more car than SUV) and it seemed to handle it fine. The caretaker drives a normal sedan and she seems to have no trouble. I've decided a real Jeep Wrangler would be nice just because all the best places and beaches to explore are down the same sorts of roads.

It was a great trip and we hope to be back soon. This house is also a fantastic value for what you get compared to other VRBO's we've done on Exuma.

A new favorite

  • 5 of 5

We have recently been trying to get two Bahamas out-island trips in per year from our Florida home in our single engine airplane. One trip is to an island we have never previously stayed; the other is to return to one of our favorites. Despite having cleared customers at Stella Maris airport a few times before, this was our first stay on Long Island. This property is now in the top 2 of our favorites list. We will definitely be back, providing the house is available.

Our week-long stay began with very high winds, but we had 3 perfect, calm days later in the week to fully enjoy the bay and Guana Cay. We used the first few days to explore the rest of Long Island, visiting multiple fascinating caves, blue holes, and leeward coast beaches. Take some good hiking shoes if you like to explore. Without a doubt, you need a vehicle to stay at this house. We rented a Jeep Liberty, but anything with decent clearance with do. You won't make it up the driveway in anything too low to the ground.

There were 4 single kayaks (but only 3 paddles?) to use. Life jackets and snorkeling equipment for 4 are in the 3rd bedroom closet. Conch, yellow and mutton snapper, trigger fish, rays, turtles, sharks and more can all be found in the bay. Lobster are in there, but seemed to be in the more challenging waters, where the currents are strong and the rocks are jagged. Too much for my limited swimming ability. I was targeting mutton snapper using only frozen squid from Hillside Grocery and had some good results. Cast into the white sandy holes for the big ones.

Carissa is an awesome caretaker. She had a 5-gallon water at the house to get us started, but we had picked up a couple gallons on the drive in from Deadman's Cay airport. The kitchen is well-equipped and laundry facilities are good. The deck has useful clotheslines and the view from it is fantastic. The beds are firm but comfortable. If I had to list a criticism, I would suggest more comfortable living room furniture, but this certainly would not prevent us from booking again.

Paradise found

  • 5 of 5

We loved this rental because the house was very clean, comfortable and equipped with everything needed to prepare meals and drinks. The view from the deck is of a vast green area sloping down to the beach, where kayaks await. We saw rays and turtles and swam to the island one day.

We have rented numerous houses in other Out Islands for years and this is our favourite place so far🌴

Staying at Pinders is unique

  • 4 of 5

A great home to spend your vacation. The view of Guana Cay is awesome. There is food to be had in the water however keep your eye out for the sharks that sometimes roam the water. The only visitors we had were the many goats that roam the land. Pinders has everything you need to enjoy your stay without bringing it with you. Beach towels, gas grill in great shape, Kayaks, a wonderful caretaker, the private road down to the beach were all added bonuses for your stay at Pinders.

Stay at Pinders Paradise June 22 to July 7 2016

  • 5 of 5

Sue and I stayed at your nice Long Island property recently for a very enjoyable vacation. Other reviews have many particulars, but we especially enjoyed the beautiful private setting and a nice house with a great outdoor covered deck. The east facing site is open to the cooling winds, not to mention the preventing bugs. It was summer, but we did not use the AC; just opened the windows. Almost every day we spent time on the Little Harbor beach below the house. This beach gets very little use by others. Even though the house is off by itself, grocery stores and gas are not far away. We spent several days wandering the island. Around this house there is little evidence of the hurricane damage. Further south there is some more damage, but the island is recovering. This was definitely our type of a quiet vacation setting. Thanks, Chuck

A Truly Unique Property makes for an Amazing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second Bahamas Trip for my wife and 16 year old daughter, and it was the second time we used VRBO/Homeaway to find a property. We had a great vacation on Long Island! A very laid back friendly place! The pictures do not do the view justice (and neither did the ones I took!). The first time you drive up and see the view from the big deck your jaw will drop-the bay there (Lower Harbor is its name) is a multicolored gem of Turquoise and green. As the day goes from morning to evening, the bay will shimmer and the shades will change in a subtle way depending on the strength of the sunlight. Sitting on the deck, either in the sun or under the roof is mesmerizing and we spent a part of each day doing just this. The property's best feature in our mind is the private road/path to the beach and large sized gazebo right on the beach. We could load up our SUV with the cooler, snacks, towels and snorkels and haul it all down in the morning and back in the evening. The Gazebo gave us a nice place to hang out when we needed a break from the sun or water and at times we would just walk down. Kayaks, life jackets, coolers, beach chairs and masks/snorkel are all provided. The house was well kept and recently renovated. The bedrooms are comfortable and the kitchen has newer appliances and they all worked well. Coffee maker, vita-mix juicer, bean grinder, toaster, etc.-everything you would want in a kitchen is there. If you are on a budget, cooking in is a definite option in this kitchen. There is also a well kept weber gas grill as well as a Weber kettle grill. You use cistern water for bathing and gray water needs and use bottled water for drinking and cooking-on par with other Bahamian properties. The electric was reliable but use the provided surge protectors-Bahamas Electric is still surge prone. Our cell phone worked well (signal booster in the house) and the wifi was fast- We did not use the really very nice TV much, but it is there. The road to the property is about 3/4 mile- the lower harbor road sign is missing due to the storm-like almost all roads off Queens Highway it is dirt/rock. A car can do it fine but we were glad to have an SUV. Likewise the private road to the gazebo includes a pretty good hill-easily walk-able or drivable in our SUV. The owner and Caretaker were VERY RESPONSIVE! We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the property and the island-and it was a great value!
