Overview

About the property

Church, turned guest house, offers peace and quiet in a remarkable setting

Wonderful, spacious church, built in 1845 in the tranquil village of Waterford. The building has been restored inside and out, without changing the original character. The balcony, where the Sunday school was held, has one queen size bed, and one single bed.The maine hall, once occupied by pews, is now one big open space with vaulted ceilings, and several sitting areas. The downstairs platform where the organ once stood, has two twin beds. In one corner of the hall is a kitchenette, suitable for breakfast and light meals. There is a small, but functional bathroom, with shower, toilet and sink. The church has one acre of land, bordering the town brook. Nearby swimming ar Keoka Lake town beach, fishing and hiking. This property pairs well with the property next door, Homeaway 130393, (VRBO 307190.)The properties share a driveway, and the two would make an ideal rental for larger parties or special occasions.

Lovely, spacious and entirely unique property in the heart of the lakes region.

My family and I loved this unique property. Plenty of space to spread out and run around, plus loads of old New England charm. The hostess was easy to communicate with and met us at the property to make sure we settled in well. Beautiful lake beaches were a five to ten minute drive from the property. Staying in an old church may not be for everyone, but it was certainly for us!

The pictures tell the entire story of this unique place.

Our family enjoyed the experience of this church. There is no air conditioning, but the evenings cooled off for great sleeping. The owner was always quick to return my emails with my questions.

Neat experience to stay in church

  • 5 of 5

My mother-in-law dreams of retiring in an small/old church coverted into a house. That will likely not happen, but this was the next best thing. What a unique experience. What a great place for family/friends to gather with out feeling cramped (as can be the case when having a reunion in our home). Hope to come back soon.

An old church, nicely converted into a dwelling

  • 5 of 5

The property is a disused Wesleyan church which the owner has restored and fixed up as a place to stay. The inside is one large room, with a balcony that serves as a bedroom area. There is another area in a corner of the room with two twin beds. In another corner there is a small, furnished kitchen, and around the edges of the room there are clusters of furniture. It is all comfortable and pleasant. There are woods in the back, and only one other house is visible from the building.

The owner was very helpful, and we had everything we expected. In an area of high prices, it was a bargain and a good solution for us.

Cute & Quaint

  • 5 of 5

Unfortunately we only stayed for one night and did not have as much time as I would have liked to stay to enjoy this adorable church, but what little time we spent there was wonderful. The church is such an interesting place to stay. The bathroom is small (shower only) but clean and fully functioning, and the church was very warm even with the chilly temperatures outside. Its a little off the beaten path (although I think most interesting places in Maine are off the beaten path) but Kerstin was very helpful and accommodating. I truly wish we could have stayed longer. Also the church is a short drive or walking distance to this beautiful lake that we stopped by the next morning to just enjoy the quiet. I would definitely here stay again.

We really enjoyed the staying at such an unusual place like the Wesleyan Church. We have family in the area and EVERYONE wanted to stop by to see it. The owner kept the spirit of the building and some artifacts of the church and thoughtfully included a copy of the church minutes from earlier times for interest. Everything one could need was provided; a small kitchen and bathroom with clean shower. The church was warm in the morning and comfortable all night long and quiet. We especially loved the ping pong table. The owner was so thoughtful and considerate. I expect to stay there again.
